So, once upon a time I planned to post this whole long thing about the fact that I'm into Metalocalypse now, and why. But that... sorta never happened (though maybe it still will, who knows). But! I did promise all y'all more art. So I thought I would just jump right into that instead.
As a substitute for the big long explanation, let me just say that most of the characters on this show are quickly becoming some of my favorite characters of all time — and Pickles the Drummer (or should it be "Pickles the Frontman," in this case?) is most certainly among them. Also? C'mon, you gotta love a fandom where men in makeup is canon. I mean, guh.
Anyway, if you like the pic but don't know anything about the character and are curious, please do ask. But more importantly... if you've never watched the show, OMG DO! (I especially recommend the "big K" clip. It both cracks me up and breaks my heart every time.)
...Right. On to the arts!
Unofficial notes:
1. Colored charcoal is my new best friend, liek seriously. I mean, the last (and possibly first) time I used this medium was with "TEH INTERNETS R 4 PR0N!" and that was a ton of fun; but I've just found that very same box of charcoal and rediscovered my love for it. I think it's safe to say you'll be seeing a lot more of this from me in the future.
2. Look, Ma, no lines! Well... almost. I guess you can kinda see charcoal outlines here and there, though I did my best to eliminate them. But there was no other medium used, and I didn't even do a rough pencil sketch beforehand. I'm pretty proud of myself for that. *dork*
3. I realize now that his eyebrow rings are out of symmetry. *facepalm* Not that my art is terribly accurate/realistic in the first place... but still. (I could actually tell something was off when I was drawing it, but couldn't pinpoint how to fix it; and now it's too late.) I also tried my best to make them gold instead of silver, to match the earring, but somehow that just didn't happen.
4a. His sideburns look a bit off, too, I think: not quite as sideburnsy as they should (I seem to have this problem a lot — just not leaving enough room for a sideburn). I believe I need more practice ...which, on the bright side, gives me an excuse to draw more SNB!Pickles.
4b. I think the muttonchops he has now might actually be easier; though I could be way off on that. Guess I'll just have to try it to find out. Yay more Pickles art! :D
5. When my mom first saw this, she asked whether it was a self-portrait. Ô.o No lie. I mean, granted, she's over 60 and nearsighted... but still. Since when do I have bright orange hair and a beard?
6. The title might be kinda lame — but trust me, it's far from the worst I could've come up with. In a fit corniness and clearly bad judgment, I almost went with a pun and named this "Collar Me Wonderful." Ho boy... that woulda been atrocious. >_>
7. I'm still taking requests over at the "Grief" lineart post, and with four or five to go, I thought I would extend that here. Basically, anyone who comments on that or this may make a request of something they'd like me to draw. Click the link for more details.
8. That smile? Makes me melt, seriously. I know it's lame to say things like that about your own work— but, dude. Pickles is hot.
Title: Color Me Wonderful
Fandom: Metalocalypse
Subject: SNB-era Pickles, portrait
Rating: PG for mild androgyny
Medium: Colored charcoal
Disclaimer: I won't go into what would happen if I owned him. *cough* But clearly, I do not.
Warning: Uh... man!jewelry?
Notes: You can't tell, but his headband says "slut." Obviously, I need more practice with fabric folds. ...Also? I think I may just have to draw the other members of Snakes N' Barrels, now. So, uh. Watch out for that.

Comments
but, *grin* thanks. i really am very happy with the colors in this -- my scanner did a surprisingly good job of not botching them completely (though some touching-up in photoshop did take place). :P
and the smile, mmm... i'm glad to hear you like my smiles. i think they may just be my favorite part of a face to draw. especially the kind that are more than just your regular "i'm happy" smile.
This one looks very cheeky.
