a concert, a musical & a movie
Last night, mom & I went to see RyanDan.

(L - Ryan, R - Dan)

The boys sounded great, their harmony is amazing & I really enjoyed the show. My mom, who's never heard of them, also really liked it. However, I have discovered how much LJ & fandom has ruined me.

When RyanDan sing, especially if they're harmonizing, one of the boys usually watches the other for cues and such (I find it's mainly Dan watching Ryan). They've talked about this interviews. What kind of songs do they sing? Mainly love songs of course. Do you see where my mind is heading? Bad fandom for corrupting me :D

Most of you know that my not-so-secret guilty pleasure are boybands. New Kids were my first and I still enjoy Backstreet Boys & Westlife. Take That, a UK boyband in the '90s, I liked but didn't really get into cause by the time I discovered them, they were just months away from disbanding. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that there is currently a musical, Never Forget, featuring the music of Take That. And it's pretty good! It also made me nostalgic. I knew they reunited -- I have their new CD -- so off to YouTube I go and ended up spending hours watching the concert footage of both tours and the behind-the-scenes documentaries.

This is "Could It Be Magic" from their reunion tour. I love this cause (a) it has the Robbie Williams -- who did not re-join with the group -- intro; (b) the boys got wet and (c) it just looks like fun.

All the boys grew up nice.  I never thought Howard or Jason were good-looking but now?  Especially Jason.

You can probably blame these guys for all the reunions that are happening.  Take That reunited back in 2005, I think, and since then we've had the reunions of Boyzone, Spice Girls and New Kids.

Finally watched Atonement.  Good movie, not the ending I was expecting but still good, if not heartbreaking.  I kept reading about The Green Dress, which was indeed lovely but I think would've looked better on someone with a bit more curves.  And there was James McAvoy.  YUM.  I'm now currently d/l'g Becoming Jane and plan to watch Penelope tonight.  Excited to see Wanted but watching him speak with an American accent takes some getting used to.

lj anniversary
LJ anniversaries were mentioned a couple of times on my f-list today which prompted me to check when my own LJ anniversary was.  Guess what?  It's today!!  3 years ago today, [info]tinderblast  ushered me into the world of Livejournal by creating this account for me.  I was only planning on using my account for the purpose of commenting on other LJs but things turned out a bit differently :P  A short time later, I met a group of Kieferettes and the rest, as they say, is history  :D

New LJ moodtheme to celebrate -- animated Ianto  \o/

Went to KT Tunstall's concert last weekend.  We had great seats (3rd row) and it was a great show.  KT is just this cute little thing!  It was an acoustic set which I loved.  The set featured a good balance from both her CDs and of course, Black Horse & a Cherry Tree and Suddenly I See got the biggest crowd reaction.  I have a few videos but they're all too large to upload to photobucket.

After hearing about how great the show, Avatar, is from certain people -- you know who you are -- including my cousins, I've been downloading and am about halfway through the second season.  It's pretty good and Sokka makes me laugh more than I care to admit.

tokio hotel redux
After only a few months, Tokio Hotel was back last night. This time at The Sound Academy and a bigger crowd (I would venture at least double the size of the crowd at The MOD Club). The set, I think, was exactly the same but this time I was better prepared. Still have the most awful luck getting stuck behind girls who like to hold things -- a sign and 2 dolls of Tom & Gustav, I believe -- up in the air and blocking my view, not to mention all the arms and hands and cameras. Was amused overhearing one of the bartenders talking about how she was there for soundcheck and would've bet her life that Bill was a girl.

doctor who spoilers
I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if this was "old news" given my track record with keeping up with fandom, lol.

The last 2 days have been spent working during the day and attending a Kalan Porter concert at night.  Today will be pretty much the same minus the driving as the concert is in TO.  And one of the gals in our group was able to score front row tickets by pure luck, score!   Will have pictures and video to share for those interested by tomorrow (hopefully!).  In the meantime, the lovely Cathy has posted the audio of One Last Try from Thursday's Hamilton concert (no need to download, can just stream the audio).  And there's lots and lots of video from the concerts out west on YouTube.

odds n ends
  • I downloaded the Wonderfalls series and watched the first 3 eps. I forgot what a great show it was. Stupid Fox for cancelling it. And Lee Pace! And the girl who plays Hilary from KyleXY!

  • After watching bootlegs of both the Broadway and London version of Wicked, I have to say I prefer the Broadway version better. Yes, London had Idina Menzel (awesome) as Elphaba but I found Broadway Glinda was so much better than her London counterpart. One of my favourite scenes is "Popular" and Broadway Glinda was just so perfectly perky, I absolutely adored her.

  • My office building has a Treats on the main floor. Treats serves coffee, muffins, sandwiches and the like for those that don't know. Anyway, about a month ago they changed owners so all the workers are different now. They've hired the cutest guy ever and I seriously melted when I discovered he had an Australian accent as I bought a muffin for breakfast. The rest of the office gals discovered him this afternoon and for about 15 minutes we acted like 13 year olds giggling over the cute new boy. And the guys mocked us. And then we all went to our separate cubicles/offices and reverted back to the adult professionals that we are. =)

  • I found someone who had uploaded the entire series of Ocean Girl, yay!! So for the past 3 days I've been in state of constant downloading. And then I begin the long process of burning.

