the truth was, I had to get out front. I was after total immortality. I couldn't sleep nights, thinking about how famous I could be. I was terrified I would die before I left my mark in the world. That summer ... I went to an auction and bought a tool set--some chisels and a ball peen hammer so fuckin' heavy I could hardly carry it. I stole some goggles from Uncle Ernie's workbench and went out to this huge granite boulder behind Papa's Cabin. .. This rock was a size of a tank, and I spent a couple days chiseling my initials into it so future generations would know `Steven Tallarico` was here.
`Immortality.` It's not much to ask for, is it? I wanted to sing on a record so after I died I'd still be singing. That way I could live forever.
