Mardil has lived an uncomplicated life so far. He is the middle child in a family of boys, all of whom went to Gondolin and all of whom were members of the King’s Guard. His eldest brother Vorondil was killed in the Nirnaeth, and Mardil was subsequently promoted in his place. His younger brotherereldo is a guard stationed at the Gate of Stone. Mardil held the rank of Lieutenant in the city for many years, and was briefly Acting Captain while Halatir was on leave.
More recently, he was given the post of Captain of Prince Argon's new personal guard, a job he rather enjoys. He also got engaged to Mithiel, a lady he met through his work investigating a case of attempted arson, and they mean to marry after the traditional one-year waiting period is up. He views her as the ideal of Noldor womanhood, often forgetting that she is Sindar.
