| Birthday, karaoke and a trip to the ER |
[Dec. 7th, 2008|09:56 pm] |
I had a good weekend for the most part. Saturday was my birthday. 36. I feel pretty good about it. Although I'm not happy with my appearance/weight so much I realized I still look much younger than most of the moms in my playgroup that are my age and even a few years younger.
During the day Jonas and I went to a cookie exchange. It was fun and yummy and fattening. Not that I need any more fat. I say this as I take a bite of a chocolate marshmallow Santa. Wait, marshmallows are fat free. Does that mean it's good for me? *takes another bite* Well it tastes good anyway.
That night the entire family met up for dinner at Golden Phoenix for a tasty Chinese buffet. They have the best food. I went there for my birthday last year as well. Sadly Ed is not a huge fan of Chinese food.
Afterward Ed took Jonas home so Audrey and I went out to sing karaoke with a friend of mine, JJ. We had a fantastic time. The dj kept announcing that it was my birthday so guys kept buying us rounds of shots, not just for me but for all three of us. We sang and played cut throat pool all night. This was the first time I'd been out since Kira's birthday back in February. I just wish Ed could have been there but he had to watch Jonas. Plus we wouldn't have gotten all those free shots. lol
Today was beautiful so we decided to spend the day at McAllister Park. Ed wanted to ride the jumps as Jonas and I watched. We were barely there 20 minutes when after Ed's 3rd run he walks over to us and says 'We need to go to the hospital' as he shows me a hole in his right wrist. A nice gash down to the tendons and nerve. Luckily he missed the vein or it would have been hella worse. Apparently after he rode passed us and was a few jumps out of view, he lost control so he decided to toss his bike so he could land safely. It was a good plan except for the tree stump. No one even realized he'd crashed because he didn't yell out or curse or anything. He wasn't even dusty from hitting the ground, that's why we were all surprised when he came walking up holding his arm.
So family fun day ended up with a trip to the emergency room and 8 stitches. ( bloody pics ) |

I love garage sales. It's one of my favorite things to do. Here are some pics of my wonderful 'new' bedroom furniture I bought a couple of weeks ago:
I got this cool desk for my laptop and to do crafts on for $4! Not forty, four.

I got this awesome small armoire:

And a beautiful matching vanity:

I got both pieces for $50! The beveled mirror alone is worth $50. And since there was no way all three pieces would fit in my car, they put it on their flatbed and delivered it to my house for FREE!
On a crappy note, I have that awful stomach virus that's going around and have been throwing up today. UGH. I had to cancel a cookie exchange playdate that was suppose to be at my house tomorrow. I know I'll probably feel better by then but I don't want anyone else getting sick. |

Today is Ed's birthday. We had a great day. We went to the zoo. We were landed on by Lorikeets, nibbled on by mad goats and rode the train around Brackenridge Park. I decided to make Ed one of his favorite meals, chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and cream gravy. I have several cannisters on the counter with sugar, flour, etc. I make the coating, mixture of flour and seasonings and a bath of milk and egg. As I dredge the breasts, I see the flour mixture is not sticking and instead it is making a weird eggy batter. Whatever, I slather it on and toss the chicken into the fryer. I see that the coating does not stick at all and instead the chicken just has a thin layer that is almost like a glaze. I cut it open. It's tender and looks good. I serve some to Ed and myself. I take a bite. "Hmmm, this chicken tastes sweet. I mean it's good, just sweet." Ed takes a bite. "Did you put some honey on it?" "No, I didn't put anything sweet like that just fajita seasoning, paprika, and flou... OMG that wasn't flour! It was powered sugar!!" hahahahahaha. How funny is that?! I grabbed the wrong cannister and made a coating mixture with powered sugar and it caramelized on the chicken! hahahahahaha! Only the outside was sweet so we ate it anyways. Now Ed is having a sugar rush and my stomach is a little upset from to much sweet stuff. Ed just said his teeth hurt! hahahahaha! So how was your dinner? |

A couple of weeks ago Jonas and I went to Moxie Studios for a photo session. Nikki the photographer/studio owner needed models for an upcoming book she's making. Here is the first of the pics she's finished editing of Jonas. hopefully more to come. Jonas is wearing a hat crocheted by me for Bliss Boutique (wwww.BlissBoutique.etsy.com) and an adorable cow print cloth diaper.

