Women And Children First

Things are heating up in Gellerupparken. First the stabbing. And last night a kindergarten was burnt to the ground. I’m getting a little tired of seeing my neighbourhood on the news.

While the stabbing was right around the corner, the kindergarten was a little further away. But it’s still scary. I mean the apartment next door to me is a kindergarten! I sure hope it’s not some lunatic who wants to burn down all kindergartens in the neighbourhood… The one that was burnt down was in a building of its own though, not just in an apartment. Police say they’re sure it was arson. What is wrong with people these days? Burning down kindergartens. How low can you get. At least it happened at night and no one got hurt.

The news on the stabbing is that the guy who did it was mentally unstable. He had previously attacked someone with a knife. Family and neighbours had repeatedly warned the police about him. He was getting medication I think, but it took a succesful murder for him to get picked up and taken off the streets. Hopefully they can keep him locked up. People interviewed were scared he’d be set loose and attack others again. So basically it seems that the stabbing was more about his mental instability than about a family feud. He might have attacked anyone. I was outside here around the time it happened, it could have been me. And the voices and scooter roaring I heard last night, those could have been the people who went and burned down the kindergarten. It is some crazy stuff.

It almost makes you scared to go outside. I braved it, though. Got my laundry done today. With no dizziness. And no lost socks. So that is all good. Tomorrow I really need to go see the goats. I didn’t go all last week because of the sickness. I can’t remember the last time I went so long without seeing them. So it’s long overdue. In the meantime Laura pointed my attention to Fleet Foxes - He Doesn’t Know Why. Perhaps the best music video ever made. Lookit all them goats! Awesome.

Be careful out there.

And you need something to wake up for, when I'm gone...

Hm. It's been a little while hasn't it?

Well....mostly because of school, and animal drama. Midterms and fall break are happening, so there's the school aspect. My beloved Demo may or may not have gotten rabies from another stray cat that may or may not have it Friday morning. So we took him to get a rabies shot on Saturday, and hopefully he'll be fine. And then Saturday night, after being at the bestie's house doing our PHIL 115 midterm, my mom and I came home to find a 6-8 week old kitten on the porch. It had begun to follow Demo around, taking him as his/her parent, but Demo wasn't having that. We finally caught it and until she calms enough for us to bathe her we're keeping her outside in a big FedEx box. She looks almost exactly like my baby Tori did when she was a kitten, but we can't tell the sex yet. (Although I hope it's a girl, can you tell?) Here's the comparison, with Tori on the right.

Photobucket

She's very sweet now that I've let her know I won't hurt her. I can't think of a name, though. I used up all my unique-ness when I named the other 3 cats. (Tori, Demo, and Cordelia.) If any of you creative ladies have a suggestion, I'd appreciate it. =)

And ooh! State fair tomorrow...woot!

Song Format(s): .mp3

DayGlo- Iglu & Hartly
they call me day glo in the day i glo
they call me night light in the night im bright

two of my friends are obsessed with Iglu and Hartly, so i was made to watch a filming of a gig they were in. Nonetheless, It's catchy, electronic, pop (like flaming lips on speed) and this one is currently lodged in my head.

Girls Aloud- Racey Lacey
she's made seduction a work of art
a PHD with her legs apart

this song makes me laugh, i love the whitty lyrics. It's from the album biology, and my favourite Girls Aloud song..even though its unreleased.

He's A Pirate- Pete and Red's Jolly Roger
Its Pirates of the caribbean theme tune with a dance remix. It's an alltime favourite.

World Spins Madly On- The Weepies
The Whole world keeps moving
im standing still

this song is love. its so beautiful and depressing at the same time. there's some good boy-girl harmoneys too.

New Slang- The Shins
New slang when you notice the stripes, the dirt in your fries.
Hope it's right when you die, old and bony

one of my favourite songs. ever. It was in Garden State, by the by..

