Countdown till December holidays: 4 more weeks.

The grass is no longer green over here. Well, until the sun comes out and melts/desstroys everything of course. The grass is covered in frost in the morning and on our way to the Main Hall, we notice the grass tips sparkling and we ignore the sounds of chaos around us as students rush to get to the nearest radiator. I picked up a leaf and it was so fragile it would have cracked under the slightest pressure of my fingertips -
and yes, the point IS, it is cold. Very very cold. I don't know how many degrees it is outisde right now but as it is night, it's probably as cold as it was this early morning. I wish I wouldn't have to go to lessons. I want to curl up next to the radiator in my room until spring comes and turns the grass green again.

So far, school is a pain. Whatever the huge differences are between my old school and this new one, they don't change the fact that I still have to go to class, complete assignments and do my exams. A general overview of my classes: English Lit is dull especially as we're doing Spies by Michael Frayn which I absolutely detest (one bit in the book he goes on about a tub of geraniums or something, at which point I was about to light myself on fire, along with the damn novel), Economics is pretty good becuase I learnt a lot of it already, History is boring but copeable and Religious Studies is pretty cool, except i tend to mostly space out during lessons. I space out during a lot of my lessons actually. I'm thinking i can get As in all my subjects for AS other than English, as the essay techniques that had worked so well in Brunei do not seem to impress my teachers here as much.

As tomorrow is a Saturday, boarders have to do two sessions of activities from 10 to 1; Huan Hui, e-Rue and I are doing music and study (as per usual) because nobody bothers us during music, and I can do my prep during that time. Then as we normally do on a Saturday, we go to town centre and go shopping. Which is the best part of the weekend, let me just point out. I love weekends. The anticipation one feels as the week crawls on from Monday is just tremendous. In Brunei weekends are non-existant as Friday and Sundays are the off-days in the week so you can't say 'have a nice weekend' or whatever, and when it's Thursday it's just a feeling of mild relief; lather rinse repeat for Saturday as well. So that's one big difference right there that I have managed to exaggerate somewhat.

In other words: NO SCHOOL TOMORROW! yes. and I can spend more money on useless things like dvds (i seriously need to catch up on Peep Show).

Yeah, so, Sean Lock on Friday night? AMAZIN.

I was pretty hyper during the entire night because a) OMG it's Sean Lock from tv! and b) FIRST STAND UP SHOW EVER! and by the end it was YES BEST NIGHT EVER?!

I laughed, I cried, I broke a spleen. The best thing I liked about his performance was how he handled the hecklers and his reaction to his microphone getting accidentally unplugged. Other bits I liked: pre-show/interlude music, THE RIDDLER, seeing him live when the night before I watched him on tv, Wizard of Oz sketch thing, "this proves you don't really need a punchline to get laughs", "it would look like a squirrel shot with a magnum", "Fucking midget!!!" and using fingers as hair.

Yeah, it was pretty awesome.

Other stuff; i am rather irritated because I can't get tickets online to Patrick Wolf at Sheperds Bush Empire. On the venue site it seems to say "Not available" but not "sold out". And it would be pretty awesome if I could go see this so-called Grand Finale. D:

1pm - wake up with a throbbing headache and sore throat. go to boots, get some lemsip. eat 'breakfast' a.k.a. krispy kreme donuts from paddington station.

2.30pm - muck around in the lobby. stare at tv.

3pm - go out. oxford street. (as if there are no other places to shop)

3.15pm - get on the wrong bus (again).

4pm - finally shopping. typical order of shops to go to: primark, next, topshop, zara. i admit, i am a closet compulsive shopper. once i splurged out uhm, quite a substantial amount of money on clothes. in one day.

5.45pm - exhausted, go back to b hall.

6.30pm - hang out in the ping pong room downstairs with others.

3am - sleep.

my absolute favourite place to shop, however, is carnaby street. the shops there are brilliant although expensive. there's this store full of random japanese trinkets/toys/junk like DIY robot kittens and hologram stickers of dancing pandas. and the cd shops at notting hill which sell cheap.

half-term holidays! i do not want to go back to school.

This is officially my last post before I leave. I actually don't know whether I feel more excited, nervous or scared. D:

Goodbye, Brunei. I will miss you and your endearingly dull ways and making fun of poklens and the times I've had eating roti kosong with susu manis and Milo ping. They don't make them any better than they do here in good ol' Brunei.

Anyway my mom is concerned with what clothing I should wear for the flight tomorrow since I am now a scholarship student. I don't know what the fuss is all about; what does the government care if I wear a pair of jeans and a South Park t-shirt? My mom just said that "it's not going to look nice". Bloody hell.

Sidenote: I might be seeing Mark Steel (funny Adrian Brody-lookalike with lefty socialist proclivities) and Sean Lock live?! I'd have to convince/bribe someone to come with me though! Then I'd just have to watch Dylan Moran, Bill Bailey and Frankie Boyle live and my existence would be completely justified.

