New York Mets (42-46) @ Atlanta Braves (44-45)

Mike Pelfrey (7-4, 4.47) vs. Jair Jurrjens (7-7, 2.91)

7:35 pm EDT

The Braves go for a 6th straight home win as they continue a 4-game set with the Mets. New York has lost 4 straight on the road for the 2nd time in 2009. The Mets are 6-3 in games that are part of a 4-game set so far this year. The Braves have won 9 of the last 12 meetings between these two teams in Atlanta.

In his last try, Mike Pelfrey allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 7 frames to the Reds as the Mets won 9-7. New York has lost 5 of Pelfrey's last 8 starts. Pelfrey faced Jurrjens earlier this season and allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings. In 3 career starts at Turner Field, Pelfrey has gone 1-1 with a 5.63 mark. Before this season, Pelfrey had gone 2-3 with a 5.55 ERA in 6 starts and 1 relief appearance spanning 37 and 1/3 innings against Atlanta.

Jurrjens has won just 2 of his last 8 outings, again due to a lack of run support. The Braves have averaged just 3.4 in those starts. In his last try he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings as the Braves topped the Rockies 4-3. That start was also his first career multhit game, and he tallied an RBI as well. Jurrjens is actually batting .333 (4-for-12) in his last 6 starts. Still, Jurrjens already has 2 wins in July after experiencing a winless June. In a start against the Mets in mid-May, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings, but the Braves lost 4-3 in 10 innings. In 3 prior starts against New York, he has gone 2-1 with a 4.00 mark in 18 innings, while holding them to a .213 average in 94 at-bats.

Third baseman Chipper Jones is 4-for-13 (.308) with 2 homers lifetime off of Pelfrey. Jones is a career .330 hitter against the Mets. Left fielder Garret Anderson is batting .423 (11-for-26) with 3 homers and 4 RBI over his last 7 home games. Catcher Brian McCann has a lifetime .400 (8-for-20) average off of Pelfrey.

"One Tree Hill" star opens B.G. restaurant [Thursday

Amber Sweeney, left, and Bethany Joy Galeotti perform as the duo Everly. Everly will provide entertainment at Galeotti's grand opening.

Actress, singer and songwriter, Bethany Joy Galeotti now can add restaurateur to her résumé. The CW Television Network star, who resides in Battle Ground when she's not in North Carolina filming the role of Haley James Scott on "One Tree Hill," has teamed with her husband, Enation band member Michael Galeotti, and in-laws to open Galeotti's.

The restaurant occupies the space in downtown Battle Ground that formerly housed Irby's Fine Dining and will celebrate its grand opening July 24 and 25.
They'd been looking for a way to get more involved with the community, and the restaurant seemed to be a good fit, said Bethany Joy Galeotti, 28.

"It's been an amazing opportunity for us to grow and dream. It's been really good for us as a family," she said. "We love good food and wine, and we love people. We couldn't think of a better way to reach out and touch the community. We want to be the living room of Battle Ground."
The restaurant will focus on healthful, organic, locally sourced foods, and will use eco-friendly materials and supplies whenever possible, Galeotti said.

Although she spends much of the year across the country, she plans to help out at the restaurant whenever possible, so diners may spot her seating guests or waiting tables from time to time.

New York Mets (42-45) @ Atlanta Braves (43-45)

Oliver Perez (2-2, 8.78) vs. Derek Lowe (8-7, 4.39)

7:10 pm EDT

The Mets are 6.5 games out of first place in the NL East and have suffered a variety of key injuries in the first half of the 2009 campaign. They have a majors-low 52 homers on the season. In their last 18 games, the team has hit just .226, swatted only 7 homers, and averaged fewer than 3 runs per game. They have hit just 3 homers in July, and went 80 consecutive innings without one before the 7th inning of their last contest. This is the first time the Mets are under .500 heading out of the All-Star brea since 2003, when they were 40-53. Last season, the club was 51-44 at the break. New York went just 1-8 in Atlanta in 2008, but swept a 2-game series there in early May. The Braves won a 3-game set in mid-May against their division rivals, so the season series stands at 3-2 in New York's favor so far.

