And so it begins again:

I am sometimes amazed at the things that Bush pulls out of his
ass. He really doesn't give a flying fart about "the little people".
Thanks for reading this.

Last night, President Bush nominated a right-wing lawyer and corporate
lobbyist to take Justice O'Connor's seat on the Supreme Court.

In nominating John Roberts, the president has chosen a right wing
corporate lawyer and ideologue for the nation's highest court instead
of a judge who would protect the rights of the American people. Here's
a list of some of the things that make Roberts the wrong pick for the
Supreme Court:

     - Wrong on environmental protection: Roberts appears to want to
limit the scope of the Endangered Species Act, and in papers he
wrote while in law school he supported far-right legal theories
about "takings" which would make it almost impossible for the
government to enforce most environmental legislation.

     - Wrong on civil rights: Roberts worked to keep Congress from
defending parts of the Voting Rights Act.

     - Wrong on human rights: As a appeals court judge, Roberts ruled
that the Geneva Convention doesn't apply to some prisoners of
       war.

     - Wrong on our right to religious freedom: Roberts argued that
schools should be able to impose religious speech on attendees.

     - Wrong on women's rights: Roberts wrote that "Roe v. Wade was
wrongly decided and should be overruled." He also weighed in on
behalf of Operation Rescue, a violent anti-abortion group, in a
       federal case.

President Bush could have chosen many fair-minded and independent
jurists to replace Sandra Day O'Connor. Instead, he chose a corporate
partisan loved by Bush's right-wing base but out of step with the rest
of the country.

I signed the petition at MoveOn.org, and I'm gonna post a link on my LJ to encourage others to do the same. This guy is far from moderate, and therefore not a very fitting replacement for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. Fortunately, I doubt if it'll take too long for the Senate to bork this fruitcake....

thanks for you assistance and support! I would love to believe that the Senate would toss this one out. However, I am wondering if this is a play by Bush. And the next one he'll propose won't be *so* extreme so he'll think it'll be a "gimme" and while not so extreme, may not be so "obvious". Does that fear make sense to anyone reading this? Politics: shi-i-i-i-it!

I'm trying to read this to comment, but there's something screwy in the HTML that is making the page stretch all the way from one side to the other... so I'm having to scroll horizontally as well as vertically.

Just an FYI, I'll try to read again later.

Interesting ...

My only regret is that I did not know this sooner ... I'd peg you for a liberal just because you are from California ... but I thought I would give you the benefit of the doubt. If by fair-minded and independent you mean incapable of making a decision and safely ruling as the minority on sensitive, politically-charged decisions I agree that Mr. Roberts is not the right choice. Hee ... "right" choice ...

GOD help us and this planet if MoveOn has ANYTHING to do with it.

Re: Interesting ...

Oh I'm not a liberal! You must have missed that post I did where I lamented that I did not have a "place" and by place I of course mean a label! I'm an idealistic realist (or a pessimistic optimist or something like that).

And trust me when I say this: Californians are *not* liberals. That state has some of the most over regulated regulations on civil liberties in the nation! It's not called "The Peoples' Republic of California" for nothing you know.
