snape: pastede angst, snape angst, self-mockery, sarcasm, realistic snape

O_O  Guys... THIS.  This is my life.

Summarized perfectly by a Tumblr meme.
murderface: annoyed, annoyed, mbm: crop, young murderface, murderface: bein' a dick
If you're annoyed by these new crosspost comment options and you don't want them in your journal, here is a quick and painless way to get rid of them, posted by tod_hollykim (who apparently got the code from delaese; not sure of the original source).

After that, you can go fill out this poll (which is being monitored by LJ staff) to let them know how you feel about the new feature.  There is also another, similar poll over here.
murderface: annoyed, annoyed, mbm: crop, young murderface, murderface: bein' a dick
Another great show that is not a big headliner, so I doubt many of you (if any at all) are watching it.  I won't recommend it to those who want deep emotional issues and profound social commentary, complex plots, or outstanding acting (let me be clear: I'm not saying the acting is bad.  I'm just saying it's not outright Oscar-worthy).  But if you like cute, fun, lighthearted comedy-drama with a nostalgically 90s feel, then this is definitely a show you will enjoy.

Anyway...

Not a full review, just some thoughts.  Mostly on friendship and dating; which you might still find interesting, even if you don't watch the show.  But for those who do, it's spoiler-cut.Collapse )

PS: I know I'm an episode behind here; but I haven't seen the new one yet.  So if you have, no spoilers, please.

Archer 1x09: Job Offer

lucille bluth, excited, on crack
I don't know how many of you out there are watching Archer on FX, but if you're not, you should check it out — it's a pretty fun show.  I think it's a bit like Frisky Dingo meets Naked Gun meets Dilbert ...but probably a lot less crazy than that makes it sound.  And with a touch of Arrested Development; because Malory Archer is Lucille Bluth, pretty much.1

If none of that says anything to you, then... well, just give it a shot, basically.  You might really like it.  It's snarky and witty, with an engaging cast of characters, nice animation, and if you don't mind a bit of blatantly sexual humor (it's FX, after all), then it can be quite hilarious.  I especially love the cutaway jokes that are this show's staple.2  Oh yeah, and it has occasion to be totally slashy (both boyslash and femslash).  If you're into that sort of thing. *cough*

Anyway, I'm watching episode 1x08, and thought I'd jot down a few thoughts.  Because who doesn't love random episode reviews for some show you've never heard of?

Spoilers for 1x09 - "Job Offer"Collapse )

For anyone interested, you can watch "Job Offer" here: http://www.divxden.com/nxhrijq8p1nv/qfn-arch109.flv.html.  It's NOT one of those shows where you'll be totally confused if you're not watching the episodes in order; so I really encourage you guys to check it out. :)

1 She's even voiced by Jessica Walter. :P

2 Not like Family Guy's cutaways, but... well, you'll see.

3 "Captivated" by nautibitz (Spike/Buffy, NC-17).  Which is both utterly delicious, and a classic, like pretty much all of Nauti's stuff.  If you don't hate het, I would highly recommend this story.

4 Take Kurt Hummel, for example: instant favorite.  But no, I really shouldn't go off on a Glee tangent right now...

Exciting Things Are Happening

shippy spike, mbm: btvs, open-minded, bi!spike
I'm in a good mood right off the bat today. :D

(Heck, I'm even in the mood to update my journal, without having an immediate need to do so.  How rare is that?)

Part of this is thanks to chatting with the_ginga yesterday, which really helped get me out of the funk I was in.*  Another part is that I saw one of my icons randomly being used by someone I didn't specifically make it for.  And it's unseemly how happy/excited this sort of thing makes me.  Enough for one of those lame, corny anime smileys, even:  ^________^;

I do wish the person had commented (or if they did comment, that I hadn't missed it); especially because I'm really curious how someone not on my f'list came across an icon I hadn't publically shared yet.  But since it is snaggable, and used with credit, it's all good.

Mostly, I'm just hyped to see it getting some use. *bounces*

Oh, and I might even get to go to the Adult Swim party at the Santo Party House in New York, next week.  Emphasis on "might," sadly, because I can't go unless I find (a) someone to take the bus or carpool with, or (b) a place to crash in NYC overnight...

But I did just post about this at capslokdethklok, checking to see if anyone from Massachusetts is going.  And because I'm in high spirits at the mo', my hopes are up.

&&&&

* That's not to say don't comment on that post.  It would still seriously help to talk about this with a few more people.

Multi-Fandom Request-A-Fic
Meme Type-Thing

Um.  So, uh, everyone should go try to write (or maybe draw?) something.  And request something for yourself, too.  Also, pimp this in your own journals, so it can keep going... and that hopefully no requests go unanswered.

