| Joanie on Ashley Paige? |
[27 Jul 2008|12:37am] |
|
So I was watching the Ashley Paige: Bikini or Bust episode called "The Show Must Go On," where Ashley has two weeks to create a new line for LA fashion week, and I could have sworn one of the models she interviewed was Joanie Dodds of Cycle 6. She was wearing sunglasses, and when she spoke it sounded just like her. Ashley thought she had a boob job, but possible Joanie said they were natural because she was 22. That threw me because she would be what? 25 now? 26? So I am not sure, but I was hoping one of you saw the ep and could confirm or deny. I can't find any screencaps to get a better look, and it's been driving me crazy!

So. I posted here a while ago, I had dreadlocks and desired to cut them. I finally did. I have photos of the process and I will probably edit this later on, but for now I want some feedback of the result. For what my hair looked like before: http://community.livejournal.com/curlyhair/1172809.html
This is what it is now, a big difference and you can't really even see the curls but.. they're there hehe.

| Aimee Wright Looking Not Quite Modelesque |
[26 Jul 2008|09:17pm] |
I was poking around the Cycle 10 board on TWoP and was thinking of Aimee since someone posted a couple of photos of her here earlier and I was hoping perhaps she was getting some jobs. Errr...no, she's not. But I did find a couple of photos of her on the board and they leave much to be desired. Apparently a cafe in Puyallup, WA, Caffe Adamo, had an event encouraging girls to come in dressed up like "models" in order to receive a discount. You will soon see why "models" is in quotes.

| Heather from Cycle 9 |
[24 Jul 2008|03:40pm] |
At the moment, Living Channel are doing all the cycles of ANTM, and I'm kinda addicted. The last cycle didn't really do it for me, but this cycle I am completely taken with Heather. She is absolutely stunning. We are down to the last 8 at the moment so I am not sure what happens from now on; Ebony has just done her dramatic exit.
I know who wins it and considering what I am seeing at present, she needs to up her game in the next 7 episodes (IMHO). I am kinda hoping that Heather wasn't eliminated because of her disability. We shall see.

| Ken Mok talks with afterellen.com about cycle 11 girl |
[26 Jul 2008|09:00am] |
AfterEllen.com: It's been several seasons on Top Model since there was a lesbian or bi contestant. Can we expect anything this next cycle? Ken Mok: I think you'll have just as much variety of contestants on the show as you've had in every cycle. It's not a bland bunch.
AE: You can't confirm any gay contestants this year? KM: I think I can. There is a contestant on the show this year who is a lesbian, and expresses herself incredibly well and articulately, and is a great, positive influence on the show.
AE: Do you know what her name is? Have you released those names yet? KM: We haven’t released the names, but she's a real contender on the show, very capable girl.

Top Model for girls with disabilities, video at ( youtube )
I'm not sure what I think about it... they're all beautiful and amazing (and inspiring for sure) girls, and while I'm sure some could be good at specific things, I find it hard that any high fashion or commercial agents would hire any of them in the same way they'd hire a non-disabled girl. I mean, the entire industry is based on what is physically considered perfect. It's not exactly the type of industry where hard work is all that's needed to get ahead...

I made a discovery a few days ago and just thought I would share. For a long time I was really frustrated with dealing with my hair. Everyone had been telling me that I had to get it wet everyday. So, I would get out of bed in the morning about two hours early just so that I would have time to wet it, gel it, and then dry it. I hated this because I am very much a minimalist, I don't like spending a long time on hair or make-up. So one morning I decided not to wet my hair and put gel in my DRY hair instead. And it came out AMAZING!!
Here is what I do now instead of spending all my time in the morning dealing with my wet hair *this will probably not work for all types of curls though. If your hair is more wavy then curly, I don't know if it will work. If you hair is more the ringlet texture, curls that hold together when they curl, it should work pretty well* : 1. section hair into three parts. One at the very top of the head, one at the middle/back of the head, and one at the nape. 2. take down the hair that was at the nape. Take a small amount of gel or mousse and apply to each curl. Yes, that's right! You do each curl separately! No need for scrunching, which for me causes severe frizz. 3. do each section, working your way up, until all curls are coated. After this I will sometimes flip my head over and shake my hair out or lightly scrunch with a towel. But that's it! You're all done!!! This cuts down immensely on time. It also saves on the amount of gel/mousse, and saves my hair from being damaged be the heat of a diffuser every single day. I tried using an anti-frizz lotion, instead of gel or mousse, on my hair this morning and it worked great as well. Next I am going to experiment with a leave in conditioner and a tiny bit of mousse for hold. I hope someone finds all of this useful. It was getting very frustrating for me, so to finally find a different way to do my hair was a miracle. I don't think I'll ever go back to wetting my hair every day ever again.