U.R.A.Q.T- M.I.A
Dt-Dt-Dt On your mobile phone
Dt-Dt-Dt On your mobile phone
You Fuck my Man and Wreck my home,
I'll get my bro to rob your phone
You Big Dummy
Now Could it be that me and He
Are tighter than J-lo in her jeans

my favourite from Arular. Its so catchy and amazing, with of course a lyric i like to sing randomly (J-lo jeans)

Damn You look Good and Im Drunk (Scandalous)- Cobra Starship (feat. V.I.P partyboys)

Let's get to it!

I figure it's about time I put up some songs that I love. It's a pretty random mix, so hopefully there's something for eeeeeeeeeeveryone!

Moulin Rouge! "El Tango de Roxanne" (mp3)
This song gives me absolute chills, depsite the fact that I actually don't like the song "Roxanne".

Josh Groban "America" (originally by Paul Simon) (m4p)
"Kathy, I'm lost," I said, though I knew she was sleeping
I'm empty and aching and I don't know why

AFI "Silver and Cold" (wma)
When I first heard this song, it gave me an instant feeling of nostalgia, like I had heard it before.

Angels and Airwaves "Breathe" (mp3)
Stars fall like dust, our lips will touch.
We speak too much.

Doves "Caught By The River" (mp3)
would you give it all away now?
don't let it come apart
don't want to see you come apart
son what are you doing?
you learned a hard lesson

The Beach Boys "Don't Worry Baby"(wma)
She makes me come alive
And makes me wanna drive
When she says dont worry baby
Dont worry baby
Dont worry baby
Everything will turn out alright

Bjork "All Is Full of Love" (wma)
Very haunting and lovely.

Bryan Adams "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman" (mp3)
This song is one of the sexiest songs I can think of and I absolutely LOVE the spanish guitar.

Joshua Radin "Winter" (m4p)
I discovered him while watching Scrubs. I want to have Zach Braff's musical babies. His taste in music is so magical and there's nothing he's put to use that I haven't liked.

Craig Armstrong "Your Song" (mp3)
A lovely instrumental version of Your Song used in the film Moulin Rouge!

Best of You - Stereophonics (Foo Fighters Cover)
You Sexy Thing - Stereophonics (Hot Chocolate Cover)
Black and Gold - Adele (Sam Sparro Cover)
Beautiful Girls - Plain White Ts (Sean Kingston Cover) - Quite Accapella :)
No One Knows - Razorlight (Queens of the Stoneage Cover)
Teardrop - Jose Gonzales (Massive Attack Cover)
Exit Music (For a Film) - Vampire Weekend (Radiohead Cover)
Munich - REM (Editors Cover)
Creep - Korn (Radiohead Cover) - Remarkably endearing
Back to Black - Elbow (Amy Winehouse Cover)
Baby One More Time - Travis (Britney Spears Cover)
Hey There Delilah - Sugababes (Plain White Ts Cover)
This Modern Love - Final Fantasy (Bloc Party Cover) - Highly Reccomended

Can I just point out how exceptionally good Stereophonics are at covers? They're fantastic; if you havent heard them do "Nothing Compares To You"... honestly your tear ducts havent experienced anything like it.

Mørkeleg

I did a little shopping today. And the world did not spin. No dizzy mizz Plume. So that’s good. My nose still blocks up if I don’t spray it, but other than that I think I’m pretty okay. I didn’t even take a nap today.

On a slightly more grim note, someone was stabbed to death in Gellerup today. I didn’t even know about it until I saw Desirée’s note. It happened after I did my shopping, so I haven’t been outside. And I guess the police have been quiet enough that I didn’t hear them. I’m not sure exactly where it happened, but it was on Gudrunsvej. Which is my group of apartment blocks. I think there are 4-5 blocks, though. I’m sure I would have noticed the police if it had been in my block. So it must be in one of the blocks up the road. But still. That’s just next door.

The news say that it’s a 48 year old male who died. And that they have arrested a 28 year old family member. Assuming that they got the right guy, then at least that makes me feel a little “better”. Better being a wrong word of course. But if it was just some random teenage stabbing then I’d feel a bit more unsafe. If it’s a family dispute then it’s more.. contained? Not something I’d be likely to get involved with. Not someone outside random windows with a butcher knife and a psychotic grin.