Jonas modeling
This is the first pic from Jonas' modeling stint with Moxie Studios. |
Ed is off this whole week (9 days!). He has use it or lose it vacation days so he always takes the week off for his birthday and then again in May just before they expire. How nice. So we are going to go to the zoo sometime this week. Our anniversary is coming up this month (6 years, it doesn't feel like it). For a present my parents are getting us an annual family pass for the zoo. I also convinced them to buy me a 2 yr season pass for Sea World for my birthday and Christmas present. It's nice because if you buy now for next season you get the rest of this season free. Jonas is getting to the age where he will enjoy going so the pass will be useful and he's still free until he's 3 so we only need the one pass (Ed really doesn't care to go). My parents (who only live 2 miles from Sea World) and my niece all have passes so we'll be able to go with them a bunch.
As far as Bliss is doing, I am going to have a booth at an Oktober Fest for a local church. It will be my first show. How fun! I'm also thinking about doing one in New Braunfels in November but the set up is much more expensive. ginagwen, would you be interested in splitting a booth and selling your jewelry and such? Just an idea. Your hat has been ready, I'm trying to think of what else I can make/send you and then I'm going to pack it up. It will be this week I promise! Raye, I'm going to start sleeves this week also. |

So my little etsy site is up and running. I've had two sales. Both from friends. Thanks ginagwen for your support. We are in such dire need of cash right now it's not even funny and every little bit helps. I've never been broke before but now I know how it feels. It's quite scary. Anyhow enough with that.
I made a bunch of hats and a couple of cocoons for a local photographer to use as props. Here is a link to her blog: http://moxiephoto.typepad.com/ The little stocking cap in the pics is mine.

She also used one of my cocoons for a photo shoot (awesome!).

I didn't get any money for the items but instead I am swapping photos of Jonas for them, which in the long run will be much better.
Here is a link to my etsy so you can see the new items: www.blissboutique.etsy.com
I have also started a myspace for my little business at http://www.myspace.com/bliss_boutique
Check 'em out!
I need to post some pics of Jonas. He is getting so big and is incredibly active. Of course the day he started walking was the day he stopped listening to us. Little bad boy, climbing all over the furniture, into his highchair, up the ladder while daddy was on it. He's too cute though. He says about 8 words, does a little bit of sign language, and can make animal sounds. The lion roaor is his favorite. He also babbles A LOT! But I have no idea what he's saying. He does repeat the same 'phrases' over again so I know to him they have some kind of meaning and are the building blocks to words but I have no idea what he's talking about. For now here is a picture of him in a Jovie hat.

I haven't posted in forever. We're doing great even though we're broke, but being at home with Jonas is amazing. He'll be 15mo in a couple of days. He's a little monkey. He climbed into his high chair, three times. He thinks he's a big kid and tries to do everything they do on the playground.
We're trying cloth diapers. One baby goes through about 7500 diapers from birth through potty training. That's a lot of diapers in the landfill. And it's not like they break down quickly. The main thing for us is the financial savings. We spend about $650 a year on disposable diapers. We can spend about $175 on a cloth diapers and will be set until he's potty trained. I still use some disposables, mainly at night and when I know he's going to poop (he's sticks pretty close to a schedule), and because I don't have enough cloth ones yet. A good supply for his age is about 24 plus 3-4 covers. I have about 5 that I've used and 10 more that I just got and need to wash to prep/soften them. They are pretty easy to use. Gone are the days of safety pins and worrying about sticking the baby (or yourself). Everything is velcro these days. Plus there are flushable liners for poop.
I think I mentioned we're part of a couple of SAHM playgroups. Jonas is really enjoying them. He's still having problems with acting inappropriately when he's excited or overstimulated. He hasn't bit again but he is still really grabby and pinchy, especially with babies that can't walk yet. Maybe they're easy prey hahaha.
I tried giving him a haircut. It wasn't tooooo bad but not great. He sat still pretty good for a while (I sat him in the bath tub and gave him a popsicle) until he got hot and itchy form the hair being on him. Then he got upset. It took longer than I thought it would because I didn't have real clippers. The ones I had were beard trimmers so there wasn't a real guard on it and I ended up going shorter and shorter trying to even it out and there were a couple of, I wouldn't call them bald spots but the hair was definitely shorter, kinda like when I gave Ed a mohawk. hahaha.
Amber stayed with us for most of the week since she's finished with kindergarten and her summer school/day care doesn't start until next week. She's a good little girl but having two little ones to watch is a handful. Thursday afternoon the kids and I headed to my parent's house. Jonas and I stated until this morning and Amber is staying until tomorrow when my parents will bring her back home to Canyon Lake. Thursday night I went with my Dad, Matthew, Kira, and their friend Bob to the Mission's baseball game. It's the first game I've gone to this season. We should bring jonas one time, especially if it's a day game (and not blistering hot). |

Jonas and I joined a stay at home mom group on meetup dot com. We've had about 8 meetups. Some at people's houses, some at parks, one at storytime at the library, and today at Freddy's Frozen Custard. We're having a great time. Jonas gets to play with a bunch of other kids and I get to socialize a little. |
