I'm so tired that I can't fight the urge to move with you

This week has been absolutely amazing, best ever maybe? It seems like FOREVER since Monday since I've thought about it so much but on the other hand it seems like it's all over so quickly after all the build-up... roll on Kat + Jemma's Dykeenies Tour '08. And well, the album release and tour this year as well obvs but you know. XD

The Dykeenies, King Tuts, 12/7/07

Got into good auld Glesgae after a really shite day at about half 5, Jemma wasn't arriving till six so I went a wander up a big massive hill to find King Tuts lol, it's underneath an estate agents wtf??? Anyway I met Jemma at 6 and we headed up to the venue, we were like the first folk there and we hoped that the Dykeenies'd come out... then all these ned folk turned up and we were yet again depressed by this :( Wtf? Hoped that the whole crowd wouldn't be annoying silly fangirls, but however it seemed it would be... x__X It got to 7 and we figured it'd be unlikely they'd come out at this stage... all those ned girls infront of us were really irritating, they kept fucking staring at us O_O Wankers. Anyways that last hour of queueing went in so incredibly slowly, and we got really pissed off when we were finally allowed in 'cause all these randoms that'd been standing about had got in before us meaning = we probably wouldn't get to the barrier, annoying since we're far from tall the pair of us :S We got in and we were second row, we could sort of see but you know.. everyone was taller. :| We spotted Steven while we were waiting haha. So, the gig...

The Debuts: They couldn't have been much older than us??? They were alright, a bit samey, nothing too thrilling - not so bad though, although that song in which there're lyrics like "text me back" was a bit.. o_o The singer's voice did my box in as well haha. But they were alright: nothing more/nothing less.
Arcadian: We'd seen some of this lot hanging around outside having fags... LOL they were well giving us the eye btw when we were sitting on the stairs!!! XD Amusing. Anyway I was kinda dreading this lot after they nearly sent me to sleep last time. Although this time they weren't quite as I remembered them, probably 'cause it was a smaller venue and in closer proximity the sound was better: their songs weren't quite as samey as I remember... and the singer's voice, well, that CERTAINLY wasn't how I remembered it :| Probably 'cause I was half asleep and pretty pissed off in April. When he started singing we were like "...O_O" 'cause his voice is... well, to put it diplomatically, I think there's something intriguing about it as his singing is sort of... affected, if you get what I mean. But really if you don't like that kind of thing... it's pretty much like nails down a blackboard. That one song that goes "if I can't touch you, no-one else should; if I can't have you, no-one else would" or whatever, is the most memorable, but I can't tell if I like it or if I just think it's quite fucking lame. But anyway. We were quite glad to see the back of them tbh :P

Ahahah after this the roadies were coming on to set up the instruments etc and John came out, and everyone started cheering really loudly, lmao, his face was fucking priceless :P Then there was the girl taking pictures of the roadies, LOLOL. Wtf. Then we saw them bringing out Brian's synths, and on the front of it he had this sign saying "I am a legend". Utter quality.

I think one of the greatest moments ever is when The Dykeenies come out onstage and start "The Panic", and it kicks in, I actually can't put into words the rush I get, but for some reason it's dead comforting and you just know it's going to be one utterly fantastic gig, and that everything is worth it when you're finally there. LOL AT THE GUY WITH THE DYKEENIES ♥ ME BANNER.

BRIAN CAME OUT WEARING THAT SEXY HOODIE THAT PAUL SMITH ALSO HAS AND THAT I CAN'T FIND ANYWHERE FOR LOVE NOR MONEY, and then when he took it off we saw his t-shirt that said "I Am A Legend" on the front, and on the back? "An actual God!" How much do I want that btw?? XD

Setlist!
THE PANIC
IN & OUT
THINGS YOU CANNOT SEE
PICK YOU UP
STITCHES
CLEAN UP YOUR EYES
LOSE OURSELVES
DEATH TO THE DANCEFLOOR
NEW IDEAS
--
STATIONARY
WAITING FOR GO

•Everyone sang along to the acapella bit at the beginning of The Panic, which is quite fucked really, I miss the days of the support slots and the room being utterly silent when Brian starts belting it out. But nonetheless, it was tremendous. Despite never having heard it on record yet it's up there with my favourite Dykeenies songs. Discovering it was written about 'the fear of having an STD' almost spoilt it for me XD but I forgot about it at the time, and that "I would die for you" bit is still genius. In & Out right after it was A+ also.
•BRIAN LOOKED ME IN THE EYE AND POINTED AT ME RIGHT BEFORE THEY STARTED THINGS YOU CANNOT SEE. Aye you bet he did and that I almost fainted. Haha. He also went on about how accurate his t-shirt was (which it obvs is) and made us all sing "Briaaaan's a leg-end!" LOLZZZZ. It was actually amazing.
•Pick You Up: "This one's for the laaaaadies" haha. When we got told it was Pick You Up, we spazzed. From the way it sounds live, you wouldn't expect it to be the trancey number it is haha, but it is so good live. OH AND, BRIAN LOOKED AT JEMMA AND I DURING A CERTAIN LINE IN THE SONG ABOUT LUST. BRIAN. ME AND JEMMA. LUST. OH YES. :D:D:D XDDDD Lmao. He obviously loves us fucksake.
•Craigy Bhoy that proposed to his lady at T in the Park during the Dykeenies' set was there, and Brian dedicated Stitches to him which was very nice etc. Stitches was absolutely amazing though, sent a complete shiver down my spine, everyone singing the chorus.. "I adore the taste of rain, and the bounce of bone on ground.." etc was quite stunning, to be honest. I think this will always be one of my favourite Dykeenies songs.
•Clean Up Your Eyes I can actually remember hardly anything about. I do remember the "do-do-do-do-doo"s at the end though, naturally. I think I was just so busy singing and bouncing my wee heart out...
•ARGH OMG LOSE OURSELVES. Brian held my gaze for most of the first verse :P, well the first two lines: "When the music stops and you just tie your fingers around mine, and I'm so tired that I can't fight the urge to move with you..." ...OOOHHH. XD Rawr. This song was fantastic also - I absolutely adore the drumming on this. As much as John amuses me he's good at what he does :P
•Death to the Dancefloor was fucking brilliance, I really like it live - it's much darker and more intense sounding than it is on record. It was also at this point I think that Brian and Andy were telling us we had to dance... and that Brian has a pistol O_O lmao.
•WAHEY NEW IDEAS AND THE HANDCLAPS. I'd given up on taking photos by this point (I only have 7 and they're all of Brian :S) but I was too busy being quite the spaz.
•Encore - we were hoping and praying for Coward's Words, but alas we never got to hear it. :( I was gutted, thought there'd have been a chance since in April they played Safe... but nah. I like Coward's Words better personally but what can you do. ANYWAY not to put a negative spin on this.
•THEY BROUGHT OUT MASSIVE BALLOONS LIKE AT MUSE BUT NOT QUITE AS BIG, WITH LOADS OF CONFETTI IN THEM AHAHA. It wasn't till today that I found out how much confetti I really must've been covered in as it's all over my carpet now. Haha.
•In the place of Coward's Words was a welcome return to the set for Stationary. Haven't heard that live since the Garage in December, UH AH UH AH UH WAA-AAA-AAAH AH UH AH UH AH UH WHOA-OH-OH-OH UH OH UH OH UH etc. XDD This was BRILLIANT though, "the heart wants what the heart wants what it can't have" was just.. ♥
•And finally Waiting For Go (I finally managed to get right on the barrier here, I'd been half on half off the whole gig, and when I wasn't I could see okay anyway between Jemma and this random, haha... there were some right irritations that had their arms all over us though -_-), Brian made us sing the entire first verse like before, 'cause he "didn't want to sing it" XD Haha. It's wonderful, its kind of amazing to see the difference in how the crowds know all the words now as opposed to away back last year. They were so wonderful though, aww I need to see them again, like NOW. It's an utter addiction and KLJFJKLS I LOVE THEM OKAY! I'm going to marry Brian and that's the size of it really. Lmao.

Security guy at the end when we were all looking for setlists was amusing though :P
Jemma asked him for Brian's "I AM A LEGEND" sign, and he was like "that's more than my life's worth, and the Dykeenies aren't worth that!" And Jemma was all ":O YES THEY ARE!!!" and he said something like "here today, gone tomorrow" haha get to fuck! The Dykeenies are all kinds of awesome, I would so lay down my life for them. :P OH aye and Brian had pretty much danced all over his setlist, so I decided I wanted it, when I asked the guy he was like "you want THAT one that's all soaking?!" "AYE!!!" So I got it, fuckyes. It was all covered in beer or something/Brian's sweat? :P Haha. But also Brian's footprints all over it so I wasn't complaining. LOL Jemma "My birthday's coming up soon..." LOLLLL. I have 2 now anyway, I might try and get another one that's squeaky clean XD Then let others such as Jemma get them.
Anyway on the way out we came to the conclusion that Dykeenies are gonna be huge, which I think they are, it kind of makes me sad though 'cause I'm quite elitist that way about the fans xP but whatever, they're good guys and they deserve it.

Quite shite but anyway:

Fit aye?

Jemma and I've decided we're going to every Dykeenies gig ever in Glasgow XD And also that we're hopefully gonna follow them round the country if they tour during school holidays. Which they'd better do. And that Brian is going to marry me, but we'll share him anyway so it's all good.

EEE. Love this band.
Blondie post tomorrow after work as I can't, quite frankly, be arsed now, it won't be that big anyway but all I can really say is - you can't really compare these two gigs, it's quite bizarre how different they both were, but they were both amazing in their own ways. Yeah.

*sigh* I wish it was Monday again.

Thanks for reading if you did. xD
::Kat:: xx ♥

There's a difference, what you have and what you leave behind

Yesterday was pretty legendary to say the least.

