I read quite a few books these last weeks, partly because I was on vacation, partly because my fannish hunger was fed by music vids this months, so I didn't read much fanfic.

Here's my vacation reading:

Naomi Novik - His Majesty's Dragon, Throne of Jade and Black Powder War )

Truman Capote - Summer Crossing )

Paul Grote - Tod in Bordeaux )

F. Scott Fitzgerald - Tender is the Night )

Paul Theroux - The Pillars of Hercules )

Part 2 to follow soon, after I cooked, ate, watched Bones and Amazon.com is back up.

I've read an insane amount of fanfic these last two months, so I didn't have time to read many books. Here's what kept my eyes busy inbetween all the fanfic:

Annie Proulx - Close Range -Wyoming Stories )

Mark Frost - The List of Seven )

John Banville - The Sea )

Kathy Reichs - Break No Bones )

Nicole Krauss - The History of Love )

You can find more of this (I hesitate to call these reviews) here.

It's been a while since I last poasted about the books I've read lately. Mostly because I didn't read many books during all the studying I did. And not all the books I read during the last few weeks were as good as they proised to be.

But let's move on to the list.

Shopaholic Takes Manhattan by Sophie Kinsella )

The End of The World by Michael Cunningham )

Marley and Me by John Grogan )

Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro )

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman )

Last Chance To See by Douglas Adams and Mark Cawardine )

Well, this turned out to be a lot longer than I expected. And a bit more depressing as well. I think I need to read another book.

I haven't had much time to read in the months before my exams, but I'm trying to catch up with my reading list. Here's what I read during the last three months:

Rita Mae Brown - Catch as Cat can, Murder on the Prowl, Cat's Eyewitness and Cat on the Scent )

Alex Garland - The Coma )

Jeffrey Steingarten - The Man Who Ate Everything and It Must have been Something I ate )

Robyn Sisman - Weekend in Paris )

Julie Orringer - How To Breathe Underwater )

Peanuts 1950 - 1954 )

I have a little over 100 books on my amazon wishlist and about twenty unread ones lying around, so I guess I won't get bored. Ever again. ;-)

I'm looking for a scary book for someone as a christmas gift. The only thing I know about that someone is that she likes horror movies, and that neither german nor english is her native language, so I'm not going to give her Poe. I was thinking about something a bit easier, like Stephen King?

I'm not a King fan myself. Any recommendations, dear flist?

P.S.:
Please entertain me. I'm panic-posting all day so I don't have to think about my exams, and I'll keep on posting until I find something you people want to talk about. I'm taking request. Tell me what you want to hear and I'll write about it.
Probably.

If I continue to read like this, I may post my reading list regularly. You can find my last one here, if you are interested.

But on to the books I read in the last three weeks

1) Audrey Niffenegger - The Time Traveler's Wife )

2) Karin Slaughter - Blindsighted )

3) Kathy Reichs - Cross Bones )

4) Mark Haddon - The Curious Incident of the dog in the the night-time )

5) Carolyn Parkhurst - The Dogs of Babel )

And then there was of course 6) J.K.Rowling - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. But I don't think I need to tell you anything about that, do I? *g*

Next on my reading list: "John Henry Days" by Colson Whitehead, "The Book of Nothing" by John D. Barrow and "Balzac et la Petite Tailleuse chinoise" by Dai Sijie.

Called in sick today, because that's how I was feeling this morning. Just staying home and not having to go to the work I hate where I have to see the people I hate made me feel so much better that I'm afraid I'll have to go tomorrow. As much as I hate them, I can't lie about being sick.
*sigh*
Anyway, I wanted to share some book recs. Lately, I've been buying books like crazy. I blame work and the way it depresses me. Spending hours in a book store is my personal anti-depressant.

Here's what I read during the last two months:

1) Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown - Mrs. Murphy Series )

2) Karin Slaughter - A Faint Cold Fear )

3) Paul Theroux - Dark Star Safari )

4) Nicholas Shakespeare - Bruce Chatwin )

5) Sting - Broken Music (Autobiography) )

6) Joseph Gangemi - Inamorata )

That's it. I have quite a few books on my shelf that I haven't read yet, and I can't wait to find the time to do so. Today I started "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger, it I already love it after twenty pages (then I had to stop to go shopping).

Btw, has anyone ever read "The Blind Watchmaker" by Richard Dawkins? Douglas Adams talks about it in "The Salmon of Doubt", and it sounds fascinating, but it is also rather expensive over here. Anyone know if it is good?

Sometimes I feel adventurous and read original fiction.
Uhm, I mean books. That's what they call them.
Like Andrew Pyper's "Lost Girls", where I found this little quote:

"I'm uncomfortably aware of my buttocks squishing and slipping against each other like mating seals."

Oh, I'm so easily amused these days. :-)

Note: Books don't have a copy-past button. Just so you know.
