The week's funography 'highlights'

'Cutting Edge' is on the slide after all! The next one is about eliminating swearing in schools. What is this apparently commendable enterprise called? 'Watch Your F-ing Language'!

Fuck you, Cutting Edge!

Also, 'Virgin School' is about a man who is a middle-aged virgin who has to go to Amsterdam to get cured and he...oh, anyway--Fuck you, people who made 'Virgin School'!

Also, 'Embarrassing Illnesses' begins this week. "The first patients... include Victoria, whose nipples are inverted, and Nicky, who is flatulent."

The limbo stick is LYING ON THE FLOOR!

(I just saw the picture I stole for this post on a good monitor. Could they possibly be trying to tell me that the image is copyrighted?)

The lowest program I came across recently was "The world's most offensive jokes". Done as if it were a study of offensive jokes, but was just an excuse to tell the offensive jokes on tv.

Will and Grace had this format. Somebody thought, 'Hey, I've got lots of offensive and stereotypical gay jokes. If I get gay people to tell them, nobody will mind!'

Not long before we get a tsunami survivor sitcom like 'Not drowning, but waving'. Or 'Whoops 9/11'. Or 'Afghanistan Nights'.

The limbo stick has been buried. In shit.

From a Daily mail report on the Virgin School 'controversy':

*The Virgin School, as it has been titled, is part of a series of programmes about virginity lined up for next year, which will also look at the different ways in which people lose their virginity.

A series of programmes about masturbation is also being lined up for next year.*

You couldn't make it up. Oh no, wait. They have.

"Different ways" to lose virginity?

The only one I know is having sex.

What are the others?

Oh man. ITV last night, "Teen Boob Jobs: Too Much Too Young."

Apparently this was a "New series, asking whether today's young people are in danger of growing up too fast... [including] a 16-year-old who is having the operation two years before the suggested age for doing so - paid for by her parents as a birthday present - and a 14-year-old who wants the operation because she likes the look of fake busts."

Definitely not cynically titled piece of TV pollution aimed at people who want to gawp at topless teenagers then. Almost Kiddystare territory.

Ooh, funography is a good word for this sort of thing. I have BBC America which occasionally airs a "Hot Docs" program with such gems as:

My Mums Used To Be Men
My Husband is Gay
Sleeping With Teacher
My 100,000 Lovers
Male, 33, Seeks Puberty
Coked Up Britain -- this one had memorably nasty scenes in which a man's nose started bleeding uncontrollably and he was found collapsed on the floor as his family fretted around him, but naturally the cameras kept rolling.
