No, wait... that's Germany. They are two different countries, right? I find it hard to tell.
Anyway, for those who don't know — which is very nearly everyone — I am going to Europe for the next week, set to leave tomorrow afternoon. Just when I'd finally made a commitment to start posting at least once or twice a week, I am cruelly torn away from LiveJournal's welcoming bosom (and the Internet all together), and instead get to be bugged by my annoying holier-than-thou sister, while trudging around the Alpine mountainside. Well, no... actually, I hear there'll be a car involved.
Also, Europe has stores. European stores. And music. And funky art museums. And sometimes yummy food, even. So, it might no be all bad.
Plus I get to see Sam and Ben (nephews). Ben should be four or five now, I think, if Sammy is seven. Wow, I guess than means Gregory, the youngest, is already three. I bet he's talking in complete sentences now, an' everything.
Anyway, in honor of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, which will accompany me on my trip, I give you... *drumroll*
...more sentence drabbles! One is dedicated to the book, and another is for
kriken, whom i *heart* bery, bery much for her lovely comments. And the third is... uhm... I have no idea what possessed me to write it. I blame the fandom in whole.
Oh, and, some Buffy and QaF ones too, just 'cause I know my f'list is sadly lacking in HP fans.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Behind her eyes lurk monsters and bloodsucking creatures of the night, ancient prophesies, and girls no older than herself made to fight forces of darkness they do not understand... so she wills her eyes open and just lies there in bed, quietly waiting for dawn.
Harry Potter
1) James never really liked the taste of come, except for Peter's.
2) As much as he hated the name Riddle, it did rather befit current circumstances, Tom thought with a cynical smile.
3) He was there, almost there, almost had his hand around that whizzing blur of gold, struggling to beat the other boy to it... his hip rubbed up against Malfoy's, and suddenly everything else was gone, as if time had stopped— the next moment Harry was on the ground, blinking to see frowning teammates and hear Slytherins cheering in the stands, but all he could think was: "Best game I ever played."
(It's a bit out of character, maybe, but poor Harry's probably got a concussion — he's not thinking straight. *snerk*)
Queer as Folk
1) Brian Kinney had always had the longest lashes, so thick and dark and impossibly pretty — the very same lashes that, once upon a time, had made his best friend realize he liked boys better than girls.
2) His pencil breaks with a crack and Justin just stares at the paper for a long time, an unfinished stroke, the beginning of... something; it's late, he puts the sketchbook away and turns off the light.
Getting a bit metaphorical, there, aren't I? Interpret that last one as you will... ;)
More of these are here, if you didn't catch 'em the first time. And, did I mention how much I love feedback?

Comments
My feedback on this piece alone would be something like "Hot damn!". That's pretty much all I can think of to say at the moment.
*beams*
*goodbye hugs*
*glances meaningfully at drabbles* no thoughts at all? not even criticism?
They're better then some novel length fic I've read, how's that for feedback? ;)
Didn't read the HP ones because...no. But I really liked the Buffy one; makes me think of the nightmares/Slayer dreams she had during the first season. Very nice. And the QAF ones are good too. I like that Brian lead Michael to the realization that he was gay, cos you know it's so true!
So, when are you going to graduate to full paragraphs? ::nudge nudge:: ::wink wink::
So, when are you going to graduate to full paragraphs?
plot is the thing, really... it's like, i can write when i don't have to, you know, come up with stuff. paradox, i know.
there is that pretty holtz ficlet i never did post, though...
but, either way, i think i'll definitely be writing more of these, if nothing else. they're way too fun.
also, re: what you said, there... *glomp*
d'you really mean it? 'cause that's one of the sweetest things evah.
It's never going to happen. so you may as well not even waste your time. My wizards-named-Harry quota has already been filled.
plot is the thing
I'm not saying you should jump right into 30,000 word fic, that's insane. But you could try 100, or 200. I mean, you've already got some great starts with the sentences, just expand a bit.
d'you really mean it?
What? The being better then some long fic? Yeah, I meant it. But to be fair, how hard is it to mess up one sentence? Not to belittle your writing or anything, I'm just saying.
see... that's exactly it. far as i can tell, you seem to think it's all about harry, which it's really very much not. no, really.
there are adult characters too, who, in many ways, are by far more interesting that the students. there are complexities, and angst, and (mmmmm...) moral ambiguity, and sexy long hair...
...not to mention, like, the hands down HOTTEST slash ship i have ever come across. i'm not even kidding.
and no, in no way or form do i mean harry/draco.
*takes breath*
ok, ok, i realize the merits of a fandom cannot be based on one good pairing alone -- especially considering that whether or not the pairing is that good in the first place is a question of opinion. so, yes, it's certainly not just this...
but...
just take a look at this one passage of fic, please, and try and tell me it's not one of the hottest things you've read:
He narrowed his eyes at me. "So that's it, is it? The great Sirius Black is a pathetic, sniveling coward. Is that why you like turning into a dog, Black? So you can find a rubbish can to hide behind until the battle's over? Which is it, Black-- cowardice or treachery?"