A couple of mine are at the back.  And yes, my reasons for wanting to spread the word are largely selfish: I'm hoping it will eventually lead to one of my own requests being answered.  But I want others' to get answered, too!  Everyone should get a happy out of this, not just me.  Plus?  C'mon, this is fun!  *nudges*

Oh, and you should read some of the [hopefully] great stuff that's already been written.  And comment, too!  All those people who are fulfilling others' requests deserve something for their trouble, don't they?

(I haven't read any of it yet, because it's late and I'm tired... but I definitely plan to.)

ETA: For anyone wondering what sort of [unfilled] requests there are so far, I decided to tally it up:

Snape/Black fun at Terminus

mmm, priceless, snape/black: hot, evil grin, s/s: hot
So, I know I haven't been around (and I'm still working on changing that, I swear.  The new policy changes on LJ should prove a great motivator), so I don't really know how many of you out there will or may be going to Terminus this summer.  But I am, and JediPirate and myself plan on holding a Snape/Black meetup at the conference — to my knowledge, the first of its kind.

Now, I know I have people on my f'list besides Jedi who either ship Snape/Black, or at least find the pairing somewhat intriguing.  Even if you aren't sure, just think about coming — you might have more fun than you'd expect.  (Believe me, I learned this lesson myself when I went to the Snape/Harry meetup at Prophecy, despite not being an avid Snarry 'shipper.)  Anyway, yesterday I posted an advert to relevant communities; I figure I'll repost that here:

Are you going to the Terminus 2008 symposium in Chicago this summer?  Are you a fan of the Severus Snape/Sirius Black pairing?  jedipirate and I will be hosting Siriusly Snaped, Severely Blackened: an Intersection (or meetup) for all those Terminus attendees who are interested in this sometimes underrepresented, often unorthodox, but always intriguing 'ship.

We hope to have goody-bags, games, smutty fic readings, a raffle and more!  Even if you're just curious about Snape/Black, we encourage you to drop by and share the fun, and find out what makes them so appealing.

For information and updates you should check out our community, siriusly_snaped.  An RSVP post will be up soon, and should remain open until July or later.  However, info for the Terminus program book is due this Sunday morning; so if you go HERE before then, you have a unique chance to vote on when we hold this meetup, before that time is finalized.

Don't miss out!

And remember: we only have until Sunday morning to decide on a time.  So if you think you might be interested, please help us out and vote!  And if you know someone else who might be interested, pimping this would be greatly appreciated. :)

Look! A friending meme!

This was pimped by hils, and I figured I'd link to it too (yes, my f-o list is fairly small... but I'm sure at least a couple of you should be interested).  Personally, I love these things.  It's one of the easiest ways to meet new people on LJ, and filling out those questionnaires is hella fun.

So, go and participate!  (And remember to pimp it in your own journals as well — the more people the better it works.)

Two Recs

b/a: short story, buffy/angel, cynical, ironic
As I mentioned earlier (though, I don't know if anyone remembers), moshi was writing a B/S fic (for meeeee!!).  Well, it's been posted now, and you should all go read it.

It's short, but full of lovely angst and UST, and the characterization is right on the money.  I'm sure all of you who are B/S fans — and maybe even those who aren't — would love it.

"Best Blood" - Spike/Buffy, R, 760 words

And another something I'd meant to rec earlier but sort of forgot (sorry about that)... the piece drbillbongo drew for dorkdance's V-Day challenge.

Even though this is a cartoon, it still completely breaks my heart.  And I think that really says something — to be able to create something so powerful within such a seemingly simple medium.

"Dead Valentine" - Commodore Norrington (Norrington/Elizabeth and Jack/Norrington implied), PG-13

So, go!  Read, look!  And give them both lots of feedback; both these pieces really deserve it.

How many people were born today, anyway?

norrington (2)
Turns out it's Jack Davenport's birthday, too.  Shame on me for not knowing.  (Bad fangirl! *hits with newspaper* :P)

Anyway... I haven't any more time today to do anything Jack or Norri-related, much as I'd love to (will try to next year, I promise).  But never fear!  The ever trusty Bill has come through with a lovely little picspam to show just why this man is worth swooning over.  Oh, and an article rec, too.

Go check it out: http://drbillbongo.livejournal.com/250850.html

And to you, Mr. Davenport, a happy 33-rd.  Thank you for enriching my TV and movie watching experience. *mwah*

Best.  RPG summary.  Evar.

