Hey! We made it back!
Going up to my Mom's house is always a bit of an adventure. Her "cabin in the woods" she calls it.
We got in about midnight; go figure. She was really happy to see us, but Griff was conked. Mom had set up a bed for us in the old trailer, misquito free. The nights were definatly warm, but not as bloody hot as they were when I lived in the bus.
Griff came in and woke us up the next morning (and the mornings following). He was so happy to see me... and he remembered David too! He didn't particularly like being kicked out of the room so we could get dressed though. :D
Griff had a blast at his birthday party. My mom rented the Beiber pool for him. Kid LOVES to swim. The lifeguard wouldn't survive long outside of Beiber... I tried not to get too angry at her.
About 40 people in all showed up for Griff's birthday party. I swear, there were more smokers at his party than at mine. Whole bunch of rednecks, but what else would I expect? Teresa (Mom's friend, my friend's mom) was asking me what I was doing for school. When I explained it to her, she said (of Hum) "there's not really much over there, is there?" I replied "What, compared to McArthur?" She didn't find that very funny. Heh.
Her son, Jimmy, got HUGE. I mean, I remember this kid at 5. He's 18 now and about two feet taller than me. Scary shit.
David had a conversation with Super Redneck Man. Really, he used the terms "terroist" and "Y2K" freely. Well, let me amend that... David didn't really have a conversation with him. David just got talked at a lot.
Griff got these great little nerf dart guns for his birthday. After the pool, we spent much of the rest of the weekend shooting eachother with them. He's got better aim than me.
The next day (Saturday), Mom and Ivan took us out to Ahjumawi. The private "entrance", where they've cut they're own road. Ahhhh... deep, blue water, trees, and Shasta towering over all.
http://www.parks.ca.gov/default.asp?page_id=464Those directions won't get you to where we were. They'll get you to the same lake, but the bad part of it.
David had a blast just floating in the water.
Oh... and the sunset Friday night from the Beiber Mt. was spectacular. David took some great photos. He took a lot of great photos. We'll get them developed eventually.
I told my Mom the "seen kyle" joke.
Me: Hey mom, have you seen kyle? He's about this tall... etc.
Mom: Kyle? Who's Kyle?
Me: No, it's a joke. Zieg Heil, seen Kyle? *salutes* ZEIG HEIL!
Mom: Zeig Heil? *puzzled look, salutes from the forehead* Who was that?
Me: MOM! Nazis?
Mom: Oh... ok....
Eh. That's my mom.
Anyway, it was a wonderful trip. Gads, Griff's TEN now. Doubles. Wow. Just bloody wow.
There's so much more to tell, but it'll wait.
I'm so glad I got to be there. I'm sorry I missed the parties, but that's how things happen.
I'll talk at y'all later. I've gotta wash the hick off me :D
