Steal This Comic

Posted in [info]xkcd_rss on 2008.10.13 at 04:00
I spent more time trying to get an audible.com audio book playing than it took to listen to the book. I have lost every other piece of DRM-locked music I have paid for.

no-one will ask to borrow money and you will have a solid investment.

I'm back down to 99/250. Been slacking. I should play Nighty Nine Nights. I'm also incredibly horny and angry. And bored. I want to film random things that don't have a story or connect and I want to make the world's most exciting trailer. The MGS4 soundtrack might be influencing this idea, however. Also, 'sup Mosey?

thank you lynn...

Smiley...

My fiancé and I rode the James River/Autumn Leaf Rambler in Buckingham County, Virginia yesterday. It's a three and a half hour scenic train ride on an old restored train. At one point we passed by a lumber yard and I spotted this smiley face and made sure to have my camera ready on the way back to snap a shot:

The Boston Half Marathon went by my house today.  I went out there during the last minutes of it to see what it was like.

Once again, thank you for all your support and feedback.

And now for something nostalgic...

I dunno about anyone else, but this sort of display also reminds me a little of the technology in Myst, especially the way it flickers. :)

On a side note, does anyone have any recommendations for good sci-fi manga/graphic novels? I've never really been into graphic novels before, but for some reason I've been compelled to pick something out lately.

Unidentified orbweaver

She wouldn't hold still long enough for a very good picture, but I think whatever field markings we'd be looking for are there.
I'd tentatively say she's an Araneus orbweaver.  My guide has this to say:  "Identification of Araneus spiders, to species, is surprisingly difficult.   Abdomen colors and patterns can vary dramatically even within species.  As with many spiders, exact IDs often come down to differences in microscopic body parts."

We came across a young man balancing rocks in the Riverway yesterday.
He declined when I asked if I could take his picture.
So if you find balanced rocks--it's not just me!

Korean BBQ

I had Korean Barbecue last night for the first time.  I had three reactions: Wow, that's delicious, holy crap that's expensive, and wait a minute--why do we have to cook our own food?  I thought that's why we were eating out.  Okay, cooking it ourselves at the table before our very eyes ensures that the meat is piping hot and fresh, but I still thought it was weird.  Alexis pointed out that it gives you something to do as you wait for your food--except that you're waiting for yourself to cook the food.  I guess my feeling is that eating out at a restaurant is an agreement: you order the stuff on the menu (I am against making special orders) and they bring it to you.  When they brought out three huge plates of uncooked meat I was surprised, to say the least.  I guess I like the fact that you see the meat in that state: I don't think people should eat meat without contemplating it (as the remains of an animal) first.

Dear Frank,

I had been looking forward to the opportunity to hear you speak for a few years now. My new friend and I were at the front doors to the art center, just about to walk in, when I received a phone call from my babysitter...she needed me to come home right away.

Upon returning home, the gentleman that accompanied me to the event suggested we sit down and share our own secrets with each other. I proceeded to grab a notebook and we each had our own pen. Three secrets each were shared.

It ended up being the most incredible evening as we elaborated on our secrets, exposed our soft underbellies, and neither of us ran away - as we all fear will happen when we expose such intimate parts of ourselves.

You be well, too...

Sincerely,
Kristen