The Dykeenies instore gig + signing, HMV, 9/7/07

I got into town to meet Jemma (thejemmas) at about 3-ish, and well - I'm gonna cut down on the beforehand detail so that I can get onto the more exciting stuff :P We went a wee wander round about chatting and stuff whilst keeping an eye on the queue (which was non-existant till we came out of M&S and saw it at 4.30)

In The Queue
We got to HMV and there I spotted Amanda whom was right behind me in the queue for the QMU gig, it was her 16th birthday, and she let us jump in with her and her pals right at the very front XD Haha get in. There we sat on the ground eating chocolate and drinking disgusting cheap M&S Cola, laughing at how much we were getting stared at/asked why we were queueing :P Jemma seemed incredibly excited at the prospect of Brian recognising me and coming over to speak to me lmao. We observed that there were some pretty young folk there, like 14 and stuff, I heard one of the security guards going "ach, it's aw gonnae be wee kids" O_O LOLZ. At some point they decided to make us all stand up for some reason, lol, and after plenty lol'ing and reminiscing about stalking times gone by and "what can I say to Brian that'll make him laugh?" we saw John and Brian walking towards HMV :P ("it's just across from Primark, how fitting" XD) and by the time they just walked past and into the shop I was already shaking like a fangirly wee leaf. Jemma was like "Now I've seen him in the flesh I can see why you love him so much" haha XD And then we squeed over his trousers; he had braces on and he had red and blue patches on his back pockets!! EEE @ him. Hehe. More Dykeenie spotting ensued - we saw Andy and admired his shoes (alittlelost he was looking pretty damn fine I tell ye!) and a wee while later Alan.. only one we didn't see round about was Steven. But we did see other Stephen lol, as in John's wee brother, going in and buying several copies of the single :P Amusement. Anyhow, they opened the wee thing at the front and it ended up being a mad dash to get a good spot :| Lots of pushing and shoving lol. We got a pretty good spot behind some wee kids :P And we also got Dykeenies ♥ Me bags bwahahah. Calum got one as well LOLZ "manly isn't it?"

Acoustic Set
The Dykeenies came out to a mahoosive crowd (who knew so many folk could fit in HMV?! LOLLZZ) and from then on out it was some good old banter and such. When they came out Brian smiled at me(!) and I had another spazz at Jemma... LOLZ..

Brian: Hiya, we're The Fratellis. Naw, not really, my hair's no' big enough. *points at Calum* His is but!

XD
They played a five song set consisting of:
Pick You Up: This was gorgeous as per usual, it works so well both acoustically and as a near dance anthem :P Haha. I knew at this point though that it was going to be quite amazing.
New Ideas: OMG THEY DID THE FUCKING HANDCLAPS!!! I suppose its not New Ideas without the handclaps really but I hardly expected them to do it like that :P Was legendary.
Things You Cannot See: Wasn't expecting this one! Pleasant surprise though. Brilliant stuff. :] The guys did this so well, you had to be there really.
Waiting For Go: Possibly a highlight, this was amazing, Brian's voice was absolutely STUNNING on it, no joke. He sort of sang it with restrained vocals (rrr) until like the last chorus when he belted it out, and it was sososo good.
Clean Up Your Eyes: Sounds a lot different acoustically to on record, but it works really well, aw man this might've even been better than Waiting For Go. The "do-do-do-doo-do-ooo-do-do-doooo"s at the end were especially amazing. Myself and Jemma indulged in some singing afterwards :P

LOTS OF BANTER!
•Brian: Who was at T in the Park yesterday?! Aye we all got a bit drunk, John only just got home this morning. *points at Calum* I saw him there, right doon the front, was quality!
•Brian: This one's called Waiting For Go... it's the acoustic version by the way!
•Andy: We're gonna be signing some CDs and stuff after this... not ours though, we're just gonna pick up random ones from the racks and sign them for ye!
•Lol Brian and his little debate with Amanda was amusing :P
•Brian: This is, no surprises, our new song that's out today... Mr Brightside. Naww, I've used that one too many times now

LOTS OF EYE CONTACT ALSO. Jemma didn't like the idea that you could be seen singing all the words but there's something about that I quite like for some reason :P And I was glad that when I asked Jemma if she'd noticed that Brian's zip was down, she said yes.

LOTS OF PICTURESSSSS (got some pretty good ones)

John, Brian, and the woman infront of me's hair

Them two again with Andy loitering lolzz

I like this one

:D

Steven and his shades indoor look ftw (H) as well as Jemma's brother's shirt lolllll

EEEE

Brian/Andy/Alan (aww the Hendersons!!! Even though it was only an acoustic set, they were absolutely fantastic. <3
:D

Signing
We went to try and queue for the signing after this only to be told to stay where we were. LOL. Jemma and I had a wee bit of a sing-song lolzz and I looked up and over at where Brian was, aaand he caught my eye and gave me the thumbs up and I grinned at him and he grinned back XD AHH SO IN THERE. And yet again Jemma had to endure my fangirling. She loves it really. Anyway we saw all these folk walking round to queue so we followed them only to realise we were in the very last of the three queues :| And that the queue was going slow as fuck so we'd take ages to get there x__X LOL. We discussed the neddish-ness of some of the people that had turned up and how fucking depressing it was (it REALLY was :S) and then as the queue started going down we noticed Stephen cut across into the other queue, so we and several others followed suit :P Lmao, we found it quite amusing Stephen was getting stuff signed "he could get them signed over dinner". Haha. So the queue started to go a bit quicker at this point and we got told to take the CDs/vinyl out and just get the actual things signed because the pens would smudge on the covers, so... we felt pwoper cool 'cause we couldn't see anyone round about us with vinyl except us, 'cause we actually rock. LOLLL at the security guy trying to bump Jemma's. Anyway the table was so fucking cramped, God knows how they all managed to fit, they were practically sitting on top of one another lol(!). We were getting ushered round the table really quickly so we never exactly really got to say much x__X John looked up at me and I tried to fight the urge to laugh but.. I failed. So I was almost at the end of the table when I thought I'd try and be funny...

Me: Eh, Brian... I was wondering if you wouldn't mind signing.. *pulls top down a bit*
Brian: ...O_O *eyes light up* Oh, do you want me to sign up there?!
Me: *thinks* ...Aaaye, go on then!
Brian: *signs my chest* Quality!
Andy: THIS IS A FAMILY STORE!!! *cue everyone cracking up*
Me: Thanks a lot, byeee! *takes my vinyl etc*
And just as we turned round to leave we hear them all laughing and
Brian: THAT WAS QUALITY!

Post-instore
LMFAO :D So Jemma + I made our way out of the shop completely dying of lolz, everyone totally staring at us yet again :P 'Cause we're that cool. XDDD
We got out of the shop and got made to sign this mailing list so we could get some badgessss which was good 'cause I'd lost all mine from last time.
Randomer: D'you want naked badges or ones with bookmarks?
It took ages to actually register what he meant by 'naked badges' lmao and I was thinking WTF. He ended up giving me bookmarked ones. Jemma got some as well. As it was only coming up 7pm we decided to loiter around and see if we could see the band 'cause well we had nothing better to do and didn't really want to go home yet :P
We then saw Amanda again and I showed her my chest which amused her to a great extent, she took this picture of it for me:

Haha. NEVER WASHING IT AGAIN. So she stood and talked to us with her friend Kirstin who had this strange... cuddly thing.. with a Dykeenies badge on it. She was going around asking everyone if they thought it was cute or scary. The majority said scary. xD
Then this random came up to us and asked why we looked so pissed off, and we were like... we're not pissed off. x_X And he asked "are you pissed off now I've turned up?" ...
Me: Maybe...
Random: :( Okay.. I'll go now..
Me: *feels bad* Oh no I was joking, I didn't MEAN to hurt your feelings (lol)
Random: Okay...
So he asked us if we wanted to go to a free gig at 13th Note, Jemma snapped at him when he tried to tell her where it was :P Lmao. His band were from London and called "Death Can Dance" apparently... lolz.. to tempt us he told us they were like "The Dykeenies on smack.."
Jemma: I don't think the Dykeenies need smack anyway!
Lmao.
So we hung about and eventually John came out and everyone was like O_O watching him 'cause he just buggered off :P Quite funny. And this wee kid was like "Hi John!" And we were all AWWWW XD
Haha so Alan and Andy both came out and were getting pictures with folk, then Steven came out and when we saw Brian we decided to go and harrass him lol.
So when we were kinda muscling in:
Brian: Hiya.
Me: Helloo
Brian: *points at chest* Looking good.
Me: Haha, I know. *asks for a photo*
Brian: Ayeee nae bother
Me: Cheers *whilst clinging onto the bloke for dear life* Oh! I've also to tell you that if you don't play Stoke on your next tour you're gonna get raped by a guy from Crewe...
Brian: *looks confused* ...what's Stoke?
I thought he was taking the piss and started laughing, but then when I realised he WASN'T
Me: Stoke-on-trent!
Brian: Oh right..
What a fucking embarrassment lol.

Brian + I. XD

Anyway that was that and we stood about and waited for everyone else to go... there were all these really fucking annoying fangirls there asking for a photo then buggering off without talking to the poor boy or some of them not even saying thanks, it was really irritating. Some of them were actually just unbelievable though...

"Can I get a photo for Bebo?"
LMFAO. What a wanker. Brian was just like "...whaaat?" LOLLL.
We were just totally taking the piss though, I mean wtf
Jemma: Oohhh can I get a photo for MySpace!
Me: Yess! Let's get one for Facebook, and one to put in my Livejournal, and ooooo let's get one for last.fm as well!
Seriously though, what about getting a picture... y'know, just for getting a picture's sake if you get me? Not SPECIFICALLY for fucking Bebo! *shakes head*

Steven was about to leave and seemed HIGHLY amused at Brian being mobbed by all these girls and was like "See ye later Brian!" and he was well lol'ing. Amusement.

It got to the stage where every time someone asked for a photo I started laughing, and we laughed a bit too loud at one point, but Brian smiled at us anyway :P See. Loves us. Made a twunt of myself though when I decided to ask him about the patches on his jeans and whether he'd bought them like that or he'd done it himself 'cause I started stuttering really badly and was just kinda pointing at his arse, lmfao. He told us he did it himself and I'm just like "...eh...good work!" x__X LOL. Idiot. We are so doing that to all our jeans now though, 'cause that fucking rocked.

