I am supposed to be writing an essay on why the Howard government decided to intervene in East Timor during it's tumultuous struggle for independence from Indonesia, instead I'm here.
For those of you who are interested, it wasn't simply to put an end to bloodshed, but because of the rich oil and gas reserves in the Timor Sea that the government wanted to ensure it could still steal. They also wanted to stop other territories such as Aceh rising up and doing the same, so calming down the country meant they could show Indonesia that they wanted to be good mates with a common goal.
Now I've just gotta put that into 2000 words, with references.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