I haven't packed yet! 13 days to go till i leave good ol' Brunei. This feels strange - I've always said that I wanted to leave this place and just...live somewhere else (lol how unambiguous.) and then I'd get these 'oh how could you, you unpatriotic minx' looks from my friends. but rly, it's not me not loving Brunei - there's this strong urge for me to go and explore outside the boundaries of this place i call home. It's home, but there's so much more out there. I have a long list of countries I'd love to visit. I'd love to go to New Zealand again. a couple years ago i went to Christchurch. Beautiful place. Calm, tranquil. Friendly people, even the little schoolboys. Lots of sheep, so that's always good. Some of my friends don't understand this urge to get out. They're content living their lives in monotony; black and white and greys. Daily routines never change: tv schedule constant, same faces everyday. safe. dull.

Rambling is fun. Anyway - as mentioned earlier, I haven't packed yet. The school requires a lot of stuff for the students to bring. Like a tennis racket. i don't even play tennis, but fuck it. Also new boarders willl have to participate in 'sporting/swimming activities' the day we get there. urgh. I hope i don't have to - i don't even know how to swim. it would not do to drown on my first day now would it?

Hm, I watched the first season of Life on Mars (god bless youtube). I like how it has this almost epic slash cinematic quality to it. John Simm is pretty when he's angsty.

1. 8-out-of-10-cats
8 out of 10 cats is one of those British comedy panel game shows which I love so much. It is as pointless as Nevermind the Buzzcocks because all the panel does really is discuss, joke and make friendly banter about what the British are doing in the current week. It doesn't matter whaat they're talking about as long as it's all silly and fun and even though Jimmy Carr sometimes annoys me, he shows flashes of brilliance whenever he manages. And of course, HRG-lookalike, Sean Lock can make me ROFL, not noticing that I have rolled over and killed the cat on the way.

2. Dalek vs. Cyberman
This refers to 'Doomsday', the Doctor Who season 2 finale. While other people might call it totally unnecessary on RTD's part, I loved the concept of these two soulless creatures just battling it out...and bantering! "CLEARLY!" lolololol.

3. Jumped up pantry boys
Another somewhat obscure reference, this time to 'This Charming Man'. I'm actually not sure what the phrase 'jumped up pantry boys' means but as an interest, I'm actually alluding to the song, which is sparkly and fun and one of those rare songs which can make you weep (because of its perfection) and dance (because...well, because) and think (oh, just listen to the bloody song.)

4. The name 'tristan'
I've always liked this name. It sounds fit for a knight. Sir Tristan ieafiagiisjfoka. Idk.

5. Watching-roaches-climb-the-wall
Now, I don't actually like to watch roaches climb the wall because ew. But hurrah, Pulp. AND STILL YOU NEVER GET IT RIGHT, SOMETHINGSOMETHING LYING IN BED AT NIGHT, WATCHING ROACHES CLIMB THE WALLLL, SOMETHINGSOMETHING CALLED YOUR DADDY SOMETHING.... i cannae decipher some lyrics but Common People is great to dance to.

Singapore bans gay story reading during pride event as well as the kissing exhibition.

It's not exactly surprising since this is Singapore we're talking about here but if the government is constantly banning all these activities then why oh why oh why was the pride event even allowed in the first place? It's so irritating. Leave it or get on with it! The claims that the story reading "offends government officials" is just stupid and unfounded, as well as does the fact that the kissing exhibition "promoted a homosexual lifestyle". It's a bloody pride event! What did they expect? Paintings of doe-eyed squirrels gazing at stolen nuts being tongued by fawns?

"Indignation seeks to capture this mood," organizers said. "Change is possible. We are not passive victims of ignorance and prejudice in an unchanging landscape. We are active citizens playing our part in making Singapore a better place."

Thankfully, the LGBT community isn't as spineless as the government would like to think.

- the plot sounds like shite. "Overly lazy and commitment-phobic, Dennis suffers a minor breakdown and ditches his pregnant girlfriend Libby at the altar. Ten years later, Dennis realizes just how big a mistake he made."

And we've all been put into the same boarding house. :D At least during lunch I won't have to stand and look awkward, knowing there's nobody to sit with. That's a horrible feeling. But yes - fun happy times ahead. I'm very annoyed though that the original acceptance letter and joining papers haven't arrived yet.

Not really that excited for Harry Potter since the last two books were rubbish, IMHO. Will probably buy the final one after all the hype has died out. By then, the internet will perhaps cease to exist what with the amount of wank about to ensue from the HP fandom.

And I recall a line from The History Boys where the headmaster is praising other schools or something or other, and mentioned Leighton Park. "...and Leighton Park. Or is that an open prison?" Well, fuck. I didn't realize that my internetz has been working fine for these past few weeks! Silly meeeee. Speaking of mee, I haven't eaten mee goreng in about a week which I think is a record for me. It's nice not to eat MSG-laden food everyday.