But still tragic and shocking of course. And now it’s time to go to bed and read some Stephen King. I find the real world a lot scarier than his books. Funny that.

PS. Congrats Stu, you lucky chap!

Geeeez.

Song Format(s): .mp3.

1. Cursive - "A Gentleman Caller"
Who told you love was fleeting?
Sometimes men can be so misleading
To take what they need from you
Whatever you need to make you feel
Like you've been the one behind the wheel
The sunrise is just over that hill
The worst is over

2. Bruce Springsteen - "The Ghost of Tom Joad"
Shelter line stretchin' round the corner
Welcome to the new world order
Families sleepin' in their cars in the southwest
No home no job no peace no rest
The highway is alive tonight
But nobody's kiddin' nobody about where it goes
I'm sittin' down here in the campfire light
Searchin' for the ghost of Tom Joad

3. The Lawrence Arms - "Ghost Stories"
When you wake up you won't remember anything
But that night the ghosts wailed in the windstorm
Cries sharp like a crescent moon
A sickle grazed against the skin

4. Hot Water Music - "Giver"
Dream wild in waves of confidence and heart
Don't underestimate the power of your part
Throw the rules away, trust your gut and make it
On your own

5. Hot Water Music - "God Deciding"
So who will pay for all the tears, all the lives, from either side?
All the years, all the time of living blind playing "god deciding"
Who will die next in line for the lie justified
For the rise of sitting high playing "god deciding"?
And who will walk away from the rage and revenge?
Inhumane consequence comes in time playing "god deciding"

6. Andrew Jackson Jihad - "God Made"
God made guns and god made knives
He ruined all these God-made lives
God made knives and god made guns
God is having so much fun with us
Heaven is a special place in hell
Where you can watch the people you hate get hurt

7. Tom Waits - "Goin' Out West"
I'm gonna drive all night, take some speed
I'm gonna wait for the sun to shine down on me
I cut a hole in my roof in the shape of a heart
And I'm goin' out west
Where they'll appreciate me

8. The Bouncing Souls - "Gone"
It was a darkness all my own
A song played on the radio
But it went straight to my heart
I carried it with me until the darkness was gone

9. Alkaline Trio - "Goodbye Forever"
It's getting clearer, the end is closer than ever before
And you'll want nothing more when your head hits the floor
And you're lost in the darkness
And we say goodbye and go underground, or up towards the sky
Up in smoke burnt, down to size
At least we're still friends, at least we're still alive

10. Andrew Jackson Jihad - "Growing Up"
Growing up really fucking sucks
I've fallen down and I can't get up
And soon I'm not gonna bother
I'm gonna lay on the ground 'til I die
And I'm afraid I don't care

HALLOWEEN PLAYLIST

Okay, I know Halloween is still a few weeks away but I thought I would try and get you all in the mood.

Song Format(s): mp3/m4a

1. Waking The Witch - Kate Bush
I saw somebody describe this song as 'sex with Satan' and I think it fits perfectly. Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

2. Ghost Song - Patrick Wolf
"While I'm asleep
My spirit crawls out
Of my belly button
And goes down to the sea"

3. The Devil - PJ Harvey
"As soon as I'm left alone
The devil wanders into my soul

And I pretend to myself
And I pretend to myself"

4. No Lucifer - British Sea Power
Incredibly beautiful violins in this song and haunting lyrics.

5. Bat's Mouth - Bat For Lashes
Beautiful and chilling.

6. Ghouls - We Are Scientists
A more mature sound from W.A.S.

7. Cat Power - Werewolf
Originally by Michael Hurley, this a haunting cover version.

8. Screaming Skull - Sonic Youth
"Screaming skull, Husker Du
I'd go there, but I don't care"

9. All You Need Is Blood - Test Icicles
"Crack me open and watch my yolk.
Splutter out into your arms
Or at least it would if you had your arms open."

10. Ghosts - Siobhan Donaghy
Ghostly and captivating. Much of the music is reversed to make it even more mysteriously beautiful.
A little about the song, why it's special to you, or just a few lines of the lyrics.

