I know someone posted a very informative post about del.icio.us some time ago, which ironically I bookmarked and can't find anymore. Does anyone know which post I am talking about or can point me to other sites explaining how to best use del.icio.us?

I finally signed up for it, but I'm not sure if and how to use it. The two most urgent questions I have are:
1) Is there a way to make bookmarks private or is everything I have there automatically available to the public?
2) Is there a way to import bookmarks from my browser or do I have to transfer the roughly 1000 websites I have bookmarked by hand?

Help?

1) Tree Size Pro is a nifty little toy which let's you find out where on your hard drive all that space is disappearing to. I used it last year on my mysteriously shrinking laptop HD and found out that I hadn't cleared the system volume information in, well, ever. Now I found a mysterious temp folder on my other computer, which had reached a size of more than 3 GB.


2) It's "immediately", not "immidiately, and really not "immidetly". "Incompatible", not "incompatable". "Competent", not "competant". "Weird", not "wierd", and "irresistible", not "irresistable". And "Cemetary" is a swedish death metal band, but not a place where you can find graves. I could go on. With the exception of weird/wierd, these are not typos, they are misspellings. If I can remember these as a non-native speaker, I think I can expect native speakers to get them right at least in fic. I'm not even asking for lj posts or group messages.


3) I think I'd have hated Madame Director a bit less if it wasn't for her ridiculous hair at the beginning of season 3. Then again, maybe not.


4) I missed the NCIS flashfic crossover challenge. Thus, Gibbs will not have sex with Hannibal any time soon. Sorry, Gibbs.

I have a scanner. Not really, I have a printer that can scan. Or so it says, cause I've never tried it. I had actually forgotten about it, until I thought a few days ago that I would really like to have a scanner, and should maybe buy one. Stupid me.

So, now that I've remember that I have a scanner, I have no idea what to do with it. I desperately want to scan something, if only to see how and if it works, but I don't know what. This is where you people come in:

I'm sure there are secret "Fun with scanners" clubs, where they tell you what fun things one can scan and then let loose on the unsuspecting internet, in particular my livejournal, and some of you are members of these clubs. So, tell me to scan something.

A word of advice:

if you are running Windows XP and have it set to automatical updates, make sure that it actually installs the updates. I thought mine did, but it had stopped, because (this is the fun part), the update program needed an update that it couldn't install automatically.

Funny, how I didn't even know this thing existed a minute ago, and now I want it so very very much. If it works, it is the best computer invention since the mouse.

I found something that Opera can't do: sell things at ebay.

I mean, of course it can't sell things itself, but it won't let you use most of the ebay sale tools, like the html-for-dummies or the picture uploading. Guess I'll have to use good old IE for that.

I hope that this is the last computer related entry for a while. For those of you who care, I deinstalled every program I had, deinstalled Service Pack 2, reinstalled service pack 2, et voilà, je suis online. Let's pray that it last.

Now I have to study a few hours (I decided to get ambitious and start preparing for the BIG exam, which shall from now on be called the BE). Study, walk the dog, watch Farscape, spend night reading flist. That's my plan for today.

That loud cry you just heard? That was me.

The new computer arrived. It's shiny and pretty. And it doesn't work. Well, not quite. Here's what happened.

Unpacked computer, turned it on, installed my router, was online. Everything was perfect.

Bittorrent wouldn't work, so I deinstalled service pack 2.

Was not online anymore.

Reinstalled Service pack 2: am still not online.

I get the error "Network error". Emule tells me that something is called a UDP socket that is not a socket.

I did the "ping" test, and arrived at my router fine. I am however unable to reach my router via my browser, again, network error "server cannot be found".

My router works fine, my connection works fine I am currently online at home with my laptop.

I called about every service hotline in the existence of mankind. No one was able to help me. The only thing that I have been told is that I should completely reinstall Windows XP, meaning that I would lose everything, including 1,5 years of windows updates. There is no personal data on the computer yet, so that wouldn't be the problem.

What should I do? Completely reinstall? Is there any way that completely reinstalling would make things worse?

Help? Anyone? Do you know anyone who could help me? I am so desperate here, so desperate.

I think I'm going to sit down in a corner and cry a little. Or a lot.

I'm at home, I found room for all the books I bought, I'm sleeping in my old bed, and everything is fine.

There's Michael Weatherly website that has a file of some interview of MW which I would very much like to see. Sadly, the people who run the site, have "no hotlinking!" safety measures everywhere, making it impossible for me to download said file. And, since it is a zip-file, I can't very well watch it online, can I?

The one funny thing about it is that I was just going to leave a comment about that when I saw that someone had already done so, today. Seems like I'm not the only one who wanted their daily MW fix.

But yes, help. I'm sure there is some way to download that file, and I know that some of you are way smarter with these things, so if one of you smart people could give it a try and explain me how to do it? Or email me the file at oceana2602 @ gmail.com?

The whole "Memories are temporarily not available" thing is really starting to piss me off. I'm pondering complaining to lj, but I am not sure how to do that. I know that they blame it on the server workload, and that they know about the issue, but really, paying user here, I'd like to be able to use what I'm paying for. And is it just me or does someone else have the feeling that during the last months the site is loading slower than it used to?

Does anyone know where one would sent a complaint? I only know about the support area, and it's not really a support question.

I would very much like to have these pics on my HD, to look and enjoy from time to time, but my stupid computer refuses to save them as jpgs. When I right-click and choose "safe as...", it'll only offer to save as .bmp, which is all weird and the files are huge. So, I cannot safe them. Argh.

Would someone be so kind and dowload these pics for me, zip them up (or not, whatever works for you) and send them to my gmail account oceana2602 @ gmail.com ? The promotion pics would be great, any Starbuck pics from the episode files would be even better (cause I want Starbuck very very much. actually, there are few people on BSG I don't want, but Starbuck is on top of me my list).

Weird things happen. Whenever I try to go to numb3rs_icons, I can't see pictures anymore.
And I mean any pics.
The community shows up fine, the icons on the first page show up fine. I try to open a post, and nothing happens. No graphics.
None.
And the worst thing is that afterwards I can't seen graphics anywhere anymore. Not on lj, not on ebay, not anywhere.
Then I close all my browser windows, and the problem is gone.
Until I visit numb3rs_icons again.

Can that really be possible or am I going crazy?
And how do they expect me to become a fangirl when I can't even get an icon?

Stupid question for the smart people on my flist:

I use Internet Explorer (I know). Usually, there's a area at the bottom of the window where you can see how much of the website has loaded, or, when you move you mouse over a link, where the link is going and such. It also shows if you are using a secure connection. Know what I mean?

Well, mine's gone.
I can't see it anymore.
And I'd really like it back.

So, let's say I have this .avi file of West Wing "We killed Yamamoto", and I'd like to cut out the shooting range scene, because Mark Harmon is so sexy it should be illegal, and CJ is the cutest thing ever.
What program do I need? Something very simple that even I can understand, please.