:D yup, that's pickles -- especially 80s!pickles. man, i love him...
dude, i just want to tell you so many things about this show. *facepalm* *restrains self*
Yes, your smiles are always very expressive and different depending on the character. I will always remember the Marauder-era Sirius you drew for me once - his smile in that is unforgettable. ♥
*GLOMPS j00*
You have very good color. It looks great :D
And a good expression
And the colors are fabulous ^^ I keep scrolling up to look at his eyes while I type this, so forgive any misspellings XD
p.s. Mind if I friend you? :3
(Colored charcoal... does that work kind of like pastels? Looks fun... and messy!)
Anyways, I love this! End of story.
This is spectacular! It's so vibrant and true to 80's SnB Pickles. I especially love the red tint in Pickles nose...makes it look like he's been partying.
hee. um. that's certainly a colorful description you've got, there. :P
but *g* thanks! i'm glad i managed to get his personality across (i particularly love your use of the word "vibrant" -- that's a very flattering way to put it). and, yup, that's exactly my reasoning behind his nose. he pretty much always looks at least a little bit drunk or high, doesn't he?
by the way, would you mind telling me which community you're here from? i try to keep tabs.
PS The quote about rainbows and kola's is from Sealab 2021, the stimutacs episode. :P
i've actually just recently found my box of colored charcoal crayons, which i've only used once before: over here, if you're curious. but i had a lot of fun with them, and definitely plan on using them more often from now on.
meanwhile, i hope you don't mind me asking, but could you tell me what community you're coming from? i try to keep track. ...oh, and thanks for the feedback! :D
also? yay for more t/s love. <3
Harry and Draco pr0n, sw8t. Definitely love the shading and texture.
Oh, dur, I knew I forgot something. I came from
Seriously. I love these two together. ♥!
also? there's a ton of great tutorials on deviantART, and some around here on lj, too (i could toss you a couple links, if you'd like). personally, i find working with a guide can be a lot more productive in terms of learning and improvement than just trying it on your own. by the way, i hate pencil too. bleh. or... i used to. but, have you tried mechanical pencil? if you haven't, i myself have found it a lot more like pen and less annoying than using a regular one.
Harry and Draco pr0n, sw8t. Definitely love the shading and texture.
heh, thanks. for some reason i seem to really like purple shadows. :P
so, you an h/d shipper, then?
Oh, dur, I knew I forgot something. I came from sausagefestival.
lol, don't worry. i think pretty much everyone forgot.
Seriously. I love these two together. ♥!
*grin* i know, right? they're like the whole reason i got into this fandom.
Not too much of an H/D shipper. I've never actually shipped either of them very actively. I just know I don't like Hermione with either. Other than that, I tend to be cool with whatever. ;] My only real OTPs in HP would be Sirius/Remus and Snape/Lucius.
I think I got into this fandom because I went to their concert. @____@ I had only seen a couple of episodes and heard a few songs, but the concert threw me into an obsession.
anyway, thanks! i'm glad you liked it. though, may i ask where you saw the link? i like to keep tabs on that sort of thing.
is it in oil pastels? it's really good, i LOVE the colors
(p.s. my bestest buddy
glad you like it, though. the colors in this are definitely my favorite part. :D
but may i ask where you saw the link for this?
p.s. my bestest buddy nikki_nevermore started flipping out at the song that's playing in your head. She <3s Doctor Horrible.
hee... i can't believe anyone even noticed that (i think this might be the first time i've ever gotten a comment on the music in a post). but, dude. that stuff was awesome. of course-- i do tend to love just about anything where joss whedon is involved. seriously, the man is a genius.
so, did you see the miniseries too, or just your friend?
Until then, AWESOME! The colors are great, and the mischievous look in his eyes is great!
but, thank you! i'm glad you liked it. though, may i ask where you saw the link? i just like to keep track of that sort of thing.
And yes...he is pure sex!
I request a sad!Skwis. Pwetty pwease?
anyway, thanks! i really am quite happy with his nose (had fun drawing it, too :P). and, mmm... gotta love men in makeup.
so, may i ask where you saw the link to this?
but, *grin* thanks. just made that icon; already love using it.
