The translation on this French cookery show is hilarious...one moment surreal, the next vaguely pornographic and always breathless, as if it's being translated live. Sometimes, they just make words up!





How sad that the crab is not even dead and already the cook is disremembering it.

thought this bit from the crystal maze was already insane but the last 3 seconds of a I presume one of the previous losers from the team in close up adn locked in her crytal maze cell is amazingly creepy

i take back my web based translator theory, on the basis of the well spotted beckett and the fact that they refer to the chicken as a 'kuku', swahili for chicken.

I'm glad you enjoyed this, Graham. From what I can deduce, there appear to be several dozen episodes of the programme in existence. Terrifying. After a while, of course, the dialogue starts sounding normal. But the first time you hear it, man, it's like being hit in the face by a penpal from Rouen.

On some of the shows there are female chefs and market traders; the same two blokes do the translation, but in HIGH VOICES. Amazing.

My favourite bit is still "Citric juice, olive oil, and... citric juice." And, of course, "I believe it is a little bit crazy, isn't it", which has started to become my stock response to pretty much everything, these days.