Oh yeah and this other girl
"This is the third time I've spoken to you!"
At which point we completely fucking cracked up.
Brian: Really?? o_o
Fucking. Hilarious. WTF? Who actually mentions stuff like that, I mean if he remembers you fair enough but who's going to go up and say "HI REMEMBER ME", you just make yourself look like an idiot especially if they don't remember you lolol, brings back Babyshambles memories except this was just funnier. I can just imagine Brian was like "...." Thing is it's probably only gonna get worse 'cause I reckon they're gonna be pretty successful :|

Eventually the last of the stragglers buggered off and it was just us and Brian left.
Brian: So what are yous up to now?
We were telling him about the free gig we'd been invited to and how they supposedly sounded like the Dykeenies on smack, that they were from "London" and had "some stupid English name" and that one way to get people to come to your gigs was to steal fans from another, and we managed to make him laugh so it was all good.
Brian: I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to go, 'cause the bus is *gestures* away round the back, so...
Us: Okay, see you Thursday!
Brian: Aye, see you Thursday. Take care until then!
Us: Shall do, byeee!
Brian: See you!

:D:D EEE.
So we headed down in the direction of the train station rambling about how adorable he actually is. Marriage = most certainly on the cards aye?
Jemma: Today has been so worth it just for five seconds of banter with Brian!

We spotted Calum and Lisa in McDonald's so to kill some time we went and sat with them for a while and talked to them, which was relatively amusing. I can hardly remember any of what was actually said in there now haha. Calum did tell us about how he'd seen a poster for the Gipsy Kings, which was lolz. Anyway we had some laughs in there and then decided to head off home, Calum and Lisa went for the bus and we went and got some juice and came back to the station. By this point we were all excited about Thursday, made arrangements and disappeared for our trains. Found out mine had been bloody cancelled so I had 40 minutes to wait for my next one, grr, but I didn't mind all that much 'cause well, it was worth it just for the day I'd had.

Best day I've had in quite a while. I really do love this band more than anything, ever EVER EVER. *sigh* I've probably forgotten a lot of stuff so I'll edit it in later if I have :P

PS. We saw Brian's mum! Lol (well, Andy + Alan's too obv.) They don't look anything alike :|

::Kat:: xx ♥

This can't go on, so I should just regret it

Maxïmo Park/Art Brut<s>/Cougar</s>, Glasgow Barrowland, 5th May 2007

Yet another amazing gig of the Geordies' I attended: 5th time seeing them, and this might've been the best time yet. Although, I do miss Paul's tighter trousers and more varied dress sense onstage, but that's completely immaterial. And it wasn't just the music that made the day. The people and the banter once again made it so so memorable, just like September of last year. Seriously, it is so worth getting there 7 hours before doors opening purely for the laughs. Besides, it's the only time pretty much we all get to see one another. Thank God for Maxïmo gigs on Saturdays. ANYWAY, let's cut the crap and on with the (stupidly-detailed xD) review...

Pre-show
I got up at stupid o'clock to get in, spending most of the morning being ridiculously chirpy on the phone to Maysie ("MORNING!!!" "God, you do sound excited" lolz), so I'd be there for 12. Managed to get away with a really cheap train fare :P And when I got in, went to Tickets Scotland then to Avalanche briefly to pick up the Melody Maker compilation I'd seen for Maysie, and have a look to see if I could grab something for Art Brut to sign should I meet them. There wasn't even a copy of their album ffs! BUT I did find a promo copy of it, and bought it anyway. It was something, even though I was scared incase they'd be all "where/how did you get this?!" lol. Sat down outside Buchanan Street subway and quickly scrawled the rest of the letter I'd written to Paul before powerwalking up to the Barrowlands: it was all sunny and I just felt really happy and excited in anticipation of the day ahead. Infact I went the stupid way when I came out of Avalanche behind George Square and almost got lost xD On my way up also these neds tried to muscle in o_O
Ned: Awrite darlin' *touches shoulder and looks me up and down* Wher ye gawin'?
Me: O______________________O *POWERWALKS*
Ack, boys totally repulse me.
Anyway.
I arrived up at the Barrowlands at around 10 past 12, not knowing what to expect/who'd be there before me since all of us were planning on being there at roughly 12, however I got up there and saw only Calum standing outside with some strange looking guy with glasses and I was secretly hoping "...I hope they're not together" haha. And immediately I spotted Archis standing at the side of the pavement talking to some blokes, (having his obligatory cigarette of course), thinking how good timing it really was. Calum informed me that I'd missed Lukas by about 10 minutes, to which I was not all that impressed, then he introduced me to Brian (lol) the bus driver's son. He buggered off and we decided to, in the words of Calum, "storm him". Lol. Calum got him to sign the surprise birthday card he'd bought for Lisa which he was gonna get all of Maxïmo to sign (awwww) and I got out my Coast Is Always Changing vinyl. The other guys buggered off and Calum chatted away quite the thing to Archis who was trying to get his nicotine fix before he went in since he couldn't smoke inside :PP He asked if he was looking forward to the gig which he assured us he most certainly was, and proceeded to tell us just how much he loves Glasgow. :DDD Calum kept him talking for ages anyway about one thing and another, about the new album, other gigs they'd played, and such. I asked him whether the new record had been received well on tour so far, and he said it had for the most part, once or twice it hadn't always gone down as well but that was to be expected. He was telling us that he used to be in a band with Duncan who were "shite", but then Duncan told him about his new project Maxïmo Park and it went from there. Ahahah, and I asked him who sung the original demo of Limassol and I have official confirmation now that it is infact Archis who sings on it! He also told us about how much he prefers the sound of the new record - "it's 12 solid songs, I like the sound of it a lot better" and I agreed with him and told him I enjoy the style of it more. So after he'd chatted to us for a bit and told us that he'd like to move to Glasgow... OH! And that there were Glasgow bands apparently turning up to the aftershow that night:
Calum: By any chance are the Dykeenies going?!
Archis: I really couldn't tell you, but I know that Franz Ferdinand and the 1990s are going...
Me: *tries not to fly into a complete rage at being unable to go, secretly gutted*
Yes, after that he went indoors as he was going to watch the Old Firm match apparently :P

There was then the guy right outside the pub looking for 'coppers'. This guy ended up giving him a can of lager, and he was still looking for coppers and drink. Calum took this oppurtunity to change about Maxïmo lyrics. Most of his hilarious creations I can no longer remember but the ones I can...

"I know you'll be fi-ine, now you've got some wiiiiiiine!" (lol 'begging across fae the shop')

"I'll do graffiti if you give me 20p!"

...that's actually it, I'll edit if they come back to me though.

Soon though, this.. interesting character with a fag hanging out of his mouth comes up to us and starts staring at me, and blowing smoke right in my face :| He started talking and asking us things, and because I had my phone out and was halfway through sending Maysie a text about meeting Archis he started shouting going "DONT YOU DARE TAKE A PHOTO EH ME! DONT EVER!" and I'm like "I'm not, don't worry!!!!" O_O
He asked Calum all the usual crap, who was playing...
Calum: Maxïmo Park
Old man: Are they heavy?
Calum: No, they're kind of... catchy
Old man: Catchy? What the hell dae ye mean by catchy?
Calum: Like.. you can sing along to
Old man: And they're fae Newcastle? *starts talking about Northumbria*
Ahahaha then there came the killer line of

"Where huv ah been? Ah cannae tell ye! Whit've ah seen? Ye widnae want tae know! The one thing ah'm afraid of... is the NEUTRON BOMB!!!" before he walked off. O_O

Lmao. He was actually terrifying.
So, it was at this point after his departure that Calum endured what must've seemed like endless ranting about a certain somebody on my part, which I really must apologise for once more 'cause I didn't think I was gonna be able to shut myself up. Anyway all was good. Lol "geordie rage". And then Calum's ingenius idea to use the bag he had his lunch in as a seat XDD

Soon Lisa and her friends Lou and Leigh (lol I didn't realise there were so many L's) arrived, which was cool
Calum: Did yous enjoy not meeting Lukas and Archis then?
Haha. And it was actually hilarious when Lou was talking about something
Calum: Is that your actual voice?
Lmao :/ She looked so unimpressed. Quite mean actually xD But amusing.

A wee while later the wonderful Shona (_lady_eowyn_) and Lynsey (xfakesoundx) arrived and there was lots of hugging and such. Lynsey proceeded to tell me she'd forgotten my CDs (doesn't matter btw, it's cool!) xD And after lots of talking and reminiscing about Maxïmo Day #1, we spied Duncan who stopped to talk to us! First thing I noticed was his Life Without Buildings t-shirt, to which I yelled in the middle of someone's conversation "I LIKE THE T-SHIRT!" LOL. :D I can't get over how smiley Duncan actually is, he's always got a smile on his face, you just have to love him. And he seemed to find it apt/amusing that I was wearing a green cardigan standing next to Lynsey with her blue jacket on, on the day of the Celtic/Rangers match lolzz.

Lisa and her friends left for a bit at that, we hung about for the banter obvs :P Haha. There appeared some strange characters, the sheer number of folk asking "who's playing the night?" was absolutely ridiculous! We discovered that Celtic had been beaten 2-0... you actually wouldn't have gathered that from the riotous noise coming from the Celtic pub next door hahaha. Loads of folk came out of that pub, absolutely pissed and hung about there for hours fucksake. Someone's black bra made an appearance, we couldn't shift it for the entire day.

The Rab C. Nesbitt lookalike was hilarious :P AND THE WOMAN THAT WALKED PAST CALUM SINGING CHELSEA DAGGER! LMAO.
This guy who looked like he belonged in a band spent the entire fucking day hanging around at the entrance smoking, and just randomly walking around! He'd been there since probably way before my arrival and every 5 minutes I fucking saw him, he absolutely drove me mental as I think everyone guessed. I think it was about this time as well that after muchos bitching Sam, Nat and Anna all turned up..

