just coz ... [Oct. 4th, 2007|12:19 am]
[mood | silly]

For the first three people that reply to me and re-post this challenge - I will send you something that I think rocks.

It might be something I've made, or something cool, it might be a mix CD - or a rubber duck, a spoon (okay, not really), a book I think you will enjoy, or something else that is awesome.

Whatever it is, I promise that I will get it to you in 365 days or less. (I will need your snail mail if you want to participate.)

The only thing you need to do in order to participate is to be one of the first three to reply to this, AND post this very same thing on YOUR live journal - cause its fun to give people stuff.

:D

An Inconvenient Truth [Mar. 16th, 2007|10:33 pm]
[mood | contemplative]

I haven't posted in absolutely forever but watching this movie made me want to make a difference in any tiny way i can, and even if i convince the one or two people who check this journal to see this movie - thats a start !!

So go see the movie "An Inconvenient Truth"
You might think the topic a little boring,  but it honestly is the most interesting movie i have seen in a very very long time, and its scary.

To think that in just 50 years - half the map of the world will be underwater unless we make changes - thats OUR lifetime, in OUR lifetime my entire country could no longer exist - let alone the world were leaving to our children.

Watch the movie - it honestly is thought provokingly interesting, and maybe it will help us all make some small changes

to see what you can do to help save the earth :P

VERY GOOD MOVIE [Dec. 20th, 2005|10:41 pm]
Just saw a very cool movie called INSIDE I'M DANCING which i think my sister should perve at because it stars James McAvoy (aka: Tumnis from narnia), about 2 wheelchair bound guys. its really sweet, funny and touching. the kind of movie that you watch when you actually want to feel something!!

Narnia... [Dec. 15th, 2005|04:23 pm]
[mood |squee]

Saw the LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE the other night and loved it. I remember watching the old english bbc versions that my nana owned when i was growing up... have to say that the animals are so much more convincing!! I remember in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Reepicheep was just a little person in a chubby mouse suit, can't wait til they transform more of the books so i can see how he turns out. Aslan is so well done and the visual effects are funky (same software as lord of the rings).
Tumnis was cute - and in an odd way reminded me of Dom Monaghan and Billy Boyd as hobbits...

[mood | cheerful]

Our flat has become World of Warcraft crazy and im being swept along... i never tought i'd like a game that you had to keep paying for monthly - but its actually very funky... kinda like diablo in the style and quests, but so much bigger!! you never run out of stuff to do, things to kill or items to find.
besides my Night Elf Hunter is funky, not only does she have massive pointed ears and dance like a stripper, she has a pet wolf - "wolfie".

woot [Nov. 20th, 2005|04:50 am]
[mood | chipper]

Moved into the new place this weekend and are practically all unpacked... there's so much room in this place, you look out the windows and can see trees, its uber modern with a huge open kitchen, lounge and deck, 2 bathrooms, double garage, basically everything is new and shiny and finally oh so clean!!
- no giant clumps of hair sprouting from the floorboards
- no half naked cat that pisses on everything
- no fridge that smells of month old milk that people are too lazy to dump
- no crusty dishes piled high in a messy/manky kitchen
- no mouldy shower curtain in an equally mouldy bathroom
- no toilet that makes you want to shut your eyes when you enter
- no lounge full of flea ridden couches
- no flatmates we'd rather hide from than see everyday
The funny thing is if tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber had waited just two days before evicting us on a power trip we would have been giving them our 2 week notice and told them as we hadnt found replacements we were happy to continue paying rent all summer - as it is they saved us over $1000 (huge favour). So all in all i just hope theyre finally happy in thier hairy little world up to thier eyeballs in debt...

aww - no more boots growing on our front porch...
seriously our lawns were so long that weeds had snaked up onto the deck and kind of entangled themselves around one of the flatmates boots, it looked like we had some magical little vine that grew small shoes!!

christmas is coming... [Nov. 10th, 2005|12:02 pm]
[mood | touched]

Went out for lunch with Steve's folks the other day and some how we got onto the subject of christmas which im spending with them this year. They're actually getting a christmas tree just for me (they never bother) because Steve mentioned i've never had a christmas without one and wondered where their's was last year... cute huh? I expect it will just be a little fake one (and i didn't have the heart to say i've never has a christmas as far back as i can remmber with a fake tree either) but just the fact they thought about it and are getting me a tree is so squee!!
Steve's mum made me pick the first decoration - i got a fairy but shes not very traditional, infact she looks like a nikau palm with palm fronds for her skirt and berries and flowers in her hair - very funky and very much a kiwi christmas fairy.
Kind of parents in laws are so cute!!

