Today is the first time since I got back from Tokyo that I'm meeting a human being face to face who isn't a) my husband, b) a student, colleague or shop assistant, or c) mec (Mec snuck in there because I was near where she lived for work.) My offline social life, let me show you it. Unfortunately, I undertook to cook for us. I quite like cooking, but I forgot that it means shopping first. I hate shopping. *sigh* * Ever wanted to know how long it would have taken you to get from Luguvalium to Londinium on a donkey in January? Now you can!Scotland is terra incognita on that map. I'm not sure yet if that makes me go Bwaaahahaha in childish glee (there is ongoing debate about how far the Romans ever got here) or rather sad that I can't calculate the days it would have taken from Allt na h-Airbhe to Auchtermuchty by camel. In May, with midges. * I joined mydramalist. Because I need another outlet for my OCD-ness, another timesink in my life. I have already found and stalked a couple of you who may as yet be unaware of their great fortune. (Hi, rheasilvia! Hi vc_mel)! My main issue is that there's no level between 'average' - which to me is kind of, well normal - and plain out 'bad'. I'm slightly disoriented anyway by a rating system where in a 5-star ranking, 'average' isn't 3 stars but two. That's not what 'average' means, dudes! And so I'm feeling the lack of a grade which means 'below average but probably objectively not irretrievably sucky'. I feel bad calling things sucky which have some redeeming qualities, just not enough to make me think about them without my eyes rolling up in my head and my tongue lolling out of my mouth in a disgusting and undignified fashion. But hey, whatever, I didn't invent the system, so now I'm working on overcoming my scruples and if I hated it, it gets one star, even if in fairness I'd admit the acting of that one actor wasn't all bad, or episode 5 didn't suck as much as the other eight, or the thing as a whole had some very funny moments. Grrrr. HACK. SLASH. WHY DO I EVEN WORRY ABOUT THIS??? This was an awesome trip. Which might explain why despite getting 12 hours of sleep last night, and being pretty efficient this morning, I'm still blinking into the afternoon kind of uncertainly. Like, where am I? Who am I? Where has Kame gone? What has happened to the nice lesbian with the popcorn? Where is my anpan, and why is the internet working in my room? ::blink:: ( People people people )( Kame is DA BOSS )( Partying and karaoke )This is way too tl;dr so I'll stop now, but anyway, it was fabulous, and KAME IS AMAZING! Jury duty, the next hour +8. Return to court at appointed time. Reception deserted. Wander around corridor, encounter other lost juror, get picked up by lady with badge who is carrying a couple of chairs. "Are you more jurors?" Yes, we are. "I'm really sorry, we can't put you in the court yet, we're just putting everybody in a witness room, here are two chairs for you." Uh, thanks. So there we are all sitting in the witness room, together with the witnesses, and somebody tells us that the court is unusuable. Righty-oh. "But they're getting it ready." O-kay. We wait. Thankfully, not long. A lady in robes comes in, very nice, and informs us of the following: - over the weekend, they had workmen doing repairs on the court room. Said workmen left the court room 'in a state', with dust and soot all over, a circumstance which was discovered in the morning. - the court officials called 'cleaners' in. However, what has turned up is a cleaner, singular, and it has transpired that it will take said cleaner all day to get on top of the dust and soot. We are sent home. We are told to call the prerecorded juror's hotline again tonight, to find out whether we are required tomorrow, and at what time. The nice lady promises that the phone will work this time. I would like to trust the nice lady, but am not holding my breath. Why are things like this? Does anybody else have trouble uploading to mediafire? I have some stuff I need to get up there (unfortunately mediafire is very much the preferred host, or I'd just use sendspace or some such), and no matter which of our computers I try, I get almost instant failure, with a report of error 502. I checked out what that means, and found the clearest explanation here. I don't have this problem with other sites, so that would suggest it's an MF problem... but otoh, not many other people seem to have the problem with MF; from what I can see around me, people are uploading to it quite merrily. So, uh. WTF? Anyone?