Oliver Perez will be making his 2nd start since returning from a disabled list stint. In his last start he beat the Dodgers by lasting through a 5-4 game, issuing 7 walks but allowing just 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings. Perez notched 15 wins with a 3.56 mark in 2007 but regressed to a 10-7 record and a 4.22 mark last season, failing to win consecutive starts the entire season. The slide continued early this season, as he went 1-2 with a 9.97 ERA in 5 starts before being shelved. Last season, Perez went 0-0 with a 3.72 ERA in 3 tries against the Braves. In the 8 starts prior to 2008, he had gone 6-2 with a 3.17 mark against the team. Overall, he is 5-2 with a 3.47 mark in 13 starts against the Braves, and 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 5 Turner Field starts.

Derek Lowe currently holds the worst ERA he's ever had in 5 seasons as an NLer. He rebounded in his last start, allowing just 1 run in 6 innings as the Braves topped the Rockies 4-1. He had gone 0-4 with an 8.61 mark in his last 5 tries before the solid effort. Lowe beat the Mets earlier this season in mid-May, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits as the Braves won 8-3.

Right fielder Jeff Francoeur has gone 4-for-9 in 2 games with his new team. Outfielder Gary Sheffield now has 1,668 lifetime RBI, good enough for 24th all-time. Utilityman Fernando Tatis has 2 of the club's 3 July homers.

Right fielder Ryan Church has gone 1-for-9 since being traded to the Braves. Third baseman Chipper Jones is hitting .423 (11-for-26) lifetime off of Perez with a homer and 3 RBI. Jones is also now tied with Hank Aaron with 2nd in franchise history with 1,297 walks. Shorstop Yunel Escobar is 4-for-8 in his career against Perez.

WE LOVE TV: "One Tree Hill" -- Who's going to the strip club? & Daphne Zuniga returns to MP [Tuesday

"One Tree Hill" continues to film it's seventh season this month around Wilmington, and we've learned that one of the locations they'll be filming at is Pure Gold. Yep, a strip club. So, who wants to guess which characters are going to be involved in that scene?

It doesn't seem like someplace that Nathan would go to on his own, so I'm guessing maybe his new buddy/agent (Robert Buckley) takes him there?

Or maybe the new face of Clothes Over Bros works there? Like maybe Brooke "rescues" a stripper to be her new supermodel?

Maybe it's Skills' birthday?

All will be revealed this season, but in the meantime, I'm interested in your theories. Post them below.

Plus, check out these photos from recent filming in downtown Wilmington with Austin Nichols and fans.

Atlanta Braves (43-44) @ Colorado Rockies (46-39)

Kris Medlen (2-3, 5.72) vs. Jason Hammel (5-4, 4.07)

3:10 pm EDT

The Rockies have dropped 2 straight to the Braves, going 2-for-19 with runners in scoring position in the process. The Braves have won 4 of 5 and 9 of 13. They can reach the .500 mark for the season for the first time since June 12 by winning tonight's game, the last before the All-Star break. Colorado, meanwhile, has gone 5-4 on a 10-game homestand. They haven't lost 3 in a row since May 31-June 3, when they lost 4 in a row.

Kris Medlen will be making his 4th career start and his first since late May. He is starting in place of Javier Vazquez, who is sitting out with a lower abdominal strain. Medlen went 1-2 with a 6.28 ERA as a starter before Tommy Hanson's arrival pushed him to the bullpen. As a reliever, he made 7 appearances, posting a 5.14 ERA and letting opponents reach base at a .387 clip. He made his big league debut against Colorado, allowing 5 runs in 3+ innings of work. He walked 5 and threw 2 wild pitches as the Braves lost 9-0.