The Great Big No

This is for everyone - my voting-age Lovelies in California, and the people that know and/or like/love us. :-)

There's a proposition (Prop 8) on the November ballot that will eliminate the right for same-sex couples to get married. If it passes, Kellie and I - as well as many other couples - may find ourselves "unmarried".

The Yes on 8 supporters are really strong - and the Mormon Church is getting in on the act, telling their members to rally their friends, families and others around them to vote yes. The mere fact that the church is getting into politics really chaps my ass - is there any way to petition for them to lose their tax-exempt status? :-X

In all seriousness, the No on 8 folks are losing their lead because the opposition is raising boatloads of money - which translates into getting their message (teh homosexuals are getting married - and they're going to corrupt The ChildrenTM!) out to far more people.

So, if you're in California - Get out and vote on November 4th, and please Vote NO on Prop 8! Also, please volunteer to help the No on 8 efforts, if you can.

If you're out of the state, or can't volunteer any time, and still want to help, please donate to No on Prop 8 - http://www.noonprop8.com.

Thank you very much for hearing (or reading) me out, and thanks in advance for your support!

Love to all,

Carly

i'm the kind to sit up in my room.

Song Format(s): Varies but ALL are iTunes compatible.

1. Slow Down - The Academy Is..
I regret everything that I said
To ever make her feel like she was something special
Or that she ever really mattered.
Or did she ever really matter?

2. Like A Race Car - Hawk Nelson
It's six in the morning here.
I lay awake I'm waiting for my mind to clear up
So I can rewind and just count myself to sleep.

3. Speeding Cars - Imogen Heap
The papercuts; the cheating lovers.
The coffee's never strong enough.
I know you think it's more than just bad luck.
There, there, baby, it's just text book stuff.
It's in the ABC of growing up.
Now, now, darling. Oh, don't lose your head.
Cause none of us were angels,
And you know I love you.

4. Suppose - Secondhand Serenade
My eyes are screaming for the sight of you
And tonight I'm dreaming of all the things that we've been through
And I can't hold on to you.
So I guess I feel lonely, too.
But I'd rather be here with you.

5. Are You Happy Now? - Michelle Branch
Don't just walk away,
Pretending everything's okay.
And you don't care about me,
And I know there's just no use,
When all your lies become your truths and I don't care.

6. Dead Wrong - The Fray
Mine is not a new story.
Mine is not a new story.
Mine is nothing new,
But it is for me.

7. Gravity - Atomic Tangerine
You lift me up, but before I know it,
You bring me down to the ground.
Do you even know the way I feel for you?
Do you really know the shit you put me through?

8. One Year, Six Months - Yellowcard
So many nights, legs tangled tight.
Wrap me up in a dream with you.
Close up these eyes, try not to cry.
All that I've got to pull me through is memories of you.

9. Already Gone - Eagles
Well I know it wasn't you who held me down.
Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free.
So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains.
And we never even know we have the key.

10. Quits - Treaty Of Paris
You wrestled your demons,
Left them with no reason.
I always thought you had thicker skin.
There's a hole in the ceiling,
If you looked up you'd see it.
Maybe then you would quit hitting your head.

Bonus! California Rain - Silvertide
Inside this heart that smiles no more,
Lies the ghost of a love so beautiful.
And all the time,
The rain inside my mind
Goes on and on and on and on and on.

Plume And The Chocolate Factory

Almost feeling a little better I think maybe. My nose is still plugged if I don’t use the spray, though. And I’m not completely sure if the world will still be slanting to the right if I decide to go out. I have staid in today.

The electrician came and put up my lamps. A jolly, nice chap. And it went just fine. Now I have light in the hallway. So that’s good. One less thing to worry about.

If you’re sick of hearing about me being sick then here is an animal video instead: www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2QPu6JXnvE. Gertrude the pig. Being fed an apple by Plume the human. When you hold out an apple to her she’ll open up her mouth and it’s almost like you can try to throw the apple in there, like some ball tossing game in a carnival. I don’t toss it though, that wouldn’t be very nice. I just pop it gently in there. I like how she gets all excited, like most animals do when they know they’re going to be fed.