What else? Me being appalled at this boy who looked no older than about 12 smoking. These two (quite chubby) boys with Celtic tops on walking past, one of them staring at me and Lynsey and going "'THE FUCK YE LOOKIN' IT?!" lmao. This random guy with a black vest and greasy hair waddling past to mine and Sho's amusement. Jesus I can't even remember half of it. "MAXWELL PARK???"

LMAO OH MY GOD. This woman who came out of the pub and we were all sitting lined up against the wall.
"Excuse me, huv yous goat any acid?"
Cue us all practically cracking up and Calum trying to keep a straight face whilst talking to her.
"Aw, I thought yees might huv some, sorry"
Thanks for the reassurance. So we all look like junkies apparently. Great... seriously couldn't stop laughing at some of these folk but.

Anyway, Calum was so kind as to go and get us juice and chocolate from the shop, so we were yabbering away quite the thing when I turned round and we spotted Paul walking past to go into the venue, I went ":O" and gasped a bit TOO loudly lol, and he waved and smiled and was all "Hello!" to us. Lynsey started cracking up and it was then that I spotted the hideous white tracksuit bottoms I'd been saying that I was hoping I wouldn't have the joy of getting to see... lmao. We also saw the infamous Rebecca *ahem* :D So he went in and we were discussing how we wanted them to come back out so we could get decent pictures... Tom followed him in shortly after. We heard them soundchecking briefly, we heard "Girls who Play Guitars" and I could've sworn I heard "500 Miles", but I couldn't be certain and forgot about it. Calum was gutted when he got back but :P

Then, possibly the fucking funniest moment of the entire day, this guy with a blue carrier bag stood right across from us bent double as though he didn't want us to see what he was taking out of the bag. We were all lol'ing at him anyway, just 'cause... and a couple of minutes later all we see is a ton of juice pouring out of it and the man extracting a fucking MELON. A BLOODY MELON.
Calum: That wasn't quite what I was expecting him to bring out of that bag...
Lmao! That was completely random, and absolutely hysterical, we were in stitches for ages at that.

A wee bit later we saw Lukas come out of the venue, whilst there was some drunken carry-on going on outside of the pub, and he also said "hello" to us, and he wandered off somewhere. He had to swerve to avoid the drunks haha, we were all a bit concerned for his welfare, especially when he didn't return. :| LOL.

Lisa and co. came back a wee bit later and were a bit gutted they'd missed them, but yeah. We told them how much of a laugh we'd had while they were away, and they were all very puzzled by the fact we all went into hysterics at the mere mention of "melon". Amusement. However they didn't have to wait too long to get their own share, when this woman came up to us all asking who were waiting for.
"Maxïmo Park."
"Och, ah don't know them. Yees heard eh Van Morrison?"
Lmao. So basically we got the story of how stunning her man was (which he bloody well wasn't btw) and how her son or something said he looks like Roy Cropper from Coronation Street without the glasses (which he did btw). She was also VERY fond of Calum's hair which was rather lolz, and my God Christ knows what she was even talking about, she sat down next to us and started rambling "aye, the wan o' the thingy, wae the thingy, and there wis a lamppost!" LMAO. She kept shouting at him "EDDIE!" lol his name was Eddie Harkins, and 'cause we'd just been talking about Eddie Argos everyone kept mixing up the names which was a lol. Poor Lisa and her sore knee got the full weight of her when she was trying to stand up as well "Och, I need a vodka. Wait, whit am a talkin' aboot, I don't even drink vodka, I drink gin!"

After muchos more laughter these guys came over and started talking to us about a load of utter shite. They seriously wouldn't fuck off! Lynsey said something to them about being Geordie and they came over to where we were sitting instead ¬__¬ And they didn't seem to grasp that Lyns stays in Stirling and were in awe of how she's travelled all the way from Newcastle for the gig. They also decided that Maxïmo Park were shite and that Arctic Monkeys were so much better...
Bloke: See that song on their new album, 505? Fuckin' brilliant...
Me: It's shite.
Bloke: WHAT?
Me: It's fucking shite.
So, all I achieved by saying that was earning myself the nickname "Green Goblin" which everyone found terribly lolz other than me. Maybe I took it to heart too much XD Then they started shaking hands with us...
Me: See if I get called that one more fuckin' time...
I ended up getting called Sandman or something instead *shrugs* So I gave up, and they actually FINALLY fucked off. Was it them that'd brought the bra right over to us as well?

Me: Someone should pick that up and throw it onstage!
Lyns: Oh NO! God knows how many diseases that's carrying!

Haha. Calum and Shona kept getting attacked by flying carrier bags as well "BAG ATTAAACK!" and consequently caused everybody to flinch at the mere glimpse of a carrier bag after that. We also kept having to wipe fag ash off each other XDD Anyway, if I remember anything I've excluded I'll edit with it later, there was so much good banter I'm bound to've left some of the best bits out.

The day'd gone in surprisingly quickly, for 6 hours, though I think that last hour in the queue may've been the longest hour of my life :S Lol. Anyway... couldn't get in the bloody venue quickly enough when the doors opened, they searched my bag and when I started legging it up the stairs after EVERYONE else I'd been with had been allowed up, I got shouted at to get my bloody bag searched. I'D ALREADY HAD IT DONE FFS!!! And when I was running upstairs this big bald black guy walked right into me and nearly sent me flying all the way back downstairs ffs!! Finally made it up there...
It was at this point me and Lynsey were whinging about desperately needing the toilet and how the hell were we gonna hold it in when we got crushed?! XD I also realised that I'd eaten nothing but a Mars bar all day and well, there was fuck all could be done about it now.

Cougar
We'd already had a laugh about Cougar, Paul and his obscure music taste (I'd heard all about Wolf Eyes earlier on off Lyns and Sho, and now that I've visited the MySpace I can officially confirm is fucking WANK) when we saw all the instruments and... oh God, we'd seen them wandering about all day and the guy with that hat XDD The words "This is going to be the longest set of my life" summed it up pretty perfectly. Sorry, but I couldn't stop lol'ing. "We may or may not have a special guest for this next song..." And see when Paul joined them onstage for one song to shake some rattly thing? Christ, I couldn't stop grinning like an idiot. He was SO into it as well, bless his heart. What a fucking dork! XD Ultimately I have really fuck all to say about this band so the sooner I shut up about them the quicker I can get on to talking about the good stuff...

Art Brut
Being quite the fan of Art Brut I was really excited about seeing them live. I'd heard you have to see them live to understand them, to be honest you really do. Eddie Argos is amazing. XD The minute he came onstage he took off his shoes lol. I enjoyed them very muchos, they were a much more appropriate support act than the preceding Cougar. So, they played...
Formed A Band
Bad Weekend (set highlight kthx! we all got told that it's our duty as Glasgow folk to form a band, as look at all the good Scottish bands we have: Belle & Sebastian, Bis, blah blah... :D)
Pump up the Volume
My Little Brother (legendary - MAYSIE WOULDN'T ANSWER HER FUCKING PHONE! >O)
Modern Art (however she did answer during this one! this one was fantastic)
Direct Hit
Moving to LA (I wasn't expecting this one, it was surprisingly good though! and I thought Eddie was actually gonna have his shirt off :|)
Emily Kane (BEST song of the set I tell ye! lol. Good old Eddie and his sound advice. "If you're not with someone, you're not meant to be with them" and all that... lol at how he managed to include Jay-Z though :S)
Nag Nag Nag Nag
Good Weekend except mashed it up with Top of the Pops. COUGAR! TOP OF THE POPS! URUSEI YATSURA! TOP OF THE POPS! THE YUMMY FUR! TOP OF THE POPS! <3333333
After that to be honest I was thinking.... roll on June 16th.
And eh, I could tell you all that in the exact order 'cause I am infact the proud owner of a setlist (H)

Maxïmo Park
I really couldn't wait for Maxïmo, neither could Lyns lol "I'm just getting impatient now". They came on pretty sharpish, like 9.15pm, we'd all been spying on the setlist and had made out Graffiti and Girls Who Play Guitars to be the first two songs. All in all I believe they played 20??? Wow. It was absolutely WONDERFUL though. I can't remember the exact order 'cause I didn't GET a setlist... but I know what they played. So:
Graffiti - was absolutely mental, as can be expected.
Girls Who Play Guitars - it's good hearing this live and actually knowing it now.
The Coast Is Always Changing - stunning :) "it won't be long before you've gone, i can't imagine leaving." so early in the set, it still seemed too apt. i was a bit all D: nooo come back.
Russian Literature - this song is fucking brilliant live, and on record. one of their strongest ever. and, it got dedicated to Lisa for her 17th birthday, which we all AWWWWWED at.
Now I'm All Over The Shop
A Fortnight's Time - haaaa. even though it's not as good on record its still fucking amazing live! it's so fun singing "would you like to go on a date with me" in a ridiculous geordie accent! AND! during this Smiffy pointed at us 3 (me, Shona, Lyns) at the 'paradigm of womankind' bit. no, i wasn't just imagining it...
Our Velocity - i couldn't hear Paul for everyone else singing along to this.
By The Monument - again although i'm not as into the album version as much (which is a shame as I've loved this from the moment I heard it, though it IS growing!) this never fails to touch.
Nosebleed - i tried to call Coleen during this but she didnae pick up >:O excellent.
Parisian Skies - the minute that Paul said "this one's for Becca" i knew it was going to be this. i was actually elated though, i was desperate for them to play this, and it's absolutely wonderful. Paul's voice during this one was completely divine, especially at the "oooooooo" bits. so powerful.
Postcard of a Painting - i'm really glad they played this :D so glad. one of my favourites off a certain trigger and haven't heard it since last september. "picture me with you, but you couldn't do ittt"
Books From Boxes - i can't even explain the sheer rush i felt when i heard this one starting. made all the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, spine tingling stuff. beautiful. almost wasted by the sweaty drunk guy behind me singing all the words right in my fucking ear! i'd managed to shrug him off by the first chorus though. highlight.
Apply Some Pressure - i phoned maysie during this one. i'd forgotten to call her during our velocity just 'cause of the sheer mentalness of the whole affair. fucking out of this world though. this night really brought a certain trigger back to me, i've hardly listened to it at all of late but hearing it live (yet again) reminded me just how much i love it.
Your Urge - "since it seems to be dedication hour, this one's for a wonderful band called life without buildings". yes, i was the only one who cheered. ironic since i would've known nothing of 'em if it weren't for the park XD but anyway. but when i found out it was your urge? i think it made my life. screamed maybe a bit too much. the song was STUNNING live though. i thought i was going to cry infact, but i didn't. i was incredibly chuffed we got this one though, since they sometimes swap it about for karaoke plays (thank FUCK they didn't!) gets right under your skin, this one.
The Night I Lost My Head - mental, what can i say.
The Unshockable - i absolutely adore this, even more so now.
Going Missing - it was fucking amazing. seriously. at points during the set, although to be honest they're a band you can barely take your eyes off of, i didn't watch them, i just looked at the ceiling or shut my eyes and listened to them: i can't even explain it, they're a band that just touch me so much. re-reading that sounds dodgy but in all seriousness.
---
At this point right before the encore - I'd seen Archis watching me at various points during the show which creeped me out a bit in itself - he chucked a bottle of water whilst looking directly at ME, as though meaning for me to get it, and threw it just far enough for me to catch it! AYEEE. *proud owner of Maxïmo water* And no, I haven't drunk it. Behind me also, I heard some girls saying how good it would be if they played their cover of 500 Miles.
---
Kiss You Better - always over far too quickly, this song.
500 Miles - paul brought out his little red book, so i was expecting once a glimpse. "this is a treat for you, or maybe not..." lol. "do you people believe in sacrilege?" us: "WTF?!?!" Paul: "well this is a song by two scottish twins..." and everyone went apeshit. XD first time they've played it live according to paul. really pleased i got to hear this. it was brilliant!
Limassol - and of course, the inevitable closer. this was bursting with energy, i really like how they've chosen to close shows with this song now. it was mental.