Colorado has won Jason Hammel's last 4 home starts, despite him going 1-0 with a 6.53 over that stretch. In his last start he allowed 4 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings to the Nationals, but got a no-decision as the Rockies edged Washington 5-4. He yielded 2 homers in the outing. In his first 8 starts, Hammel went 0-3 with a 4.60 ERA. Over his last 9 starts, however, Hammel is 5-1 with a 3.76 mark. Right before that stretch, however, Hammel yielded a season-high 6 runs (3 earned) in 6 innings to the Braves to lose an 8-1 game. It was the only time he had faced the Braves in his career.

Shortstop Yunel Escobar might be back in the lineup for today's contest after missing 2 games with a sore lower back.

Outfielder Brad Hawpe is 2nd on his club with a .318 average and is tied for the team lead with 57 RBI, but is just 3-for-24 (.125) this season against the Braves. The average is his lowest against any team he has faced at least twice on the year, and he has tallied just 1 RBI in 7 games against Atlanta. That RBI came off of Medlen. Outfielder Dexter Fowler has 20 steals on the year and has swiped a base in 4 straight games, a career-high for him. Outfielder Seth Smith is batting .386 (22-for-57) after the 6th inning this season.

Fun fact: The last time the Mets and Braves traded players was 1996, with a Paul Byrd and Greg McMichael exchange. The last time the two teams swapped players during a season was actually 1991, when the Braves received Alejandro Pena for Tony Castillo.

Atlanta Braves (42-44) @ Colorado Rockies (46-40)

Jair Jurrjens (6-7, 2.91) vs. Jason Marquis (11-5, 3.61)

8:10 p.m. EDT

The Rockies had their 4-game winning streak snapped with last night's defeat. The Braves are now 4-4 on their 10-game road trip. Still, Colorado has lost just 8 times in their last 34 games. The Braves have won 8 of 12, but remain 5 games back of the Phillies in the division.

Jair Jurrjens has gone 1-5 over his last 7 starts, but has maintained a 3.40 ERA in that stretch. In his last start he allowed 4 runs in 6 innings to the Cubs as the Braves fell 9-2. The Braves have scored 2 or fewer runs in 9 of his starts on the year. Jurrjens has allowed 4 runs just 3 times this season, but has allowed 3 homers over his last 4 starts. He has beaten the Rockies 3 straight times in his career, including a 7-inning, 1-run performance earlier this season.

Jason Marquis will try to garner a majors-leading 12th victory in tonight's outing. Marquis went 23-18 in 2 seasons with the Cubs and was 50-48 in 4 campaigns prior to that, but actually won a career-high 15 games with the Cardinals in 2004. A former Brave, Marquis went 14-15 in 4 seasons with Atlanta to begin his career. If he does record his 12th victory this season tonight, he will set a Colorado franchise record for wins before the All-Star break. He's thrown a ton of scoreless innings recently, shutting out the Nationals for 8 innings to win a 1-0 contest in his last try, and throwing a complete game shutout against the Dodgers in the start before that. He is just a few innings away from breaking his career high shutout innings streak, which he accomplished in late 2004 by throwing 18 and 1/3 scoreless frames. 9 of his 11 wins have come following a Rockies loss. He has held opposing batters to an 0-for-9 in bases-loaded situations. Marquis has also beaten the Braves twice in a row, including a victory earlier this season where he allowed just 1 run in 8 innings in a 5-1 game. He has posted a 2.03 in his last 2 starts against his former club after going 0-3 with a 14.04 ERA in his first 4 meetings with the club. Overall, he is 2-3 with an 8.70 mark against the Braves.

Recently acquired outfielder Ryan Church is expected to be in the starting lineup in tonight's game. Church has batted a career .325 (13-for-40) against Colorado, including a .412 (7-for-17) line at Coors field. Church is a lifetime .282 batter with an .822 OPS off of righties, while he has gone just .245 with a .683 OPS against lefties. This season the splits have been exaggerated: .310 with a .784 OPS off of righties; .167 with a .414 OPS against southpaws in 48 at-bats. Outfielder Matt Diaz, who is expected to platoon with Church, has a .500 average through 24 at-bats this month. Third baseman Chipper Jones is 5-for-10 with 3 homers lifetime off of Marquis.