And fuck - well, I didn't get the scholarship. I blame this partly due to a) my non-existant extra-curricular activities and b) my saying that I wanted to take International Relations during the interview - even after that guy said that they didn't need anymore IR people. Oh well. There'll be more chances after A levels, so I'm not going to get too worked up about it.

After that disappointing news, my cousins and I watched Hot Fuzz at Empire. The theatre was sadly almost empty except for us and a bunch of pre-teens sitting way at the front. But anyhoo, the movie was still a hoot - I think I'm slightly in love with Simon Pegg? - absurd in all the right places, wry soundtrack and the film editing were wonderful. I can't decide which characters I adore more: the two Andies ("Andes"), Danee or any of the NWA members. I would gladly pay $8 again to see it. And again, and again.

Enough about me. How are you all doing?

MONKEYS. This huge one tried to break into my house, actually. But when it saw me coming it took off into the depths of the dark, dark jungle like a sissy.
Also, quite a few years ago monkeys from the jungle (or whatever) behind my house stole our cars' lisence plates. I suspect if the jungle (or whatever) is cleared sometime in the future random bits of lisence plates would be found scattered everywhere. A 'B' here, '3' there, '5' and 'J' somewhere in the small river covered in monkey shit, or whatever. I like these monkeys, but I don't appreciate one of them trying to break the glass door at the back of my house. Not cool.

Was I the only one who was delighted at Stephen Colbert's attentiveness towards Aayan Hirsi Ali in that interview? He looked so interested in what she had to say that I thought it was really going to be like an actual thought-provoking, informative interview. While I don't fully agree with Ali (who looked beautiful, I might add), I found that what she said about not many Muslims questioning the doctrine (compared to Christians) was spot-on. I'm speaking as someone who was raised as a Muslim, still am, actually. So yeah, good interview.

re: scholarship briefing. Apparently there is a Malay oral test, which is I guess when the questions on MIB and other similar (aka dull) questions will be asked. There's also another separate interview that allows the candidate to speak in English BUT Malay is preferred. I don't get why the preference since the Malay test will be conducted as well. ianfinis. Very annoying. I'm afraid if I start speaking in English during the interview I won't stop. It's just so much easier for me to go on and on while my Malay is really horrible and I always end up taking a very long time forming my answers. So there's a very long "UHHHhHHHM" in between the question asked and my answer, and that is not cool. So, I'm very anxious.

this actually sounds and looks very tasty. hay i wonder if they'll export it to other not-so-American, like say, the rest of the world? Because I will gladly spend a considerable amount of money for six or seven tubs of that shit. So I can display them in my room...somehow. (or make them into a sculpture?) and store things in them. Like, pencils. Or used gluesticks. And, glowsticks.

I got called in for the "taklimat" aka briefing tomorrow for the scholarships. EEEEE. When I got the memo, I mistranslated taklimat and thought it meant 'interview' so I panicked for quite a bit that morning...until someone cleverer than I told me that taklimat is actually a briefing. Yes, I actually know that taklimat=briefing but at that moment, I just freaked out. The actual interview though? EEEEEIEEE. Scary stuff. I need to get someone to practice my Malay with.

It's confirmed that I'm going to Kuala Lumpur this week so, YAY. And we'll be bringing along my srsly hyperactive nephew and niece who will be very difficult to babysit. But. Why did Jens Lekman come to KL in January (or was it February?) instead of...I don't know, THIS WEEK? WHEN I'M THERE. IAIFNSADNF(@RWJ.

01. Just watched the Little Britain Night highlights reel thing on the season 3 DVD and oh dear, I think I've fallen more in love with Tony Head. IAWTC that David Walliams said about him looking particularly "rough and ready" at the time, holy hell, the earring particularly was just, UNFNFFGHHG. Renders me incoherent. And i ~HEART*~*~ David's huge, cheesy smile (":D:D:D") when Tony praised them for being so charming and such, and then Tony did the same smile. NGHGHHG.

Happy (belated) National Day, Brunei! My school participated in the marching and yes, I went too. Took a few (four) pictures with my friend's phone. They're not very good, unfortunately.

It's not very clear here but these guys were scary-looking.

Random stray cat a.k.a, for a while, King Mongkut. It joined us while we practiced marching in the parking lot but then got scared when we started to stomp our feet like mad. It's part of the ~exercise~.

What the girls had to wear. I'm not in the photo, lulz. I felt kind of ridiculous wearing those sashes especially when we were marching. Mine fell off my shoulder more than once, thankfully though not in front of HM. IF NOT HE WOULDVE POINTED AND LAUGHED AT ME. But that didn't happen.

My school bag. I also drew an amoeba with white-out and 'Moz <3 Marr 4eva' somewhere at the side.

It doesn't look it but, random photo of me taken at...5.30 this morning, just after I've woke up. Yes, we had to be at school before 6.45am. When we went back from the padang, it was already 11. We were supposed to go back at 10 but the buses got lost or something. It was terribly hot and uncomfortable, especially as we were wearing our school uniforms like in pic #3. And those stupid sashes.
