As promised yesterday, here is the second part of my gift to
rajrr for the Art Exchange.
Like I mentioned when posting the first piece, I had some trouble figuring out what I wanted Krum to look like. So this is a different take on him (except for the nose, which I guess I liked too much to change), and a slightly different drawing style as well.

the coloring was a lot of work; the reason he's so cross-hatchy is i was afraid coloring solidly with those pens would be too dark and ruin the drawing. but luckily it worked out in the end.
as to what he should look like... there's not much said about that in canon, as far as i recall -- just that he's bulgarian and he tends to slouch (not here, though, since he's trying to look formal). oh, also that he usually looks surly; but, again, that doesn't apply in this picture.
the movie actor looks like this, which isn't particularly close to either of my two drawings. but that's ok, the movies are only an interpretation, just like my art. ;)
Thanks for the pic - and you're right, art is interpretation! :)
my sincere compliments.
yours sincerely, spellwinder
though, may i ask where you saw the link to this pic? and, if you don't mind me asking, have you by any chance taken a look at the other one yet?
i do not remember in which of the several lj communities i am part of i saw this link.
probably i have not seen the other pic yet, otherwise i surely would have commented.
yours sincerely, spellwinder

and don't worry about not knowing where you saw the link. i'm trying to ask everyone, but it's ok if you don't remember.
thanks again for the feedback!
See you later then.

