go 35 seconds in. that is the french first lady and the dude who won the french equivalent to American Idol. Why are they singing the most awkward song ever written so sexily?! This is a major blow to dorks everywhere. I don't regret the song being in Juno BUT I stand behind it as an anthem for the socially disadvantaged. Its current position as preblow job fluff for the hot and mighty makes me feel a little yucky. It's my Pearl to bear.

That is brilliant. The FRENCH FIRST LADY is singing a song you wrote.

Props to you!

Sorry if it makes you uncomfortable, but I would just take it as evidence of how crazy the world can be.

I think she means the first french lady to win the equivalent of American Idol.
not the wife of the French President.

Did the French dude sing that his "bird is swing from side to side?"

...Maybe their point was that the socially disadvantaged can be sexy? :-P

Did I fall through a wormhole in space and time and end up in a Zucker Brothers spoof? That's just downright odd.

Next: Marilyn Manson takes on Vampire, or Celine Dion works her magic with Jorge Regula.

Julien Doré can do no wrong! Don't make me choose between you and him, Kimya, I can't do it!

God love the French. Can you imagine the first lady of any other country serenading a Pop Idol to the point of orgasm like that?

How strange to hear it sung by someone whose first language isn't English. Sexy but strange. I like how awkward it was originally, not sure I like people making slick covers of it.

..know that in a small way I feel hurt, and possibly the same as you.

This was my wife and I's song when we got married. We had never heard such a wonderfully honest example of us put to music than that, and so awkward and odd as we are, as we danced a few of the older people in attendance were like, "What kind of song is this for a wedding song?" I guess they were hoping we'd be dancing to "Wind beneath my wings" or something.

And then, about a year later, Juno comes out and we get all kind of phone calls from these very same people questioning our tastes at first, now thinking that they're "hip" and "in the know" that they now have a tie and a minute understanding to this quirky melody to which my wife and I had taken so strongly to heart.

And I'll be honest, I didn't like Juno, I love you and your music, but the movie....eh, it just irked me like someone who just goes around trying to make other people recognize how "cool" they are because they're so hip to underground culture and the ilk, as they name drop and wear t-shirts with obscure bands or movies emblazoned across them. Bah, another discussion for another time.

Well, I'm sorry that the French mass media did that to your beautiful song.

XO,
Mannix

honestly, that just made me laugh. they look like they have no idea what they are singing and don't understand English... and they look ridiculous for that reason. It bothers me too, but mostly it just makes me want to point and laugh... is that mean?

wow, that was strange and awkward.

i had a question though -- did they have to get the rights to use the song like that? i've always wondered about stuff like that. i mean, it's sort of like if a band wanted to cover a song live, but in this case it's being broadcast on national television. i was just wondering.