| Bare in San Francisco |
[24 Jul 2008|10:15am] |
On Tuesday, we presented a first-look at the rock musical bare , which we are bringing to San Francisco in 2009 in a major production. (Please join our email list at the site!) The cast, comprised of notable talent from New York and SF, sang selected songs from the show, including some of my favorites: "Are You There?," "Role of a Lifetime," "A Quiet Night at Home." Heading up the team was Stafford Arima, director of Altar Boyz and the West End Production of Ragtime. Reps from TRW in New York were out as well. The evening was capped with a crazy hot-tub party at one of my investors' homes at the top of San Francisco's gorgeous Eureka Valley. What an evening!
Here is a picture of me with the incredible cast and some of the backers. On the far left is James Snyder, who just concluded the title role in CryBaby on Broadway. Next to him is the adorable and talented Michael Buchanan, also from that show. Next to me on the right is Sarah Farrell, the star of Insignificant Others, my show in San Francisco (now in its second year!) Stay tuned for news... Cross-posted at musicaltheatre

Hello! I'm new in the community and I must say this seems to be the place where I'll find the answer for my question... The thing is that I want to dye my hair but not completely....like maybe the under layer or something...preferably black or dark brown My question is....would that work? Does anyone have any suggestions? Or even better, pictures of cool dyed curly hair?
I also would like getting it cut but dunno which style... And important factor is that I'm studying to be a chef and I wear a stupid white chef hat most of the time which makes me end up with 'hat hair' =_= Thanks for your time :B

| 100th Performance of "Insignificant Others," and First Look at "bare" |
[22 Jul 2008|12:43am] |
It's been a week of milestones, with our 100th performance of Insignificant Others at PIER 39 in San Francisco on Saturday, an unexpected lunch meeting with one of the producers of the new Broadway hit [Title of Show], and later today...drum roll please!
I'm so excited to be co-presenting a sneak peek at the musical "bare" which is coming to San Francisco with a major production in 2009 if all goes well. Today I met some very cool talent involved with the project, including Stafford Arima (the director Altar Boyz in NYC and Ragtime in London's West End), and Broadway leading man James Snyder (Crybaby). And I'm thrilled that our own Sarah Farrell from Insignificant Others is singing the part of Nadia. The backers presentation is a selection of songs from the show, being performed in concert at the Zeum Theatre (where Insignificant Others got its commercial start last year) tomorrow at 6pm. Fans of the show, keep an ear out for the announcement of the show's opening in 2009! (If you haven't heard of this show, you should definitely check it out.)
Most of the major backers of my shows will be there as well, as well as some suits and producers from NYC. Fingers crossed for a very cool evening!

As I was flipping through the channels, finding something to watch, Heather showed up on the screen, and thinking it was a Cycle 9 marathon, I quickly went back to watch it. But instead I found myself watching MADE to MTV, talking to the person who had Aspergers.
But Heather was doing a photoshoot, and I was wondering if anybody else caught the airing, at 5:00, because I can't find them anywhere. You can find Heather about 40 minutes into the episode.

ah, thailand... so. um. i haven't update in a while cuz i've been spending every second of my free time with rock. oh my gosh, rock... the most gorgeous man i have ever laid my eyes on. i'm not evern joking you. he is... gorgeous. he is a muay thai boxing legend around here, he is one of the thai workers here at the project, and he is 26, and he is incredible. ah. we went to go see batman last night, he taught me how to ride a manual motorbike, we are going fishing once i finish this update, and he is so gorgeous. i need to stop saying that, it's getting obnoxious. ah. but he is. i can't hardly stand it.
we got a puppy 2 nights ago. our dog, cow, got another dog pregnant and she had 15 puppies. so we took one. he is so freaking adorable, he is teeny tiny, black and white, and oh so soft and cuddly. he sleeps with rock and meee. i want to name him elephante, but we will all be deciding on a name for him tomorrow night. rock and i went to the buddhist temple the other day. it was incredible. there were monks walking everywhere, beautiful statues, trees and benches everywhere... it was sooo sick. i learned a bunch of thaui words, it's such an interesting language.
alright i gotta go fishing.

Do you guys know if they pre-decide the country they plan to go to each cycle on ANTM? Like, do they pick the country before each season starts? Or after all the contestants are chosen?
The reason I'm asking is this: I remember that in cycle 7, Jaslene tried out and didn't make it. That's the season they went to Spain. If she HAD made it onto the show, would they still have gone to Spain? They had to do that commercial entirely in Spanish, and it would have been a little unfair since that's her first language.