[mood | contemplative]

well i haven't posted a real entry in absolutely forever... its not that i never do anything, it's just i never do anyting i want to remind myself about or think others would like to read!!
I'm finally finished all my assignments for the year, and no big history test looming over everything so i can start to breathe a little again. i got my final history mark back yesterday before the test and got another A (woot) so was sitting on 57/70% going into it... the test wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be (spent all my time writing american lit and shakespeare essays and really neglected to study)but i think i did well enough to get me a solid B or B+ (an A- if im as good at bullshitting my way through essays as i should be.
AnyhOw enough boring school stuff - i have 9 days to study for exams and then i'm free for summer!!
Steve and i brought ourselves a really nice rowing machine yesterday ($543) - thats a decent chunk of our savings gone but we both really wanted one and i'd love to lose some weight beofre summer - at least enough to fit into my board shorts nicely!!
speaking of board shorts - the sun ahs finally come out, i've been lying on the front lawn a lot lately - trying to gain a little bit of tan.. might have to give in and get some fake stuff to help speed me on my way... its funny how you always tan so much quicker when your already a little brown.
Start work fulltime at subway after exams (oh joy - 40 hours a week of sandwiches) - now i just need to work up the courage to ask for a payrise... speaking of work - i found a couple of cards worth of fake stamps there the otherday - people had been colour photocopying stamps then using them for free subs... sad!!

Cheer up charlie... [Sep. 9th, 2005|01:40 pm]
[mood | confused]

In relation to Charlie and the chocolate factory: I cant quite make up my mind if i like it or not...

I really liked the sets, the Bucket's leaning shack was awesome and the classic scene in Wonkas factory just put a whole new C.G spin on an amazing load of chocolate and goodies... but - I'm sad to say i hated the Oompa loompas, their singing was just annoying and the music was too loud to hear all the funky lyrics and underlying moral messages (and lets face it thats what the oompa loompa's are there for - to let all us kiddies know what is bad and how to avoid finding these vices in ourselves.)

I also really missed the bits of the story they cut out (floating fizzy drink sequence / lickable wallpaper "the schnozberries taste like schnozberries" / slugworth etc) and the whole factory part of the film seemed really rushed...

However i did love the characters, (Why did Violet come with her mum and Mike Teevee with his dad?) the kids were great, the grandparents the bestest (especially the deaf granma and the grumpy prick of a grandad) and as much as i love Johnny im confused as to if he was a good Wonka or not...

Overall film left me sad and confused - I remember Charlie so fondly as a kid, and although this version is supposed to have been closer to the book, i'm not sure how much i liked it. The movie had moments of greatness but wasn't what i hoped or thought it would be.

Conclusion:I'll have to read the book and see how it compares

soupish... [Aug. 29th, 2005|05:28 pm]
[mood | thoughtful]

This afternoon i made carrot and coriander soup - kind of bland i have to say (until i added chilli powder), and nowhere near as good as i remember my nana's being. But it's got me in a soupy mood and i've decided to try and make up a few little containers of soup to cram into the freezer as healthy alternatives to snacks!!
Mum has offered to pay for me to join weight watchers - but the prospect of sharing my weight with a bunch of strangers (albiet equally fat ones) scares me - so mum is sending me her points book and i think i'll just try doing it on my own a few weeks first!! - must invest in scales however.

If anyone has any YUMMY SOUP RECIPES - that don't contain lentils or split peas (bleuk!!) please post...