Atlanta Braves (41-44) @ Colorado Rockies (46-39)

Derek Lowe (7-7, 4.56) vs. Ubaldo Jimenez (6-8, 3.86)

9:10 pm EDT

The Rockies attempt to take their 5th straight game and earn at least a series split with the Braves. They have started a 4-game winning streak after going 5-6 in 11 games. Since manager Jim Tracy has taken over after the firing of Clint Hurdle, the Rockies have gone 28-11. Colorado has also won 15 of 19 at home, despite losing 2 of 3 to the Diamondbacks there before the Braves came to town. Their 46 wins are the most for the club before the All-Star break since 2000. Colorado has gone 13-21 against teams in their division, but 33-18 against all other opponents. The Braves had a 2-game winning streak snapped with last night's tough loss. In yesterday's game, the Braves scored more than 4 runs for the first time in 6 contests.

Derek Lowe hasn't won since June 9. In his last start, the veteran allowed 4 runs on 10 hits in 5 and 1/3 innings as the Braves lost 5-3 to the Nationals. He is 0-for-4 with an 8.61 ERA in his last 5 outings. Over his last 8 tries, he is 1-5 with a 6.15 mark. Between mid-August of 2008 and late May of this season, Lowe had 12-3 with a 2.34 mark. Since then, however, he hasn't been the same pitcher, allowing 65 hits in 44 innings over 8 starts. In 17 lifetime starts against Colorado, Lowe has gone 7-7 with a 4.50 ERA. He allowed 2 runs in 8 innings to them as the Braves lost a 5-1 game in mid-May. In 8 starts at Coors Field, he has gone 2-4 with a 6.23 mark. In his past 3 starts there, he has gone 0-3 with a 10.66 ERA. Over the 5 previous starts he had made there, he was 2-1 with a 4.40 mark.

Ubaldo Jimenez has lost 2 straight starts. In his last try he allowed 4 runs on 4 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings. He struck out in the outing, but also walked 5 as the Rockies fell 4-3 to the Diamondbacks. Still, he managed to no-hit Arizona for 5 and 2/3 innings until serving up a 3-run homer. Jimenez has thrown more than 100 pitches in all but 1 of his 17 starts this season. He hasn't received a lot of run support: in 9 of 17 outings the Rockies have scored just 3 runs or fewer, and have gone 1- in those contests. In 4 career starts against the Braves, Jimenez has gone 1-2 with a 5.66 ERA.

Right fielder Jeff Francoeur has gone 0-for-10 lifetime against Jimenez. Third baseman Chipper Jones might return to the lineup in tonight's game. Jones has gone 4-for-12 with 4 walks in 5 games against Colorado this season.

Infielder Ian Stewart leads the team with 16 homers. Infielder Clint Barmes is batting .409 (9-for-22) with 6 RBI in his last 5 games. In 5 games against the Braves this season, Barmes has gone 6-for-18 with 4 RBI. The speedy infielder already has 100 doubles in his young career, making him just the 12th Rockie to achieve that feat. Outfielder Brad Hawpe is 11-for-34 lifetime off of Lowe, with 3 homers and 9 RBI. First baseman Todd Helton is 13-for-39 with a homer and 4 RBI against him in his career.

Atlanta Braves (41-43) @ Colorado Rockies (45-39)

Tommy Hanson (4-0, 2.25) vs. Aaron Cook (8-3, 3.76)

8:40 pm EDT

The Rockies go for a 4th straight win as they begin a 4-game set with the Braves. Colorado just swept the Nationals for its 3rd sweep in their last 5 home series. The Rockies have gone 25-7 since June 4, including a 12-3 record at home. They have benefited from solid starting pitching, and haven't put up too many crooked numbers: they have scored double figures in runs just once since June 27, and just once at home since May 13. The Braves have won 7 of 10 and are departing Chicago with their first road series win since taking 2 of 3 from the Mets in mid-May. These two teams split a 4-game series in Atlanta earlier this season. Atlanta tallied 20 runs and hit .380 as a team in their 2 wins, but scored just 1 run while batting .153 in the 2 losses.

