A Pearl

"I wish, brothers and sisters, that we could all imitate "the pearl oyster"—A hurtful particle intrudes itself into its shell, and this vexes and grieves it. It cannot reject the evil, but what does it do but "cover" it with a precious substance extracted out of its own life, by which it turns the intruder into a pearl! Oh, that we could do so with the provocations we receive from our fellow Christians, so that pearls of patience, gentleness, and forgiveness might be bred within us by that which otherwise would have harmed us."

~~~ Charles Spurgeon
"And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins." 1 Peter 4:8
The Right Rule of Our Love to Christ
"See here the right rule of our love to Christ, namely to love him as the Father loves him. Wherein should our love to Christ resemble the Father's love? Why, the Father's love to the Son was evidenced in choosing him to be our Saviour and Surety: so should our love to Christ be manifested in making choice of him to be our Saviour and Surety; insomuch, that as God hath laid all our help upon him, so we should lay all our help where God hath laid it. Again, the Father's love to the Son was evidenced in giving all things into his hand: thus should our love to Christ be evidenced in putting all things in his hand as the Father doth; and particularly, you may put your hearts in his hand, that he may keep them; put your souls in his hand, that he may save them; put your plagues in his hand, that he may heal them; put your corruptions in his hand, that he may weaken and subdue them. Put your wants in his hand, that he may supply them; put your work in his hand, that he may work all your works in you, and for you; put your burdens in his hand, that he may bear them: put all things in his hand, and thus evidence your love to him, by putting honour upon him as a Prophet, to teach you; as a Priest, to pardon; and as a King, to conquer you by his grace, and crown you with his glory."
~~~ Ralph Erskine

Make Me Thy Fuel, Flame of God

"From prayer that asks that I may be
Sheltered from winds that beat on Thee,
From fearing when I should aspire,
From faltering when I should climb higher,
From silken self, O Captain, free
Thy soldier who would follow Thee.

From subtle love of softening things,
From easy choices, weakenings,
(Not thus are spirits fortified,
Not this way went the Crucified,)
From all that dims Thy Calvary,
O Lamb of God, deliver me.

Give me the love that leads the way,
The faith that nothing can dismay,
The hope no disappointments tire
The passion that will burn like fire,
Let me not sink to be a clod;
Make me Thy Fuel, Flame of God."

~~~ Amy Carmichael
The Sun of righteousness
"But for you who revere my name, the Sun of
righteousness will rise with healing in its wings."
Malachi 4:2
The golden tressed sun is the most glorious
object in creation; and in Jesus the fullness
of glory dwells.
The sun is at the same time the most influential
of existences, acting upon the whole world; and
truly our Lord is, in the deepest sense, of this
great world both eye and soul. He with benignant
ray sheds beauty, life, and joy from above.
The sun is, moreover, the most abiding of creatures;
and therein it is also a type of Him who remains
from generation to generation, and is the same
yesterday, today, and forever.
The 'king of day' is so vast and so bright that
the human eye cannot bear to gaze upon him.
We delight in his beams, but we would be blinded
should we continue to peer into his face. Even yet
more brilliant is our Lord by nature, for as God he
is a consuming fire, but He deigns to smile upon
us with milder beams as our brother and Redeemer.
Jesus, like the sun, is . . .
the center and soul of all things,
the fullness of all good,
the lamp that lights us,
the fire that warms us,
the magnet that guides and controls us.
Jesus is the source and fountain of all . . .
life,
beauty,
fruitfulness,
and strength.
Jesus is . . .
the fosterer of tender herbs of penitence,
the quickener of the vital sap of grace,
the ripener of fruits of holiness, and the life of
everything that grows within the garden of the Lord.
Whereas to adore the sun would be idolatry;
it is treason not to worship ardently the divine
Sun of righteousness.
As the sun is the center, so is Christ to His people.
As the sun is the great source of power,
so is Christ to His people.
As the sun is the fountain from which
light, life, and heat perpetually flow,
so is the Savior to His people.
As the sun is the fructifier by which fruits
multiply and ripen, so is Christ to His people.
Enthrone Jesus as the central sun of your hearts.
Bask in his beams, and let Him rule your entire
being; enlightening your understanding; warming
your hearts; filling all your powers, passions, and
faculties with the fullness of his presence. Come
and lay your souls beneath His divine influence.
Come, plunge into this sea of sweetness,
dive deep into this abyss of happiness!
~~~ C.H. Spurgeon

To The Glory Of God

My prayer for this journal:

Dear Lord,

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer." Psalm 19:14 Your word also says:"whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." Colossians 3:17 and "...whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." 1 Corinthians 10:31
O Lord, may all I post here bring glory to You alone! Thank You God for this site, thank You for the collection of quotes, poems, stories, etc... that I will be able to share here, thank You for all who visit here. May You be honored, glorified and praised! May others be encouraged and brought nearer to You. In the precious name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