I TELL YOU, WE GOT *LOTS* OF PAWL!STOMACH. FULL FRONTAL THANKS. Also, LMFAO at Paul being a dork and nearly smacking himself in the face with the micstand, and later on Lukas throwing it and it just missing Paul, and him being all "HE JUST TRIED TO KILL ME D:" lmao. Hah.
The whole band were actually so energetic though - Archis came down to the front of the stage beside Lukas and Paul REALLY early on, which is not something you see often. Lol also Paul "last time we were here was a concert of epic proportions.. can you live up to it?" Haaaaa. Lukas was fucking TREMENDOUS, really, as always.
Best gig I've been at in a while though, Maxïmo Park are fucking amazing live. One of those bands you need to see live to appreciate fully. I can't wait to see them yet again. Whenever that'll be. Maybe at T on the Fringe, or after festival season hopefully.

Lol, Craig the jammy git got the Maxïmo setlist (as well as an Art Brut one fucksake). Quite amusing outside but:
Calum: If you were a real man you'd give that to her, it means more to her than it does you
I lol'd.
Before that Calum suggested me, him, Shona + Lyns meet up at some point during the summer, somewhere that isn't outside a venue for seven hours (although we don't need to stop that tradition xDD) which sounded like a bloody good idea to me. Oui?

Photos
Be warned, some of these are hilarious.

Love this.
<a href="http://photobucket.com"
"Oh, this is taking the fucking PISS!"

THE DYKEENIES ♥

So, Thursday/Friday. I used to be really bad for getting post-gig depression and it stopped, and I haven't had it for ages and ages, but bloody hell I can feel it setting in. Mixed emotions. I don't know why this band have such a firm grip on my heart, but they do. Maybe it's a mixture of things upsetting me, I dunno. Maybe post-everything depression.. the fact school starts on Monday probably doesn't help. But, yes.

Stupidly long and ridiculously detailed, as normal.

Thursday

Woke up stupidly early despite having had very little sleep, 'cause I heard the post coming. When I went downstairs and opened the parcel to find not only my CD + Vinyl copies of New Ideas, but the signed poster (!!!djklfaksdjfdksf)... I spazzed. Lol, I phoned my mum. I needed to spazz at somebody, dammit. As I came back upstairs and put the b-side of the vinyl, Layers, on repeat, I felt ecstatic - I just knew this was the start of something great for the next couple of days. The Dy-fucking-Keenies, the band I never shut up about. Seeing them twice within two days, albeit that one was only an acoustic set. Like I said, I've no idea why I love them quite so much as I do, but that's how it is. Excitement.

Was almost late for my hair appointment in all the hyper-ness, came out of the hairdressers about 12.40pm, when I saw Kim getting a lift up to the station, so I got in and went up as well. On the train we were hyper, as well as it being a spazzy-as-fuck day for me anyway it was made even better by the fact that Kim was coming, we've not gone out anywhere together for ages due to work and various commitments like that. We arrived in Glasvegas some point after 2pm, I was going to go buy a ticket for Art Brut (aye, I might want to hurry up and buy it while I still have a wee bit cash) but at that point my mum phoned to say she was in Glasgow too and that she'd take us for a coffee lol. So that we did. Jesus Christ I swear, never in my life have I seen two people get so ridiculously excited over bags and clothes - Kim and my mum should go shopping together, Debenhams was really interesting... lol, so my mum bought us chips and shortbread up at the cafe in there, whilst Kim and I got stared at by some creepy old guys and tried to send pictures via Bluetooth to some random called Marve XD I know, we're easily amused. Kim was all "oh, I cannae wait to go shopping" and we decided we were probably best to leave proper shopping til after the instore 'cause of the times and that. Late night shopping in Glesgae anyway on a Thursday so it'd all worked out quite well. Went in various shops to kill some time, and into Virgin to buy the Scottish only Dykeenies vinyl (turns out I've been cheated by Recordstore.co.uk who've given me the English picture disc which has a different tracklisting listed, but when you play the vinyl it's the same as the Scottish one. what cunts) to get signed at Avalanche, as well as Patrick Wolf, Bloc Party & Klaxons vinyls. Kim decided she was in need of the toilet lol, so we went back into Buchanan Galleries. We stupidly decide to take the lift which wasn't even fucking working, cue me roaring "this is taking the PISS...!" just as I spotted a certain two members of a certain wee band (Brian & Steven, as it happened) on their way down the escalator. I noticed that Steven was looking (most likely due to the fact that I was wearing a t-shirt reading The Dykeenies ♥ Me) and dragged Kim round the other way, knowing full well that they're going to pass us. As Brian approaches, he sees my t-shirt, we're looking at each other, and then...
Me: *EXTREMELY cheerfully* Hi!
Brian: Hiya!
dklfjkdjkfk.
He looked like he was going to stop and talk but me being a tit, just bounded off. Fucking chuffed though. SPOKE TO BRIAN WITHOUT FANGIRLING IN HIS FACE.
Kim: Who the hell was that?
Me: Brian from the Dykeenies!
Kim: Oh was it... bit late is he not?
By the time we'd been to the toilet (it took us ages to find it lmao, even though it's not exactly rocket science) it was nearing 4.30pm, ie a bit later than I'd have liked to be at Avalanche, but however. We went round and when I saw the queue it was a case of ...oh Jesus.
But then, I spotted Calum in the queue. About halfway up. So we just went and jumped in with him.
Told him about my mum's newfound crush on Paul Smith ("haha your mum fancies Paul Smith, that's amazing!") and I TRIED TO PAIR WITH JOHN DYKEENIE VIA BLUETOOTH, but alas no such luck. So after some chatting (consisting mostly of Maxïmo talk, and us telling Kim about Han XDD) and me spotting Brian pointing and hiding in the van, and rumours of the Dykeenies performing outside if they couldn't get everyone inside Avalanche, we were finally to get let in. The fact that it was such a hot day, and that it would obviously be pretty bloody hot and stuffy in a wee tiny shop like that, and the Dykeenies would be playing pretty much sitting on the windowsill, made me think this was all a bit silly. Got in and realising that me and Kim, being midgets, had no chance of seeing fuck all, came "oh, this is taking the piss!" (I think that line has pretty much summed up these two days, really. The number of times I've said it is ridiculous) I clung to the wooden bit with the Full/Half Price CDs, hoping that I'd at least be near, but it wasn't like I could see anyway. Calum stood near the speaker beside all the DVDs and shit, so we went over there too.
Some random guy in denims: KEEP MOVING UP TO THE BACK SO WE CAN GET MORE FOLK IN! KEEP MOVING, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE TALL!
Me: Aye, Calum, that's right, especially if you're tall...
LOL.
As more folk were crammed in I realised that maybe this was the stupidest idea I'd ever had, since EVERYONE was taller than me (I know, it wouldn't be hard, stfu) and then the guy started getting sarcastic with folk
Random guy: KEEP MOVING!! ONE FOOT INFRONT OF THE OTHER, THAT'S RIGHT!
Me: *thinking I was talking quietly to Kim and Calum* Cheek..
Random: *shouting* IT'S NOT CHEEKY, IT'S SENSIBLE!!!
Lmao. Oops.
Eventually the Dykeenies got in somehow or other, and a bit distraught at being unable to see Brian, I just gave up. Brian rambled about how we should "buy the new single from in this very shop, or, you know, your eyes wil fall out and arms will come off", lmao. We got a 5 song long acoustic set, they started with Pick You Up, which made me pleased at being right next to the speaker. One of their strongest songs to be honest. It was lovely, I mouthed every word, this girl infront of Kim was trying to sing along but was singing the wrong words wtf?? I lol'd. Halfway through though I got fucked off and decided if I sat on top of the DVDs I'd be able to see at least something. The top of John's head? Yes. And Brian if I wriggled about a bit. So it was better than nothing. Clean Up Your Eyes which was dedicated to "Kimberley" :P at which point me and Kim looked at each other and spazzed xD Obviously it wasn't my Kim; it was a wee girl, but anyway. I tried to take a video on my phone but just failed, lol. I love this song more and more every time I hear it too. The chorus is lovely, the whole "you breathe in when I breathe out..." then "if you leave now, you leave with a piece of me.." etc. Awww. Then they played Safe, the b-side to New Ideas on the CD, "remember what I said about the single... infact that's written down now, I've just been slipped a note about that, if you don't do that your eyes will fall out of their sockets and your arms'll just... drop off. It doesn't specify times or anything, so.." XD Safe is lovely though, it doesn't really sound like a Dykeenies song at all: it's an acoustic number anyway, but it's different to the rest of their stuff. I like. Ahahah, then came the Oasis cover: "They weren't that big, were they?" "One album" "Aye, they were all indie and cool" lol. "I've been told by this guy here I have to play this or he'll stab out my eyes with pointy ended spoons" and then Calum, in one of those 'before you think about it, it's out of your mouth' type situations shouted "Stab his eyes out!" Lmao :P Brian knows his name, so it's alright ;) lmao. They did Talk Tonight (Calum: "ah, good choice anyway..") which was actually brilliant. And finally, they played New Ideas, once again reminded about our eyes and arms falling off. ("The vinyl is actually exclusive to Scotland, so buy it and go down to England, and rub it in everybody's faces", "Aye, that's what I'm gonnae do") Everyone indulged in a bit of handclapping. It was excellent. There was also a homoerotic statement in there somewhere <s>much to my delight</s> but of course, I can't remember what it was now, can I. Most of the set me and Kim spent lol'ing at certain abusable individuals being nosey and looking through the window :P Like the guy with half a pizza hanging out his mouth, and the creepy guy who looked like he belonged in The Green Mile who stared at me for ages. Mature, yes.