  • Last week I attended the Brian Melo/Faber Drive concert at the Opera House. Brian, the current CI, sounded pretty good but he's gained some weight. Too bad the sound wasn't that great. There were some ear-splitting feedback moments. This was also the first concert I actually used earplugs. I just couldn't handle the high-pitched screaming anymore. As for Faber Drive, I've only listened to their music, had no idea how these guys looked like, never saw a video. They were nothing like I thought they would be. Physically, I pictured something like Sum41 or Simple Plan but these guys were quite tall and lanky and looked older than I expected. Music was too damn loud though, could barely hear the singer sing.

  • Speaking of concerts, purchased tickets to see KT Tunstall in May and tomorrow begins the 3 days in a row of Kalan.

  • My goal to watch the remaining AFI's Top100 movies has begun. So far, I've obtained Some Like It Hot, Vertigo & It Happened One Night (which I've already seen but want a copy). It's been too long since I've watched the classics, I'm looking forward to it.

tokio hotel live
Dear TH,

Thank you for (a) starting your set at 8:30 instead of 9:00 as per Ticketmaster and (b) only playing a 50 minute set. I was home by 10pm.

Dear TTC,

15 minutes in the -16C freezing cold. FOUR westbound streetcars pass us. How many eastbound streetcars? NONE. You suck. And you owe me $10 for forcing me to take a taxi.

Dear Stupid Fan With the Sign,

Thank you for holding your sign up for the ENTIRE SET, thereby blocking our view of Tom & Gustav in the beginning and Bill at the end. You REALLY suck.

PS. Bill will not notice you. Ever.

Dear Me,

Next time you go to a concert, make sure the camera battery is fully charged. Moron.

****

So, yea, the concert. Very good. Had a glitch with Tom's guitar during "Don't Jump" -- it just kinda died -- so they cut that song short. Lots of screaming. LOTS. Lots of singing along, even the German songs. Lots of fangirls, a few parents and various other adults. Most of the girls were your typical teenagers, a lot of skin was showing, lots of quasi-goth wardrobes. There was the one chick, I wish I had taken a picture. I was by the bar so she came up beside me to order drinks. Way too much make-up. Fake tan. Blonde extensions were so obvious. Entire outfit was made of pleather -- this low cut red pleather top with an open back, a black miniskirt and red shiny pleather thigh-high boots. EW. And she ordered a drink I've never seen before -- the bartender poured her a shot of some kind, she puts the shot glass in another glass and then adds Red Bull to it. What?? Later, a girl and her mom moved into the space beside me. The girl was so excited to be there, it was quite adorable. The show was sold out but the place wasn't at capacity. I've seen it a lot fuller.

Sorry, Clairey & 4_leafclover, my camera-fu was not up to par tonight. Not only was I thwarted by evil fan-with-a-sign *stabs her* and all the hands in my way, the battery also died due to my stupidness. However, there were so many cameras there that night, I'm sure they'll be flooding the internets soon. I also noticed a guy videotaping the show on stage tonight. Maybe for their website?

As for the show, it was really good. I believe they sang all the songs on "Scream", a German song I didn't recognize, "By Your Side" (?) and the German version of "Monsoon". At the end, lots of water flinging and throwing the bottles into the audience. Bill & Tom threw their towels. Guitar picks and drumsticks were also thrown. After the encore, everyone left the stage except for Gustav who did the whole touching-hands thing. Best view I had of him all night.

under the cut are 4 really crappy pictures and a short video )

is there such thing as too much chocolate?
I fell asleep last night on the couch (which is getting to be a bad habit) with the window open and I was actually hot.  The weather has been up-and-down lately, not that I'm complaining about the ups.

Spent 1.5 hours this morning at the passport office.  What a way to start the morning.  Ugh.

A friend of mine works at the Bulk Barn head office so she gets a discount.  The catch is all the candy/chips comes in the bulk sizes (ie 10kg = 22 lbs).  I just put in an order for reese pieces for the office as we start the first phase of tax season hours (42.5 hrs/week).  10 kilos of reese pieces.  I think I'm gonna be really sick of them by April 30th!  On top of that, one of my co-workers, her mother, works for Nestle.  We'll be hitting her up for chocolate for sure!

Picked up my Tokio Hotel ticket last night!  The guy thought I wanted to buy one and informed me that the show was sold out.  I'm really surprised.  And now I'm kinda worried cause this means I have to go earlier than I originally planned to get a decent spot.

Speaking of concerts, going to another Kalan one.  This makes it 3 Kalan concerts in 3 days.  What am I thinking?!?  That's it, I'm drawing the line.  No more concerts.

2 co-workers complimented me this morning, said I looked really nice today.  I haven't done anything special, in fact, I thought I looked all frazzled with the whole being-late-cause-of-the-passport-thing.  Don't usually get compliments so that was nice.

I switched my mood theme to a Sammy one.  I loved the David Tennant one but I needed a change.