All for now. Early bed for me. Happy weekend to you.

PS. I got a bottle of Tyrkisk peber. Hot sweets mixed with vodka, I think. It’s yummy, and practically the only real alkyhol that I like. So maybe that’s why I’m all dizzy after all?
No no, I’m a very moderate drinker. Hiccup.

Since people are comparing Palin to Hitler now...

By the way, Hitler promised the Germans he would take the money from the evil rich too. He just went a step further and blamed the Jews for hoarding the money. He was so good at using this hatred for the rich, he got the people to standby and let him kill the Jews. So be careful.

beautifuk

Sometimes I wish I had something beautiful. This world is so ugly. Dirty. You remind me of a whore when you're on your knees. We are germs crawling thtough the filth. I know there is something beautiful, there has to be. Scrape away the cakes of mud, maybe undeneath there is a flower. I love you as you love me. I'll be under your stairs forever.

1. Cardiac Arrest - Madness
Papers in the morning
Bowler hat on head
Walking to the bus stop
He's longing for his bed

This is a song about a guy who has a heart attack due to too much stress at work. It's quite upbeat for such a depressing topic, and the beginning is awesomely creepy--it sounds like the beating of a human heart.

2. Marvelous Things - Eisley
I followed a rabbit through rows of mermaid entwined Shrubbery
Ah ah....
Oh what marvelous things but, they are, they are, they are
Giving me the creeps

Eisley's voice is yet another one of those marvelous things. I absolutely love this song. It's exquisitely disturbing.

3. I So Wanted (English Version) - Rie Fu
Don't run to summer time, It's just nostalgia.
Don't run to summer time, It's just the radio.
The surface could be sweet but poisonous inside.

This song is absolutely beautiful. Rie Fu is a wonderful singer, whose English work is every bit as good as her Japanese. This song is about not getting exactly what you want, but finding a way to accept it anyway.

4. Teenage Dirtbag (Wheatus Cover) - Girls Aloud
Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Yeah I'm just a teenage dirtbag baby
Listen to Iron Maiden baby with me

A lot of people know the original, and while the original can sometimes be a bit of a strain on the ears (though I love it), these girls give a kick ass performance that smoothes out some of the original's rough edges.

5. Biko - Bloc Party
So I keep writing these songs for you
To steal you from your grave
We can dance in our front room, again

This song may have already come up on here (or another music community), but it's so amazing that anyone who missed it needs it, anyway. The lyrics are heartbreaking. I literally cried the first time I heard this song.

6. Antihistamine - Balsa Gliders
I can't breathe, I can't breathe
I need an antihistamine
They come in yellow green and off-orange, they all do the same for me

The Balsa Gliders are an obscure little band from the South who I've fallen completely in love with. This is the first song I ever heard by them, and it's a song that's about, as you can see by the title, allergy medication. If that's not an awesome subject for a song then I don't know what is.

7. Nancy Boy - Placebo
Kind of buzz that lasts for days
Had some help from insect ways
Comes across all shy and coy
Just another nancy boy.

This song is just plain cool. Placebo's vocals take a little getting used to, but once you do, they're great, and the song is just energetic and fun, even though the subject matter might not be so much.

8. Hospital Beds - Cold War Kids
There's nothing to do here
Some just whine and complain
In bed in the hospital

This is one of my more recent acquisitions. It's a fairly depressing song about someone who's dying in a hospital, but the tone isn't quite as hopeless as the subject is. It's an excellent song, in my opinion.

9. I Don't Want To Get Drafted - Frank Zappa
Roller skates in disco is a lot of fun.
I'm too young'n stupid to operate a gun.

Frank Zappa's songs are some of the most bizarre, hilarious, and downright disturbing songs I've ever heard in my life, and I've never heard a single one I didn't like. This is my current favorite, which is about, as the title states, not wanting to get drafted.

10. Billie Jean (Michael Jackson Cover) - Chris Cornell
Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son

Chris Cornell takes Michael Jackson's classic and slows it down. Makes you really think about the lyrics.