A photo I stole off MySpace from the instore:

So, Calum left while the Dykeenies went out to play for the folk who never got in, and we stayed behind to get my vinyl signed. Cue Kim all "wtf am I meant to do, I don't have anything to get signed" and luckily I had the CD single in my bag, so I gave it to her to make her look like she had some sort of purpose there haha. I couldn't actually believe it when I got all shaky and started getting nervous.I mean… it’s the Dykeenies, they’re not even really that well known, you don’t FANGIRL at them. Ffs. But in my case? It obviously doesn’t work like that does it, lol. So the Dykeenies came back in and were signing things, and the queue started to move. Kim spent the time we waited abusing pretty much everything in the shop, then she went..
Kim: Kat, I hope you realise I’m not going to say a word to any of them..
Me: O_O… well I am.
‘Cause they had the single on a loop instore, I ended up singing along to New Ideas. Looked over at the counter and caught Brian’s eye, and he made a face like “XO” at me lol, and I was well grinning like an idiot xP I totally lose.
Anyway, we eventually reached the counter, where Alan was just standing with his shades on looking slightly gormless haha, despite the fact I’m stood there tapping my vinyl off the top of it waiting on him. Brian noticed, and grinned at me (dljkfjlksdjlf;jklx, askjjksjkhsg.) Anyhoo, it was John to the rescue when he turned to me having been swearing like a trooper over the thin pens not working – also wearing shades…
John: Hiya, how’s it goin’..
Me: Not bad thanks!
John: Aldo, you’ve got your place, you dae it before me…
and so it went on, lol. I was tempted to go “your wee brother’s a legend” but I didn’t bother…
Haha, and just as Andy was signing my vinyl, to my right I hear John (it’s hard not to) going to Kim
John: Now, dae ye want it signed on the front, or the back?
Kim: Eh, the back please
John: Right, I’m gonnae take a chance wae these pens again…
Me + Kim: LOLZ
Kept moving up, catch the end of a conversation the two girls on my right are having with Brian about his signature
Brian: …but my name’s no actually.. Brijsjldkfu
to which we all couldn’t help but lol.
As my vinyl was moving further up the line, I noticed Brian just kinda standing there staring at the counter and I just thought “if I don’t speak to him now, I fucking never will” lol so it was a case of
Me: *staring intently at Brian* I’m seeing you live for the sixth time tomorrow night
Brian: *looks up* Six times? Wow..
Me: Yeah…
Brian: Oh yeah, ‘cause I saw you at Maxïmo Park, right?
Me: Yeah, and I was at Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly too..
Brian: Oh aye. I’ll see you tomorrow night anyway!
Me: Aye… I think yous are amazing.
Brian: Aw, cheers :D
I think that brief conversation may’ve completely made my life. Could he be the first guy from a band I’ve not just spazzed incoherently at? Well.. there was Frost, but that night I was just pissed off. I was proud of myself though! Brian’s absolutely lovely though, in every sense of the word.
Then, Steven didn’t know whose vinyl it was, so I claimed it and bounded off saying “thanks very much, see you!”
Kim came along behind me, and the minute we got out I spazzed at her saying “HE FUCKING REMEMBERED ME FROM MAXIMO PARK!” Ahh. And she was like “yeah, he seemed like the only friendly one of the lot of them, the rest were all just silent” haha “apart from John though..” “he was well rude to me!” “Well he was fine to me…” haha, and so it went on. I called Maysie and told her absolutely everything about Brianstorm :P. After that, I was uncontrollable. Spent the rest of the night there dancing around shops and singing at the top of my voice, I ended up losing my jacket lmao. What a titwank. And I decided I wanted to get a new top for the gig the following night, so I did. When we were done lolzing/shopping we went to McDonald’s for dinner before getting the train home (I won £1 off @ HMV on the Monopoly thing! I also won an apple pie that Kim can have lol). We missed the 19:47 one by a matter of seconds thanks to Kim wanting to buy cookies, so we got the 20:07 back. Kim decided she liked the Dykeenies, and made me send her New Ideas to her phone :P Well good. Yet another convert. Aye, Brian better appreciate it. Never got home till about 9.30pm, and spent the night spazzing at my mum about the whole thing, however little she cared. Went to sleep that night buzzing with excitement about the day fast approaching.

Friday

I was going to go new-job-hunting in the morning, but I ended up getting up too late. D: Irritating. So I had to rush about and get everything ready and in my bag/whatever for the gig at night as well as during the day. Arrived in town about twenty past 1, had a look at Tickets Scotland - GUTTED to find out they had returns for the Bloc Party gig, obviously too short notice for me, especially when I was already getting a lift home from Dykeenies anyway, doubt I'd get one 2 nights running. Such a nice day, Coleen (sailyourships) turned up soon after (why is it that people always catch me by surprise there??) and we just generally wandered all over, 'cause of Coleen's lack of money it was a bit rubbish in shops though. We went round Mono and Mr Ben's (in which there was a gorgeous sailor's jacket for £30) first, and we pretty much had no idea where to go lol, so we went into Debenhams and fucked about with make-up and got pestered when we were trying all the perfume. Coleen tried a plumping lip mask which didn't really do much except burn her haha... and! We tried on loads of wedding hats. Which was great fun. Hah, Coleen and her pimp hat ftw.
After that we met Coleen's friend Dave who was lovely.. he found it amusing that we're both so quiet and bought us hot chocolate which was very nice. :D
We just spent ages wandering around all the unaffordable shops in Princes Square after that, thinking about stealing badges and setting off seagull-squawky things. XDD Hah. Anyway, before I had to go for the tube we ended up looking around in Borders, at some interesting books.. "Make Your Own Sex Toys" and suchlike. Was rather entertaining. Following that Coleen walked me to the station and that was it, I was off to see the Dykeenies. It was lovely to see her again and I dooo hope to see her again soon :]

When I got off the tube I realised that I had like 4 texts, 'cause I don't get a signal on it obviously. Even at the West End it can be difficult to get a signal at all lol. Haha. I saw that two other girls had gotten off and were wearing signed Dykeenies ♥ Me t-shirts. Got there and we were the first there which was pretty damn good, lol unexpected after the previous day's queue :P Hehe. Got talking to them about the instore, I believe one of 'em was called Sarah? And whilst waiting for Craig to turn up found out that she'd commented right after me on the Dykeenies' MySpace XD Haha. Saw John outside having a fag and chatting away as bloody usual. Lol then Craig sent me a text saying he could see me sitting on a step... and just at that, I see Calum coming up the stairs (lol not that you could miss him) with Lisa. And the following conversation ensued..
Me: Oh, so you got tickets then!
Calum: Aye, came up earlier. *blah blah random chatting and that* Have any of the guys been out?
Me: ....well, no.
Calum: Brian was out earlier
Me: *seethes*
Calum: So, where's your man then? ('cause obviously we'd discussed it yesterday lol)
Me: *blinks* Er, I dunno where he is.. apparently he can see me?
Calum: Oh, he's down there..
Me: Ohhh, okay.. *looks and sees him*
Calum: What's his name??
Me: Craig
Calum + Lisa: *shifty eyes at each other*
Lisa: ...is his second name Steele?
Me: Aye..
Calum + Lisa: *start laughing*
Me: *really confused by this point*
Calum: Ah, it's a small world, that's all I'll say... I'll tell you later.
Lol. Like I said, pointless detail.
In the end he came up and alerted me to the fact I sounded like a man 'cause of my cold, lol, then asked me why I'd bothered coming 'cause of it... why would a cold stop me going to a Dykeenies gig??? Heh. If I was on my deathbed, I'd still make sure I got there. 'Cause I'm a bit sad like that.
Anyway there were hardly anybody about for ages, seemed to take a while til doors opened. Heh, lol at the guy who was sitting reading his newspaper. It seemed there were quite a few folk there picking up tickets. By the time there was a queue I had a look to see if I could see Charlotte or that since she'd said she was coming in to try and get tickets.
Lol Craig nicked a poster off the door, tried to get me to put it in my bag, and then this woman comes out and says "can we get our poster back please?" LOL. Nae fucking luck. The 'flash' thing was pretty amusing as well..
"Where did Flash go?"
"He came and went in a flash"
"...that was pathetic"
haha.
Oh, and when we finally got in and had been searched/practically molested this tit of a guy signals that we've to go upstairs like last time at the Rakes lol. So us 2 and this other girl (think it was Sarah's mate actually) go upstairs, nicking posters blah blah blah. It's just us 3, and there's nobody else coming up by the looks of it. After like 5 minutes, we have to run for it 'cause they're letting folk in.
"oh, this is taking the FUCKING PISS!!!"
Well pissed off like, after being first in the queue and that. But it was alright, got in with Calum and Lisa lol. Took me long enough to actually get my space ¬____¬

Anyway, wasn't all that long before first support Arcadian came on. But it seemed like an eternity before they actually went off though, on the contrary. Beforehand I'd been intrigued 'cause of their name, made me think of the Libertines :P but fucking hell. They were so boring. I was tired anyway since I'd been up after not enough sleep and had been walking about all day, but not even being funny they almost sent me to sleep. They were like a poor man's Dykeenies. Couldn't hear a word they were saying either, bit crap.
"Is it just me or was that the same song over and over and over again?"
pretty much summed it up. Calum and Lisa seemed to like them heh, but dunno, they must've seen something in them that I didn't.