Hogwarts in Spaaaace!

an accident triggered in the dungeon of Hogwarts castle launched every last wizarding school on earth into the outer reaches of the universe.Yeah, they're still puzzling out the whys of that one, but it seems to have something to do with a fail safe that's gone a bit awry. In the meantime, the students are facing trials they never thought they'd have to face before. Between the aliens and the meteor showers, a brief tripthrough time has even altered many peoples' ages. In fact, the rift inspace-time has altered things so much, that people are returning from the dead.

Oh my.  So, so much crack.  Almost makes me want to join...

UL has a few more of these: all actual, serious games.  Really, go read!
http://underlucius.livejournal.com/432581.html
b/a: short story, buffy/angel, cynical, ironic
So.  I didn't have time to participate in any of the Valentine's fandom stuff this year (though, I'll admit to wanting to), but dorkdance was having a last-minute anti-Valentine's Day challenge, so I thought I'd do that instead.  Pseudo-nonconformity is always fun, right? :P

The challenge is still going, by the way, and will stay open 'til whenever.  So please do feel free to participate and pimp it in your own journals!

As for me... I can't say that I'm 100% against Valentine's Day (being a dorky romantic at heart), but holidays in general tend to annoy me some.  Besides, I definitely agree with dorkdance's sentiment that having just one day designated for romance is rather lame.  And so is all the angsting we're encouraged go through if we don't have dates.

Thus, Art!  But first, a couple of unofficial notes:

1. This was meant to be just an offhand doodle.  Yeah... that didn't exactly happen.  I tried, I swear, but I think this may be as offhand as I get.

2. I was also going to add some gory blood-splatter and such.  That, too, didn't happen.  Mostly because by the time I finished the main drawing, I was afraid anything more might ruin it.

3. Oh, and there's lyrics.  I'm just horribly lame, I'm sure. *g*

Title: A Little Too Literal
Fandom: Harry Potter
Subject: Snape/Black, sort of.  Sirius comes back as Cupid to, uh... claim Snape's heart.
Rating: PG-13/R-ish
Medium: Sketched in pencil, traced in ink, sharpened in Photoshop
Disclaimer #1: They belong to JKR.  And even she's not this mean to them, usually.
Disclaimer #2: Despite the cartoon style used, Sirius is in his 30s and not intended to appear otherwise.  Any perception to the contrary is purely coincidental and out of my control.
Notes: Drawn for dorkdance's Really Last-Minute VD Challenge.  (Psst!  Go submit something!)
Warning: Dark humor, implied death (or heavy injury).  Partial nudity.

Ah, romance...Collapse )

Because I couldn't stand not to share...

qaf, b/m: hot, hot boy(s), brian/michael, smoking
For all those who haven't seen and might appreciate the pretty, moshi has a hot guy (or gall) comment picspam post up right now.

Being as indecisive as always, I went tad bit overboard with mine (seven pics in one comment), but seeing as I never ever do picspams normally, I think I can forgive myself.  Besides, who's really going to find fault with excess yummy boy goodness? ;)

So... go!  Swoon!  Post some pretty!

ETA: Because I didn't post my pictures in the first comment I made there, it's now collapsed (stupid me).  So if you don't want to miss your chance to drool over gorgeous 20-year-old!Heath Ledger, you'll have to check my thread.

ETA2: By the way, the photo orgy is still going.

Good News and Random Pluggage

b/s: season 5, hot, buffy/spike, b/s: hot
So, I tried to post on Tuesday (at school), but for some reason it didn't work *kicks Semagic*. Just as well, though -- it was just me whining about having no inspiration for "All About the Girl," and being generally depressive. No one needs to see that.

Meanwhile, I do have a couple reasons to feel better: not only does my baby, Retrospective, have 3 whole shiny new members this week, but it won "best splash" AND "best fanlisting" at the Angelic Enemies Awards. (By the way, if anyone wants to make me even happier, go join.)

Oh, plus, I got some much needed ego stroking from nautibitz (*appreciative lick*) concerning my graphic skills, so now I'm all smiley. She's my favorite person right now. Can I have somebody call my work fantastic at least once a day, please?

You know who else is my favorite person? m_annalore. She's totally my hero for saving me from the grips rp-withdrawal, not to mention that she's amazing to play with, as always (I'm loving ours right now). And dude, if you're reading this... your writing skills are beyond words. I'm torn between sizzling with jealousy and worshiping at your feet.

Speaking of which... if anyone isn't reading Learning Curve yet... you must go read it! Read it now!

Also, go watch Chicago, if you haven't. Or even if you have. Hurry, run out and rent it right now, I say! Seriously, though... has to be one of the best movies I've ever seen. Really.
