A career ending in front of your eyes.
Wow. Some comedians out Carlos Mencia as a joke-nicker.

Mencia immediately got Rogan banned from that comedy club and tried to sabatoge his creative management. You can read about it at Joe Rogan's blog -

Yep, I was just about to link that. It's shocking really, and quite amazing how someone can so blatantly steal someone else's hard work. Multiple someone elses, no less!

It's shameful really. I have so little respect for people who steal other comedians' jokes and routines. Same with musicians who liberally borrow from others without crediting them.

A story of medium length, same topic:

When I heard Kelly Osbourne's hit song, "One Word" a year or so ago, I couldn't believe my ears. It was a total, blatant ripoff of Visage's "Fade To Grey" and was unlike any of her previous music. I immediately emailed Billy Currie (formerly of Visage and Ultravox) to alert him to it, in case he hadn't been told or hadn't heard it for himself on the radio or hadn't seen her on Top of the Pops performing HIS song as her very own. I mean jeez, how infuriating is that? She and Linda "Ripoff" Perry had a #1 hit with that song and didn't bother to credit him or the other songwriters. Long story short, they wound up settling and I believe Linda Perry wound up having to pay him, Midge Ure and the others for it. I'm just a bit sad that it wasn't made more public because so many misinformed people are probably still under the impression that Linda Perry (who has a history of this, really. Compare 4 Non Blondes "What's Up" and Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" for instance!) wrote a really great song for Kelly Osbourne, all on her own, that it was just so unique, etc.

The moral of the story? Out those damned ripoff artists immediately! There's precious few things in this world that get me as worked up as theft of one's art and I'm so glad they've exposed him for what he is.

WOW! that's a comment.

Thanks, man. I have experience of it myself in the form of scumbag advertising agencies lifting whole sketches from my show 'Big Train' for their own shitty, unfunny, evil ends.

Not that I'm bitter about it.

Oh no, that's terrible. Maybe it's just the litigious American in me coming out but I hope you sued the pants off of them for that! Seriously, that's just so wrong.

Nah, they love when you do that because it puts extra focus on the product and their company. They see it as an 'everybody wins' situation because the show they've ripped off gets extra publicity too. But I don't want to play in their garden so i'd rather just call them a bunch of talentless scumbags who will receive a healthy slap if I ever have the luck to run into them in person.

You know, that's an excellent point. A good slap is probably so much more satisfying anyway. Don't forget, if you ever get the opportunity, please have a friend or two along to take pictures and/or video for us so we can point and laugh at the recipient(s) from afar. ;)

It's just news to me that Mencia was considered a comedian. Seriously!

Mencia stealing a Cosby joke.

It's the most egregious example I've seen of Mencia's joke stealing. Stealing from less famous comedians is despicable and slimy, but stealing from Cosby is just plain stupid.

Wow, that's bold. Perhaps since it's out in the open that everyone's on to him and he has a new season of Mind of Mencia starting on Comedy Central which undoubtedly will pay him lots of undeserved cash, just maybe he figures he has nothing else to lose? After all he's making his money on the sweat of other, better comedians.

What a life, huh?

And yet Joe Pasquale still gets away with it.

It's a shame no-one did the same with that comedic magpie Denis Leary.

Bill Hicks was once asked why he gave up smoking and he replied "To see if Dennis Leary would."

Thanks for this. Mencia is one of the more scarring aspects of visiting America. He's all over comedy central like a rash. Real parallels here with Stuart Lee's Joe Pasquale bit.
