katamari travesty [26 Sep 2004|12:59am]

So the verdict on Katamari Damacy? It's TERRIBLE. Worst game I've ever played! Don't believe the hype, the game is boring, repetitive, and just plain stupid.

...

Of course I say this without having actually PLAYED the game yet, since every store in town is sold out. Any game I can't have has to suck, though, so I think it's safe to assume that Katamari isn't worth buying.

;_;

It's really bizarre how popular this game already is, though. The guy at EB says that people snatched up every single copy of Katamari that was shipped to the store right away; two shipments, both immediately selling out. He reported that even people who usually weren't into quirky games were buying it "for no reason", other than just because it was Katamari Damacy. When he tried to talk those people into also buying Gungrave OD - which is similarly cheap, awesome, and Japanese - they would have none of it. They only wanted Katamari, and they got every last copy of it.

Fuckers, all of you who have a copy right now. Hate you so much.

I know who to blame for this, though. I can't help but think that the Atari Fatties of the world -- sensing an opportunity beyond the half-eaten tub of butter they hold nestled in their laps as they argue on the Digital Press forums about why the Jaguar is better in terms of sexual penetrability than the 3DO -- are out there buying up and hoarding copies of the game simply because it might be a "future rare title" and not because they give any sort of crap about the gameplay. Which is dandy news for all you concerned journalists out there worried about how well Katamari will sell (focus your worry on Gungrave instead guys), but this all comes at the expense of my own instant gratification, so it's just kind of pissing me off, you see.

Monday is when the next shipment comes in, the guy says. So I also have to buy Donkey Konga now when I go get Katamari. Life is rough sometimes.

PS: dicks
