the coloring was a lot of work; the reason he's so cross-hatchy is i was afraid coloring solidly with those pens would be too dark and ruin the drawing. but luckily it worked out in the end.


as to what he should look like... there's not much said about that in canon, as far as i recall -- just that he's bulgarian and he tends to slouch (not here, though, since he's trying to look formal). oh, also that he usually looks surly; but, again, that doesn't apply in this picture.

the movie actor looks like this, which isn't particularly close to either of my two drawings. but that's ok, the movies are only an interpretation, just like my art. ;)

of course, it would be different if i were drawing for a tv or movie fandom, like say PotC, since in that case the actors are the characters, not just one possible version of said characters (unless there are different movies with different actors all in one fandom). but... well, anyway. i'm sure you get what i mean, so i'll shut up about this now.

by the way, did you see the first one? *is annoyingly shameless*

i actually have to admit that i'm with you there: i think i like the other one better, in part because of viktor's look (but also because they look so cute and cuddly together, and here it's just him).

this thing with the shorter haircut and less scruffiness was just something i felt i needed to try, since i haven't a very set picture of him in my head one way or the other. i might lean more toward the longer hair if i end up drawing him again in the future, though.


anyway, thanks for the compliment on the style. i can never quite make up my mind between more realistic or more cartoony, but it's good to know both work. and i'm glad you liked the coloring (which was a pain in the butt to do). :P

yeah, i've thought about it, and i like the other one better as well. among other things, i think his expression came out more krum-like in that one. but the scruffiness does seem to suit him too, you're right.

this is more like how i used to imagine krum before i actually read book 4 (i was a latecomer to the fandom, so i knew about many of the characters before i caught up to where they actually first appear in canon), because the name "viktor" just sounds so very clean-cut.

and then, drawing this, it just felt like i ought to try a different take on him since i had the chance. you know?

i haven't officially done any pirate art yet (PotC or otherwise), but i think there are one of two things on my 'to draw' list, plus one commodore norrington piece in my sketchbook that i keep meaning to scan. jack sparrow, on the other hand, might be rather hard to draw... (not that i wouldn't still love to give him a try, when i've got the time.)

and there are a couple sirius pieces of mine that need finishing/scanning/posting. ;)


you know, actually, since you love both black and pirates, you might quite enjoy this pirate!AU snape/black piece that fiendling drew for me at The Witching Hour. i for one thought the puffy shirt and tight breeches suited sirius beyond perfectly. *drool*


and by the way, there are several PotC fanartists i could recommend you besides myself, if you're so inclined.

now, honestly, i don't think this took that long. though i can see how it would seem that way; i would probably think so too, if it were someone else's work. i did do a lot of touch-ups on it, however -- i'm very detail-obsessive like that (and i can still see a few things i wish i'd fixed *grmbl*). but, you know... it was a lot of fun, the coloring. trying something new an' all.

i'm not sure i like his expression here as much as the other, though. i think it's the eyebrows... they're angled wrong, making him look kinda... apologetic or something. i don't know. it's probably just me.

the quirky smile i do like. and did i mention how sweet you are with all the other stuff you said? *g*


i do have one thing in the works right now, so to speak. it's a marcus/oliver piece partially inspired by deepsix's "true but not nice" (gorgeous story, by the way, if you've never read it). only, i can't get oliver to quit looking like julie andrews. it's really quite annoying.

and i might (emphasis on the "might") try to draw something hermione-ish, or perhaps d/hr-ish, for inell's v-day challenge.* if i have time, that is.

oh, and there's still a bunch of stuff in my sketchbook from last summer, including that james portrait i mentioned to you once. i should really get on scanning all of those. *self-nudge*

well, that's somewhere on my 'to do' list, anyway...

yeah, in all honesty, i never really considered the pairing either until i stumbled onto it by accident, something like a year ago.* i remember i'd found it a little interesting (i do seem to have a small bit of a gryffindor/slytherin fetish), but then forgot about it pretty quickly. since neither of them are major characters, so it's not like i heard them mentioned a lot around fandom to remind me.

then, like this summer, i randomly got interested again** and started reading more fic, and i think "true but not nice" was the story that really made me fall in love with them...

at this point, i'd consider them one of my otp's. i do fall into things pretty quickly and pretty hard sometimes, it would seem. *g*


although, thinking about it now... i totally could've gotten into them long ago, through the movies, the same way i ended up being a d/hr shipper before i was even in the fandom. i mean, there are some really ust-ish scenes somewhere in there.

except, you know, back when i saw the first two films i wasn't a slasher yet. and when i was reading the books i didn't notice it, because i was... uh... paying more attention to the plot and stuff. heh.

*this was, i believe, through seeing a rec somewhere for prillalar's "in love" (which is also a wonderful story, but a very different take on them). at the time i think i'd actually been looking for popslash, of all things.

**oh, you know, i think i know what it was. this friend of mine that i used to roleplay with kept talking about percy/oliver all the time, since she's really into them (and because she was in the middle of writing a p/o epic), and it would just always make me think how much better flint would be. for my own taste, anyway.
