Schindler? That twat.
I love this....today's Independent, from the article Chirac honours the village that saved Jews from Nazis.

"It is estimated that 3,000 Jews were saved by the people of
Chambon-sur-Lignon, compared to the 1,200 rescued by Oskar Schindler,
the Austrian businessman celebrated in the 1993 movie Schindler's List."

I was unaware that Schindler and the Chambon-sur-Lignon villagers were involved in a competition to see who could rescue the most Jews. Oh, they weren't? THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS COMPARISON?

As long as we're comparing who has the biggest Jew rescuin' under their belt, Raoul Wallenberg saved as many as 100,000 Jews! Chew on that Chambon-sur-Lignon!

I'm imagining a yearly showing of Schindler's List at the village cinema. All the villagers come to mock it, Rocky Horror Picture Show -style.

I think my grandmother could have written that. She is the reigning queen of useless comparisons: "why can't you be an early riser like the girl who works at my niece's coffee shop?"

As a matter of fact...

...Spielberg was well aware of Schindler's second-rate attempt at Jew-saving when he set about pre-production on his Oscar-heavy masterpiece. Fortunately for Misters Spielberg and Schindler the title 'Chambon-sur-Lignon's open-armed humanity to a persecuted minority' wasn't deemed punchy enough by Universal Pictures' marketing department. The rest, as they say, is a fictionalised portrayal of history.