Following some further messing about/shouting + swearing/etc Sergeant came on. I'm sorry, but the moment the singer came onstage and started dancing I burst out laughing. He looked like an Arctic Monkeys hybrid. The Scottish lovechild of Turner + Helders maybe? Think it was the hair that made me think of Alex Turner. His dancing made me LOL though. After their first song he told everyone in the front row to smile :/ Maybe if he'd seen what we were seeing from our side of the barrier, he could understand. I preferred them to Arcadian, slightly more interesting/entertaining but they were all ugly, cocky as fuck and the music got a bit tedious after a while. Quite a lot of folk seemed to know their stuff, must've brought all their cronies from Fife along. Hmm. The guy that somehow ended up right behind me was anyway, ie. the fat drunk bloke who was literally breathing down my neck and belly-bouncing me from behind :S his hand ended up tangled in the back of my top somehow, wtf? Singer bloke seemed to find it amusing. Ahahah and they had a stage invader as well. That was quite amusing though. Again the singer was lapping it up lol, he's a tit. And thank God fatdrunk!bloke had moved elsewhere by the end of their set...

In the gaps between bands they kept bloody playing Atlantis To Interzone.. and Banquet as well. OH AYE AHAHAH AND I BET YOU LOOK GOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR CAME ON. I lol'd. Briaaan. Before Dykeenies though Graffiti came on :P Much to our amusement. Sang badly. Calum had to refrain from chopping. Impressive that he did though. Oh yeah, then Lisa told me about earlier on and that she talks to Craig online, and that they'd been talking that morning, eh, haha... small world indeed :P lol, does everybody know each other through the internet? :/ Amusement :P *cough*

Anyway, the Dykeenies FINALLY came on about 9-ish(??) and I hadn't really been bothered about spazzing/being fangirly up till then. But when I saw Brian wearing a red shirt, black tie and braces (as well as hearts drawn on his left cheek), well... I could barely control myself xD lmao. Oh God. So! The setlist..

THE PANIC: You know how I said before about the fact that I'll miss it when it's not just Brian at the beginning any more when the album's out and everybody knows the song? Well, it's starting to go. I heard a few singing it last night, it was a case of sing all you want, but for this one bit, just SHUT THE FUCK UP. XD Ahem. I do love this song though, I really hope they don't ever stop opening shows with it. Songs like this get me ridiculously excited about the prospect of an album, arrrgh. I bet this'll be track 1 as well :P
THINGS YOU CANNOT SEE: It took Calum all this time to realise this is a separate song to The Panic haha. But damn, it's fucking amazing. I'm seriously starting to run out of things to say when reviewing the Dykeenies but really, they get better with every time I see them, although GCWCF was one of the best times I've seen 'em to date. And this gig.
WILL IT HAPPEN TONIGHT: Love how Brian always points folk out during this song :P Yes, I know, BrianBrianBrian. I said I was going off this a bit... I lied XD
PICK YOU UP: Got dedicated to this guy Ross like two folk away from me :P This is fast becoming my favourite Dykeenies song though. It's absolutely wonderful live.
STITCHES: AHHHHH. Right before this song, Brian looked at me, and he said "I'd like to thank everybody that made it along to instores this week", cue cheering, then he pointed right at me (!) and said "this girl here was there yesterday! I seen her there, she made it!" meaning me: GRINNING LIKE A LOONEY. Recognised twice in two days by the Brian? YAAASSS get in. And this song was especially good too. It was gorgeous at this gig, it really stood out for me, even though Brian didn't do his little scratching thing :( But however! If I hadn't been so spazzy about him recognising me, I'd probably have welled up from the sheer gorgeousness. I actually love how he said it right before this song though. 'Cause. Y'know.
CLEAN UP YOUR EYES: "I'd like to dedicate this to Isobel Henderson.. who just so happens to be my mum" AWWW. XD I'm growing to love this more and more as well. It's great knowing at least some of the words to songs most folk there don't :P
LOSE OURSELVES: Lyrically their songs are simple but effective if you get me, and aw, they don't have one bad song in their live set, it's all strong stuff. Another one I look forward to hearing on record. Before this one Brian rambled about how they were going to "bring it down a wee bit, then lift it up again towards the end... see what I did there?" lol.
DEATH TO THE DANCEFLOOR: AGH, FUCKYES. "Sing along if you know it!" Haven't heard this since the Garage gig in December. It was brilliant, really. Still desperate to hear this on record, it's another of their strongest.
WAITING FOR GO: "This is the part of the set where I take a break... and let you sing for me. See, you sing a line, then I join in, wait and see, it'll be beautiful. It's gonna sound brilliant." Haha. And so we did. Bless’im. I love this.
IN & OUT: “Some of you will know this one because you’ve illegally downloaded it *slaps wrist* Tut tut. But a bit of the chorus isn’t there anymore, we’ve changed it, so be warned.” Of course it was excellent, but they’ve taken the best bit of the entire song out. The ‘forget me, forget you, forget us’ bit is gone and replaced by another bit. This genuinely upsets me. However I’ll be interested to hear the new version of it.

Encore: I didn't get my camera out till this time, I wanted to enjoy this gig, God bloody dammit! Meant I had to be quick with the pictures. Ideal though, the encore is about the right time for how long my camera fucking lasts.
SAFE: I took a video of it, thinking 'oh even though we're close as fuck the sound will be alright since it's an acoustic number' then I sang right over the top of it. So it's fucked now. Well done Katty. I know I've said it about 4 times already but this is so un-Dykeenie like, but my God it's gorgeous. Making me well up tonight I tell you. <3 The lyrics are lovely as well.
DARK TIME: I was absolutely ecstatic that at long last I've been able to hear this live. I've been waiting since August for this one! Worth the wait though. Sang my heart out like I had been all night. XD
NEW IDEAS: OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD THIS WAS AMAZING. "If you don't copy me and Steven clapping along to this, well.. you might just end up DYING!!!" lmao. All the folk from the New Ideas video, see with all the massive "Dykeenies ♥ You" and "I've got a wealth of new ideas" signs? They all fucking came on stage XD Lol Brian "...I don't know who these people are". Everybody went fucking apeshit during this as well. It seemed like a really fitting end to the two days. I love this band.

There was also banter during the set such as:
•Andy: *shows off belt* Isn't this the best belt in town! etcetc
Brian: See this belt, it's actually Batman's belt! We saw him outside a shop in Edinburgh the other day, and he turns and says to us "hawl, you guys are shite"... *goes into a story about stealing Batman's belt, lmao* Let's hear it for Batman's belt!
•Oh God, Brian did a repeat of the Garage gig...
"You're never gonna believe this... but I'm sweating. Who believes me? You might see a slight glint over my face? Well, that's sweat."
And lol, to this guy "Whereabouts do you come fae? 'Cause, well... go back." Lmao.

Never got a setlist, gutted. I WILL get a Dykeenies setlist, I am bloody determined.
So got outside, said byeee to Craig, then I saw Charlotte, Scott etc. outside and asked if they'd enjoyed the gig etc, 'cause well, it was good they'd got tickets. Got Calum and Lisa on the tube, lol "Kat, how good ARE the Dykeenies????" haha. Discussed the set and everything. Lost everyone at the station haha. Anyway that was it, got home that night and haven't really thought about much else since. OH! And on the way out I saw Stephen (ie. John's wee brother). In his Dykeenies <3 Me t-shirt :P Bless.

Photographs from Friday night:

I fucking adore this ♥

My ultra-shite video of Safe will come tomorrow.

I've just found out my wee cousin's been taken to hospital 'cause she's not well. My Uncle said on the way home last night that she'd been sick all day, she's got a fever apparently and aching legs. For all the complaining I do about her, I love her to bits and hope she's alright. Anyway, let's not waste this post with emo-ing atm.

This post has taken what seems like an eternity.

I love the Dykeenies. So much. I will miss them till I next see them (I sound lame, I know) but it'll just make the next time that much more exciting.

Swing my way and I will let you pass on through...
::Kat:: xx ♥

<marquee>FRIENDS CUT!!!</marquee>

'Cause I don't talk to tons of you anymore and it's pissing me off, so I'm about to go through my friendslist and take folk off - if you can't see my next update (dunno, I'll probably be updating in a bit) then you're gone and I'd like you to take me off your friends list please. :D It's not that I dislike you, it's that we don't talk/have much in common and it's kind of pointless, so... There are one or two people I'm unsure about but I suspect if I change my mind I'll take them off relatively soon...

The Dykeenies & Maxïmo Park, 31/7/07, Edinburgh Liquid Room

Won tickets to this through XFM Scotland: I didn't care about the details, I heard the words "Dykeenies" and "Maxïmo Park" and eh, I knew I had to go. If it'd just been Maxïmo I probably wouldn't have bothered, but because it was both my favourite bands... couldn't see myself missing it tbh.

