I'm still disappointed over missing Dallas  =(  I usually go for a while without thinking about it but it's marked on the calendar so when I see it, I get all sad again.  There's also no way I can go to DragonCon cause we'll be in Wedding Countdown mode by then.  Comic Con is out cause that's when I'll be in Taiwan.  My brother's engagement/wedding is interfering with my fandom plans!!  Wahhhhhh!  

The main reason I looked into going to Dragon Con was because of Gareth David-Lloyd (of Torchwood) is scheduled to appear.  And I made my peace when I discovered the scheduling conflicts.  However, The Rift (a Torchwood convention) has just taken place over in the UK and reading all the reports... now I really want to go, thanks.  GDL was this nervous, shy guy at his first conventions, now he's charisma and lovely and totally giving what he knows the fangirls want to hear.  He said he's read Janto fanfiction!  And his answer to "Who would win in a fight over Captain Jack?  Captain John or Ianto?"  was he didn't think a fight would be necessary.  Instead, it'll be "two Captains with an Ianto-filling".  Oh, just go watch the video snippet here.  *loves*

So yes, this is me, sitting here being all jealous of all the people who will see Jared, Jensen, Gareth and a slew of other people that I would like to see but I can't.  *pouts*

Oh yea, I'm missing David Tennant as Hamlet, too!  And I missed John Barrowman's concerts and his huge list of other appearances on stage, etc!  *pouts harder*

As most of you know, I love slash.  I still can't get into RPS but that's neither here nor there.  However, in most of my fandoms, I ship gen pairings.  Yes, it's true  =)  Where I'm all for the slash is usually when it's canon -- eg Jack/Ennis and Jack/Ianto (Torchwood).  The only time I've ever immediately spotted slash in the non-canon sense was The OC's Seth & Ryan.  I wasn't even into Spike/Angel.  I did wander into the Wincest fandom for a bit but I've lost interest in reading fanfics & such (still enjoy all the slashy bits the boys provide though cause damn, their chemistry is through the roof!).  Being a gen shipper can get frustrating in terms of finding good fic, especially for 2 fandoms in particular.

Firefly.  I was, and still am, all about Mal & Inara.  The sparring and UST and angst and Inara crying alone in Heart of Gold and Mal defending her honour in Shindig etc etc gives me the warm & fuzzies.  But in the fandom -- especially in regards to fanfiction -- it's all about the slash, mostly between Mal/Simon/Jayne in different combinations.  It's so difficult finding Mal/Inara fic.  I think I've found most of what is out there and it wasn't much.

Robin Hood.  I am only a few days old in this fandom and still working my way through the series 1 episodes.  What ship did I jump on?  Robin & Marian of course (parts of ep 7 killed me with the angst).  The Master/Manservant love between Robin & Much is very sweet and totally reminds me of Sam & Frodo.   Next step: search for fic and icons.  Lots of slash which didn't surprise me.  What did surprise me is that it appears the popular couple in the fandom is another gen pairing -- Sir Guy & Marian.  Finally, a popular gen pairing but it's not the one I like!  I can't win, lol.

Reading update!  I stopped reading for about 2 months but I'm hoping for lots of reading during the summer.

In a bout of Saturday night boredom, I started browsing through people's f-lists and what did I find?  Probably the most awesome thing ever -- The Ballad of Jensen and Jared by seedyapartment.   First Plastic!Winchesters and now this.  I love this show.  I love this fandom.

I am addicted to what is known in the LJ BBM slash fanfiction community (long enough?) as Teh Crackfic.  The story is called Human Interest and is written by madlori.  It even has it's own LJ community now -- humaninterest .  I'm printing out all 200+ pages.  She's already started the sequel, Two Crows Joy. *squee*  The stories are AU where Jack & Ennis are living together on a ranch in Vermont.  She is best known, though, in the HP fandom for her H/Hr fanfic.  I'm definitely going to read it someday even though H/Hr is not my favourite pairing.  </stops pimpage>

I finally finished reading The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay (Michael Chabon).  Took me months.  Not my type of novel at all.  In contrast, I just zipped through A Home at the End of the World (Michael Cunningham).  I decided to finally read it after I watched the movie.  I really liked Colin Farrell in this movie.  In fact, this may have been the only film of Colin's I've seen.  He did a good job portraying Bobby's sweetness and lost-boy-ness.  If memory serves, this is the movie that caused "an uproar" and a re-edit cause Colin's, um, manhood, was clearly visible in a completely non-sexual scene (he walks across the room naked).  

I'm thinking about reading my Gordon Korman collection next.  I need some hilarity in my literature right about now.

Work is so tiring.  I am not a morning person.  I wish we had our own version of March Break/Reading Week.  Definitely need something to beat the winter blahs.  Why do I only get 2 weeks' worth of vacation?  I need more!

I don't really have anything of note to talk about so I was going to do a Kiefer picspam in your honour & in celebration of S5 starting this weekend but I realized that you probably have every. single. Kiefer picture out there. You do, don't you?

So, I've racked my brain about what to post about. At first, I was just going to do a standard picspam about my current obsessions but then I decided to expand upon that theme. But first, something for tinderblast :D