Tommy Hanson will attempt to become the first Atlanta rookie to begin a season 5-0 as a starter since Larry McWilliams went 7-0 in 1978.* In his last outing, Hanson held the Nationals to 1 run on 3 hits in 7 frames while punching out 5, but the bullpen melted down and the Braves ended up losing 5-3. Hanson received a no-decision for his efforts. The rookie has allowed just 1 run in his last 27 innings, and has already blanked the Yankees and Red Sox in 2 outings this season. Before yielding a solo shot to Adam Dunn, he had completed 26 straight scoreless frames. The Braves are 5-1 in his 6 starts this season.

Aaron Cook has posted a 1.98 ERA over his last 6 starts. He had won 5 straight outings but received a no-decision in his last try against the Diamondbacks despite allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 9 hits in 5 innings as the Rockies fell 11-7. In 8 starts and 2 relief appearances lifetime versus Atlanta, Cook has gone 1-1 with a 4.19 ERA. If Cook records a victory tonight, he will set both a personal and franchise record with 6 straight winning decisions. Earlier this season, he pitched a 4-hit, complete-game shutout against the Braves as Colorado cruised to a 9-0 victory.

Third baseman Chipper Jones has a personal 11-game hitting streak against the Rockies, going 16-for-41 (.390) over that stretch. He went 4-for-12 against them earlier this season. Left fielder Garret Anderson is a lifetime .500 (15-for-30) hitter with 3 doubles, 4 homers, and 11 RBI at Coors Field. Center fielder Nate McLouth has a 9-game hitting streak and is batting .343 (12-for-35) with 3 doubles and 2 homers over that span.

Before amassing 3 hits last night, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was just 4-for-33 (.121) in his previous 8 contests. Still, he has hit .290 since June 1, and has 9 homers since June 8. Center fielder Dexter Fowler tied a Colorado rookie record by stealing his 17th base yesterday. His next steal will surpass Quinton McCracken's mark, who tallied his steals in 1996.

* -- Jung Keun Bong actually went 5-0 as a rookie reliever in 2003.

The Sourcies Snuggle Up with Best Couple! [Thursday

[naturellebella]
We're entering week two of The Sourcies, and we have our first winner! Supernatural's Castiel totally smote the competition in the Favorite Newcomer category, reducing everyone else to piles of unrighteous ash. Julian from One Tree Hill put up a bit of a fight, but he was overcome by Castiel's holy wrath. Congratulations, Cas!

Today we open the voting for Best Couple, and we KNOW it's going to be controversial -- in part because of who we chose to go through. First off, we confined it to one couple per show -- we figured that was the only way to make things fair. That means your fave couple may not have made it. Sorry, but there are only so many nominees we could include.

With that out of the way... voting for Best Couple is open! The poll closes on July 15, so get to it! And don't forget: There's still time to get in your vote for Best Fight!

Atlanta Braves (40-43) @ Chicago Cubs (41-40)

Kenshin Kawakami (4-6, 4.46) vs. Kevin Hart (0-0, 1.59)

2:20 pm EDT

The Braves attempt to win their 1st road series in nearly 2 months. They snapped a 3-game losing streak with last night's win, but are 7-14 on the road since taking 2 of 3 in New York in mid-May. That series win against the Mets was the only one they have tallied since. The Braves have scored 3 runs or fewer in 4 straight games. The Cubs have gone 5-2 in their last 7 games.