Got into Edinburgh about 7, where I saw Calum standing at the head of the queue patiently waiting for me to turn up and give him one of the two spare tickets I had.
"Who else is coming?"
"...my mum."
XD Yeah, so my mum's met Calum now (she had to come 'cause well, I couldn't shift the other tickets. The fools that declined, seriously), something that Maysie says is something of a good thing in that she realises I don't go to gigs and meet complete weirdos. Quite funny. Anyway... he said that I'd probably meet Paul 'cause him and Lukas were still out, but alas no, they didn't come back in time for me to go and scream at them and whatever. Probably a good thing. For all the worrying I'd done about getting in there was actually no trouble whatsoever: someone apparently said it was actually 16+ not 18+. And nobody batted an eyelid... plus there were folk that looked younger than me there. So Kirsty was right, lol.
Hmm, I like gigging in Edinburgh. I want to go to a T on the Fringe show again this year, I have done the previous two years. Hopefully somebody decent will announce a gig at some point soon. 'Cause so far - Kaisers, Foo Fighters, Razorshite. I think I'll pass mate. Kaisers are performing at Meadowbank exactly a year after Muse did... I was at the Corn Exchange seeing the Park that night. :P AND THE DYKEENIES!
Ramble ramble...
Anyway we got in and secured our places at the barrier, and my mum decided to go to the toilet and get a drink. Haha, The Killers' When You Were Young came on. That was actually uncanny. XD "She doesn't know a thing about Paul Smith, but she sure talks a lot of shite" (I found her on last.fm a couple of days back btw, lmao :/ Worst nightmare, I can't escape her). So, we chatted away and stuff, and about 5/10 minutes later my mum comes back and hands me a drink. Just as I take a drink, she comes out with:
"Guess who I just met on the stairs."
"...who?"
"That guy from the Dykeenies..."
"*PROMPTLY CHOKES ON DRINK* WHAT? WHICH ONE??? IT BETTER NOT'VE BEEN MY MAN!"
"He was wearing a neckscarf..."
"*dies* Did he have brown hair and a wee bit of a fringe?"
"Aye. I was just walking up the stairs and he was coming down, and he just smiled at me and I smiled back, then it clicked who it was..."
I SWEAR TO GOD. That is the second time my mum's done that. Remember in August when she fucking saw Brian and his two brothers outside and DIDN'T bother to tell me till we'd left?? ...I hate my mum.
Haha, I kept seeing them walking about and stuff. And spazzing over it, naturally.
There was this right weirdo of a guy standing next to me, lol. On the other side of me, not Calum obviously XD
So, it got to 8pm...

Alright, I admit it, I really do quite like John now. Shut up ¬_¬ He had a Black Parade jacket on, with trousers to match. Hahah, Alan had a Sex Pistols t-shirt on and Andy had one with Bowie on XD And Brian and Steven do just ooze sex, thank you very much. Brian likes his make up I tell yeh.
Same setlist as Sunday night.
THE PANIC: I swear I love this song more and more every time I hear it; now that I've heard it about 4 times I actually know it a bit better now too which helps. Haha. I love how when it starts it's just Brian, and the whole place is just totally silent other than him yelling: that's something I'll miss when they have an album out and everybody knows it, and they stop doing the support slots. I really will. But for now, I can enjoy it. Rrrr, I love this. Just, every time it gets me, when it thunders along and then, it unexpectedly skids to a halt, with Brian's impassioned, delicate "I would die for you". That completely rips me apart every single time, especially Sunday night as I hadn't heard it for a while and I'd forgotten it. I knew it was coming this time. In short, if I could marry a song, it would be The Panic.
THINGS YOU CANNOT SEE: The only complaint I have about The Panic leading into this is that people that don't know think it's one and the same song. Awell, I know better. Caught Brian's eye again! And grinned like idiots at each other during the "falling together, but failing to realise..." bit. And he raised his eyebrows at me, and I lol'd. No, I am not a fangirl, I swear. Haha. I also love how between songs he feigns politeness by calling us "ladies and gents" all the time :P
WILL IT HAPPEN TONIGHT: I'll always remember this as the one that I recognised when I saw them at the Corn Exchange last year, but now to be honest I find it pale in comparison to some of their other songs. Still catchy as fuck though ;)
PICK YOU UP: I seriously am in love with this song. It's so pretty, there really is a fair bit of simplistic beauty in their music. Awww. Brian, marry me please.
STITCHES: I don't have words for this song man, it just completely gets me every time, especially the "make a wish tonight.." bit. It also never ceases to amaze me how every Dykeenies gig I'm at, the same folk are there, fucking ALWAYS. Fiona woman who I see every time had this dedicated to her. Also, vocals on the chorus. Wow, seriously.
CLEAN UP YOUR EYES: Alright, this one IS growing on me now. The "do-do-do-do-doo"s at the end are amazing. Lovely stuff this is.
WAITING FOR GO: This guy quite near me shouted "AW, THIS IS THEIR BEST YIN!" lol. It is so good though. This song's actually pretty damn short though, I noticed how quickly it was over on Saturday night :( Gutted. Meant they were nearly done.
NEW IDEAS: They'd been so quiet banter-wise all night, (well, there was Brian trying to bodypop, but that's another matter entirely) but I died of lolz at "We've got this coming out as our single on April 9th. I'm not trying to promote the single or anything but apparently if you don't buy it, Steven will personally come and cut all your feet off." Lmao. You have to love the handclappyness in this one though! Ahh, they were amazing. Again. As usual. Can't wait for the 13th. I am still majorly disappointed at never having seen Dark Time live yet! Or Feels Like Sleep for that matter, actually... I can't wait to hear Stationary again either. This band are fuckloads better live than they are on record, that is a fact. Think this is the first time I can actually say I'm actually really excited about Friday 13th, haha.

Leading up to Maxïmo Park, I kept seeing the Dykeenies walking about and stuff :P And when Brian was talking to the Fiona woman at the end of the row, he must've seen me staring at him XD Seriously, I am not obsessed.
I was excited by this point, 'cause I haven't seen Maxïmo since September and eh, well. It didn't quite hit that I was gonna be seeing them. Very exciting.
So Dominik Diamond was on talking shite, and then the lights went down and this projector got lowered down (we obviously couldn't fucking see 'cause we were right at the front) lmao, right on top of Calum's head :D Quite funny. They were showing all this XFM wank, so when it finally got taken away again, the band came onstage. Minus Smiffy, naturally. He took ages to come on lol. The band looked spectacularrrr, Paul was wearing ALL black, but his trousers sadly weren't tight enough. Neither had Brian's been actually! I was so gutted. We had already worked out most of the setlist: since we were really close to the stage and the setlist had been put so we could see pretty much the last letter or so of every song. I can't remember the exact order but I think I've got it near enough.

GRAFFITI
GIRLS WHO PLAY GUITARS
NOW I'M ALL OVER THE SHOP
OUR VELOCITY
BOOKS FROM BOXES
RUSSIAN LITERATURE
THE COAST IS ALWAYS CHANGING
BY THE MONUMENT
APPLY SOME PRESSURE
NOSEBLEED
GOING MISSING

I was surprised that I didn't get COMPLETELY killed like I usually do, squashed but nothing like last time I saw the Park XD That was incredible though. Graffiti was fantastic: Paul sang the line "I'm right out of vision" right at me :P Loved Girls Who Play Guitars, the lyrics to that are really great. I liked it to begin with when I first heard it in September but having heard it once or twice since then I wasn't as impressed, I thought it was a bit of a shit I Want You To Stay type number, but it's really not. I was surprised we got Now I'm All Over The Shop as opposed to maybe others off A Certain Trigger (we didn't even get Once, A Glimpse dammit!), but Our Velocity. Jesus Christ it was mental. As soon as Lukas started this one it was mayhem XD I was always looking forward to hearing this one live, big style. God, the guitar! Adored how everyone screamed "And then I tell you some more about... ME!" so loud you couldn't even hear Paul. Set highlight, definitely. I can't help but LOL at Books from Boxes, still, because of that AAA video and the fact alittlelost said something along the lines of "How un-Park-like is that?! XD It sounds like Jack Johnson! And for a moment I thought Duncan WAS Jack Johnson" lmao. And Lukas going on about whether he should put organ over it. But it is genuinely a really good song I think. But Russian Literature? That was absolutely amazing live. Can't wait to hear this one on record, seriously. It's fanfuckingtastic. I've always liked the Fibbers version anyway, alright yeah maybe it is a bit rubbish, but the song's always been endearing to me! The Coast Is Always Changing was excellent too. I think it was before By The Monument that some random shouted at Smiffy? 'Cause yeah I know, we all abuse him for his rambling between songs and stuff, but just in an affectionate way (because we love it really), right? Thought it was a bit ignorant of that guy to shout "WELL COME ON THEN!" at him though. Paul was not impressed I tell ye. By The Monument is a fucking beautiful song though, it always gets me too. Finally hearing the finished version today. God. Nosebleed: I think I can see what people mean by maybe it being a bit too slow (I personally think they could play it a bit faster), but it's still a cracking tune, one of their best I think. And, oh, God. Going Missing hit me like a ton of bricks on Saturday night, it really did. First song I heard by them, first one I really fell in love with, it all just made sense to me then. A Certain Trigger as a whole now completely makes sense to me, and I think it's perfect timing for the new album. Glad I've waited, as it's come at a perfect time I think. I cannot wait to hear this.
And so, the encore -

A FORTNIGHT'S TIME
LIMASSOL

A Fortnight's Time is lovely! Love how we were all doing the actions for "5 x 5 = 25" XD And, Limassol. Blew the place up, pretty much. Absolutely fucking brilliant. I can see why they saved it till the end, it is one of the ones that works so much better live.
What a gig.

Calum went to steal the setlist since he was within reaching distance - he managed to rip it in two. XD
Said goodbyes to Calum and everything, then proceeded to pick up about 10 Dykeenies ♥ Me badges that Brian had thrown into the crowd earlier. Sure, they'd been trampled on and stuff, but yeah, not unwearable. If anybody wants one I'll clean one up for you and send ye it :P
I also finally stole a New Ideas poster! Get in. I was gutted there were none for Our Earthly Pleasures though. Awell.
My mum amused me though, by saying "you're more interested in the bloody Dykeenies than Maxïmo Park! I saw you watching them at the side of the stage when Maxïmo were on!" LOL. She also thinks Paul Smith is gorgeous, and now realises how much passion Paul has for his music, and pretty much why I adore them so. I'm glad she understands now, ffs.

My camera was being a dick, so I didn't get many great ones:

My favourite photo of the night :P

Got better Dykeenies ones than Maxeemo I think.

I lol'd.
<a href="http://photobuc