I shoved him harder then, and heard him hit the stone wall with a satisfying thump. I planted my hands on either side of him and leaned in close.
"A traitor, am I? Funny how I'm not the one with the Dark Mark on my arm, you murdering, lying, whoring son of a bitch."
And then he knocked the wind right out of me.
He moved his hand.
And brushed it against the erection I didn't know I had, not removing his eyes from mine. And brushed it again, then a third time, until he had unleashed from my throat the strangled groan I hadn't known I was biting back. He unbuttoned the flap of my trousers with one swift movement and reached inside, wrapping his hand against my now rock-hard cock. I don't know why I didn't move. Stop! I screamed. Get your fucking hands off me! Except it came out as another groan, and I heard his breathing come faster and the dog inside me could smell the arousal on him, and it made me impossibly hard. With a few well-practiced jerks of his hand, he had my knees buckling and my come shooting over his hands, down my trouser front, onto my shoes.
Oh God, the shame of it. My face was on fire. I held myself motionless, on the theory that the longer I remained still, the longer It Would Not Have Happened. I braced myself for the full blast of Snape's contempt, the words that would make me sink into the floor and die of shame. He had waited so long for the chance to humiliate me, and God, had I just handed it to him in spades. He raised his come-spattered hand and--
And licked it. Oh God, he was licking it, keeping his eyes on mine. He sucked his fingers dry and ran his tongue down each of his fingers. My cock twitched in renewed arousal at the sight. He licked it clean, then took out his pocket handkerchief and carefully wiped my trembling front, tucking me back in my trousers. He bent to clean my shoes and my trouser leg. Then he folded the handkerchief back into its neat squares and slipped it into his pocket.
Only then did he lean forward and whisper in my ear, in a voice that sent shivers down my spine, "Me too, Black."
None of this has anything to do with the books, I know that, but... Ok. It's the stories that don't grab me. I saw the first movie and it did nothing for me. The characters just don't interest me. What they go thru doesn't interest me. And I know that the movies are never as good as the books, but when there's no interest whatsoever, it doesn't bode well for liking the books.
You may as well give up trying to convert me, you'd have more luck smashing your head against a wall. Sorry sweetie.
you know, it's not like i've never written full length fic before (someday, even, i am seriously going to revise those old pieces and post links to them in this journal). it's just, my muse has been precariously absent for the past year or so, with the exception of the abovementioned holtz ficlet (i wonder where i put that?), and... no, i think that's it. no, wait, there was also this, wasn't there?
anyway, as far drabble drabbles, as in, the traditional 100 or 200 word ones, go, they've always been a tad difficult for me. i think i managed one once, but never posted it, on account that it was, uh... crap. see, with sentences, in a way you're more confined, but in another way you have more room. i mean, i hate having an exact amount of words i have to use. (and, likewise, do i hate when people cheat and say "this is 98 words, or 105, but i'll call it a drabble anyway" -- that's just wussing out.)
also, i rather like the challenge of being able to put meaning and significance into just one sentence, whether long or short. a lot can be said in even a few measly words, sometimes -- i've noticed this from reading other people's sentence drabbles, and that's what so made me want to do my own in the first place.
But to be fair, how hard is it to mess up one sentence? Not to belittle your writing or anything, I'm just saying.
yeah, i know. but still, it gave me a happy.
by the way, did you ever check out the first set? there's some b/s ones there. *wink, nudge*
*looks at what she just wrote*
wow. i really am a whore, aren't i?
You wrote me H/D! I heart you so much right now :D
::clears throat::
Right, so, feedback...
The Buffy one was really poignant (heh - big words make me feeled all learned and stuff), and the QAF ones were wonderful as well.
The first HP one came out of nowhere - kinda hit me between the eyes, which was cool, cause that doesn't happen often. And I liked the dark tone of the second one. As for the last... :D You so teased me with the first few words! 'Course the end made up for it - and who says it's OOC? It could be...canon...someday... ::refuses to leave the happy HP world in her head where H/D abounds::
*g*

exactly what i was going for. uh, i think. i'm very happy with that reaction, anyway.
And I liked the dark tone of the second one.
Oh, yes. I do like dear Mr. Riddle quite a bit -- he's so much more fun than his older self.
...hey, look, i'm capitalizing. what da' heck? O.o
As for the last... :D You so teased me with the first few words!
heh. i did, didn't i? *eg*
i think it's this whole thing where quidditch is a metaphor for sex.
...or something.
and who says it's OOC? It could be...canon...someday...
lol. it's a fun little dream world you live in, isn't it? kinda like mine, where he's secretly in love with hermione. or, you know, ron. uh... i mean draco, not harry!
but, well, i just meant, if harry is attracted to draco, i doubt it's on that conscious a level. heh.
oh, and, i'm glad you liked the others as well. thanks so much for the review!
Have a fun and safe trip! :)
i'm glad you liked it. it's always gratifying to move someone (if even a little. heh).