But I do like the style and the colouring :)
this thing with the shorter haircut and less scruffiness was just something i felt i needed to try, since i haven't a very set picture of him in my head one way or the other. i might lean more toward the longer hair if i end up drawing him again in the future, though.
anyway, thanks for the compliment on the style. i can never quite make up my mind between more realistic or more cartoony, but it's good to know both work. and i'm glad you liked the coloring (which was a pain in the butt to do). :P
thanks for commenting!
Very nice artwork. Definitely recognizable as Krum. I have difficulties drawing stick figures, so I am always in awe of other peoples' artistic abilities.
thaks very much for the feedback, i really appreciate it. glad to hear you liked the piece (and even more so that i managed to have him look in character; 'twas one of my biggest worries).
did you get a chance to see the other one, by the way? that's got a kind of different take on krum, so it might be, you know, interesting to compare...
Anyway, I just checked out the other picture of Krum and Cho. I like that one, too. Cho looks lovely. The picture do look different, but they both have the rough around the edges characteristic that I associate with Krum.
Oh, and how have you been? Anything new and exciting?
thanks very much for the feedback, i'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it!
(by the way, if i may be so bold as to ask, did by chance happen to check out the other krum yet?)
This one's adorable, but I think I still prefer the scruffier first interpretation. There's just something about it...
this is more like how i used to imagine krum before i actually read book 4 (i was a latecomer to the fandom, so i knew about many of the characters before i caught up to where they actually first appear in canon), because the name "viktor" just sounds so very clean-cut.
and then, drawing this, it just felt like i ought to try a different take on him since i had the chance. you know?
anyway, thanks a lot for the feedback! i'm glad to hear you liked them both. :D
obsessionsfascinations: Sirius Black and Pirates.Have you ever done any pirate art? Arr! This She-Captain would love to see it.
i haven't officially done any pirate art yet (PotC or otherwise), but i think there are one of two things on my 'to draw' list, plus one commodore norrington piece in my sketchbook that i keep meaning to scan. jack sparrow, on the other hand, might be rather hard to draw... (not that i wouldn't still love to give him a try, when i've got the time.)
and there are a couple sirius pieces of mine that need finishing/scanning/posting. ;)
you know, actually, since you love both black and pirates, you might quite enjoy this pirate!AU snape/black piece that
and by the way, there are several PotC fanartists i could recommend you besides myself, if you're so inclined.
I ADORE. I've never seen anything like it - I mean, the colours and shading is amazing. It must have taken ages to do. And I still love his nose, just like in your Krum/Cho piece. Eee, his expression - that quirky smile! It's wonderful. :) :)
I said it before, but I am so glad I've got the chance to see your art. I really hope you'll draw and post more (*shamelessly begs*). Got anything else in the pipelines?
*loves*
now, honestly, i don't think this took that long. though i can see how it would seem that way; i would probably think so too, if it were someone else's work. i did do a lot of touch-ups on it, however -- i'm very detail-obsessive like that (and i can still see a few things i wish i'd fixed *grmbl*). but, you know... it was a lot of fun, the coloring. trying something new an' all.
i'm not sure i like his expression here as much as the other, though. i think it's the eyebrows... they're angled wrong, making him look kinda... apologetic or something. i don't know. it's probably just me.
the quirky smile i do like. and did i mention how sweet you are with all the other stuff you said? *g*
i do have one thing in the works right now, so to speak. it's a marcus/oliver piece partially inspired by
and i might (emphasis on the "might") try to draw something hermione-ish, or perhaps d/hr-ish, for
oh, and there's still a bunch of stuff in my sketchbook from last summer, including that james portrait i mentioned to you once. i should really get on scanning all of those. *self-nudge*
well, that's somewhere on my 'to do' list, anyway...
by the way, whilst i'm trying to take a break from oliver wood's uncooperatively feminine face... want to give me a request? you know, since you're so sweet and wonderful, and to show you how much i missed you and stuff. :) (besides, my drawing muse could use a kick in the head, probably.)
----------------------------------------
*boy, i wish i could write some fic for that. but banging out a story in ten days (even if i had the right inspiration) is not particularly feasible for me, i'm sad to say.
Omg, really? *bouncebouncebounce* Thank you! That's so cool. Ee! Okay, um. I don't know what to choose! Er, okay, I'll give you a few choices... if you'd prefer to draw just a single character, then it's got to be Sirius. *g* If you're okay doing something slashy, then it's got to be Snack. And if you'd prefer to do het, I'd love to see Ron/Luna. *glee* Did I say thank you? I'll say it again just in case, THANK YOU!
Your Marcus/Oliver sounds very interesting. That's another pairing I haven't read/seen much of, so I'm really looking forward to seeing your illustration. I've just started reading True But Not Nice (thank you for the rec!), so I shall let you know what I thought of it soon. :) :)
did i mention this was a tough choice? but, ooh, i do so love making stuff for people. :D:D
no promises on speed or quality... but i will certainly do my best. erm, i promise. *g*
i do hope you'll like whatever it ends up being.
yeah, in all honesty, i never really considered the pairing either until i stumbled onto it by accident, something like a year ago.* i remember i'd found it a little interesting (i do seem to have a small bit of a gryffindor/slytherin fetish), but then forgot about it pretty quickly. since neither of them are major characters, so it's not like i heard them mentioned a lot around fandom to remind me.
then, like this summer, i randomly got interested again** and started reading more fic, and i think "true but not nice" was the story that really made me fall in love with them...
at this point, i'd consider them one of my otp's. i do fall into things pretty quickly and pretty hard sometimes, it would seem. *g*
although, thinking about it now... i totally could've gotten into them long ago, through the movies, the same way i ended up being a d/hr shipper before i was even in the fandom. i mean, there are some really ust-ish scenes somewhere in there.
except, you know, back when i saw the first two films i wasn't a slasher yet. and when i was reading the books i didn't notice it, because i was... uh... paying more attention to the plot and stuff. heh.
----------------------------------------
*this was, i believe, through seeing a rec somewhere for
**oh, you know, i think i know what it was. this friend of mine that i used to roleplay with kept talking about percy/oliver all the time, since she's really into them (and because she was in the middle of writing a p/o epic), and it would just always make me think how much better flint would be. for my own taste, anyway.
(and thank you again for your comments on the other one.)
(Now here's where I get awkward. I don't do criticism well.) Personally, though, my inner "vision" (lol) of Krum had a heavier brow, and he wasn't so cute. Actually, wasn't Krum a little stocky also? (I've been out of fandom for about a year, *blush*) I dunno, maybe it's just preference.
Ok, now that that awkwardness is done, I'll just say that overall, I do really like the picture, I just wanted to give my little bit of con-crit and leave it be. I didn't offend you, right?
