He, ha, ha, y'see, he sounds like Keith Richards....
Is that another frikkin' 'Pirates of the Carribean' movie? Do you see what happens, critics, when you over-praise a movie? You get sequels is what happens!

We're just lucky we didn't get a follow-up to 'Lost in Translation', is all I can say.

Just out of curiosity, have you heard Mark Kermode's reviews of the 'Pirates' films? They're almost entertaining enough to justify the existence of the films to me. Almost.

Nothing to do with critics. Pirates 2 took over a billion dollars at the box office.

Mind you, they also greenlit the second and third movies at the same time and shot them back to back - number two doesn't actually have an ending, it just leads into the third one.

Watched Pirates 2. Left cinema almost apoplectic. Only half the film in 3 hours? I paid full price for that piece of shit!

I liked Lost in Translation. So there.

Apropos of nothing except the word 'translation' I suddenly realised that you must see these clips of a French--translated-into-English show 'Le Breton Gourmand' from Wine TV, as posted by LJ blogger Rhodri. In world of must-see clips, they are particularly must-seeish.

If you don't laugh joyously and rewatch and laugh again, I will give you six pounds.

Excellent, I'm glad it hit the spot. If you do post with a credit, please mention Rhodri (http://rhodri.livejournal.com) not me - it's him Sky+ing it, finding the best bits and posting them on YouTube.

Celeriac! Celeriac!

I never knew that female crabs are bigger. Time to get out the microscope and take a few samples. Also, I've tried to make a sauce with citric juice, olive oil and citric juice, and it bloody well came out too citric-juicy. Nearly ruined my posh dinner party that. If it wasn't for my fascinating slideshow on the relative sizes of crustacean genders, I'd be a social outcast.

Very funny. Keep the six pounds. Spend it on crabs.

The other clip is even better. Sample dialogue:

A: I want to see you sweat.
B: It's not an inferno, but a paradise here.
A: Leave the lid like this, and open the oven door.
B: It's very good that I have muscles.
A: A piece of butter.
B: [intelligible] here in Brittany.
A: Exactly. How rough.
B: How rough, nice boy.
A: Frankly said, not bad.

Graham,

Thank f@£K. I thought I was the only one in the Western Hemisphere who hated Lost in Translation - self-absorbed, naval-gasing grammer school girl's wet dream... Thanks for the dose of good clean lino-sense. Don't normally post but I was beginning to feel that I was the only one...

I hated it so much, I actually threw something at the screen (I was at home).

Gosh, I'm so lonely except for these people I can immediately call up and go karaoke-singing with and maybe I'll get a chance to slag off my more talented ex-husband during the film and ha, ha, Bill Murray's so funny let's just keep the camera rolling and he whispers something in her ear but we never find out what it is because it's mysterious and also because I don't really know what he might say and Evelyn Waugh is a MAN, dummy (even though no-one claims otherwise) and most of all, above all, aren't Japanese people hilarious when they try to be like real people! They can't pronounce their 'R's! They try to sing Sex Pistols songs! They're just so silly! Except when they're doing traditional things, of course, when we must all be very silent and respectful.

I preferred Sofia Coppola as an actress.
