APE

Well, I'm back from Alternative Press Expo. I made an ass of myself in front of Jeph Jacques (Questionable Content) by saying I didn't know how to pronounce his name. That pretty much killed any conversation. Next door was the The Devil's Panties table. I also met Aaron Diaz of Dresden Kodak, who was really chill; I think he humored me when I said I didn't understand the tail of the Hob storyline by saying he didn't either. I also met the person who does Weregeek who, I didn't realize, was a woman: Alina Pete. Oh, and, of course, I couldn't go before I paid my respects to Shaenon Garrity, who was in the middle of inking some Skin Horse comics, and Andrew Farango (curator of the San Francisco Comics Art Museum and cartoonist-of-many-things), both at the Couscous Collective table. I also went to the young SF comic artists panel, which was fun and interesting. My wallet is also a bit lighter, and I'll be eating spaghetti for a while, but I have a new t-shirt and a Harry Potter/Animal House parody by Andrew and Shaenon. **squee!**

Two reflections: 1) cons are more fun if you know people or go with people. 2) the tables I stopped at were mainly webcomics I recognized, while most of APE are print comics. I'm chalking this up to a) me being shy and only approaching people I know, and b) fear that if I start looking at their work, they'll eventually get me broke by just keeping on talking to me.

Okay, I've attended a con. Half of one less thing to do before I die.