In his last start, Kenshin Kawakami allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits while punching out 6 in just 4 and 1/3 innings. He got a no-decision as the Braves won a wild 9-8 game against the Nationals. Kawakami is still battling a bruised neck which he suffered after being hit by a batted ball against the Yankees. Since June 2, he has gone 1-0 with a 4.02 mark, he was 3-3 with a 3.18 ERA in the 10 prior outings. He has already faced the Cubs once this year, allowing 3 earned in 7 innings as the Braves won 6-5 in 12 innings.

Kevin Hart was optioned to AAA-Iowa yesterday, but was immediately recalled to make his first career start due to Ryan Dempster's toe injury. Hart has made 4 relief appearances this season, but has yet to receive a decision. In those appearances he has completed 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing 1 run on 3 hits and 5 walks. In his last outing he pitched 2 hitless innings against the Brewers. Hart has spent parts of 3 campaigns with Chicago, tallying a 4.47 career ERA over 33 relief appearances spanning 44 and 1/3 innings. He has allowed 49 hits and 27 walks in his career. As a member of the Iowa minor league club, Hart posted a 3.10 ERA in 22 games, including a 1.41 mark in 6 starts where he held opponents to a .157 average against.

Third baseman Chipper Jones might have to sit out today's contest after missing yesterday's game with a strained right groin. Jones is batting .292 with 9 homers and 40 RBI on the season. The Braves are 6-8 when he is absent from the starting lineup. Jones was batting .417 (5-for-12) with 3 RBI against Chicago on the year. Atlanta Braves (39-43) @ Chicago Cubs (41-39)

Javier Vazquez (5-7, 3.05) vs. Carlos Zambrano (4-3, 3.50)

8:05 pm EDT

The Cubs have won 5 of 6 in July. They are going for their 9th win in 10 home games. The Braves have been outscored 14-8 as they have lost 3 straight games, each on the road, coming on the heels of a 5-game winning streak. They have lost 5 straight at Wrigley Field.

The Braves are not backing Javier Vazquez well, averaging just 1.84 runs over his last 8 tries. In that stretch, he is 1-4 with a 2.68 ERA. In his last 6 starts, he is 1-3 with a 2.16 mark, holding opponents to a .213 average and .253 on-base percentage. He ranks 2nd in the NL in strikeouts and 8th in ERA. In his last start, he allowed 2 runs in 5 and 1/3 frames to the Phillies, but received just a no-decision for his effort. For his only win in his last 6 tries, Vazquez hurled 6 and 2/3 innings of scoreless ball to beat Chicago earlier this season as the Braves prevailed 2-0. Still, he does not have a win at Wrigley since September of 2002, and has allowed at least 4 earned runs in each of his last 3 starts there, the most recent of which was a 7-1 loss last June. In 5 starts against the Cubs while a member of the White Sox, Vazquez went 0-1 with a 5.93 ERA. In the 3 starts at Wrigley as the Cubbies' crosstown rival, he posted a 6.63 mark and averaged allowing 2.37 homers per 9 innings.

Carlos Zambrano already has 10 quality starts on the season as a result of his last outing, where he allowed 1 run on 5 hits in 7 innings versus the Brewers. He is stepping in for scheduled starter Ryan Dempster, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right toe fracture.

Center fielder Nate McLouth is batting 7-for-13 with 2 homers and 4 RBI over his last 3 games. Of his 19 career hits at Wrigley Field, 9 have left the yard.

First baseman Derrek Lee is batting .333 with 5 homers and 14 RBI in his last 6 games. He leads the club with 16 homers on the season. After batting just .244 with 5 homers and 19 RBI in his first 36 games this season, he has gone to hit .333 with 11 homers and 34 RBI in his last 33 contests. He also recorded a career-best 21-game hitting streak in the span. Lee is also 14-for-42 (.333) with 3 homers in a personal 10-game hitting streak against the Braves. Lastly, Lee has a .396 average with 3 homers in 53 career at-bats off of Vazquez. Third baseman Aramis Ramirez returned from the shelf last night and went 0-for-4. Ramirez was hitting .364 with 4 homers and 16 RBI before his injury. Outfielder Reed Johnson has a career .287 average when hitting leadoff.
