10:21a - patsy, grey, and julian
they are okay. i was sick with worry all night. but i just read that they made it safely to north carolina. i was in the city for 2 days and didn't realize things had gotten so bad in new orleans and mississippi. i have been to new orleans twice in the last 10 months and met so many beautiful people down there and explored some beautiful neighborhoods. last time me and grey and joey and matty sat by the bayou st. john with our feet in the water playing songs for each other on my little pink guitar. and me and julian tried to through his toy superman up in the trees while patsy planted flowers. when i think about all the people and the communities and the amazing old homes and everything...it just makes me so sad. SO SO SO SAD. i hope the nice kids whose space we played at all got out of there too. so sad.

you know what makes me sick?! hearing people bitch about "looters". because most of the people taking stuff from stores are taking food and diapers. and a lot food goes bad and diapers should be free anyway. and these businesses are almost completely ruined anyway. and the ENTIRE CITY of new orleans is being evacuated. people have lost everything. if the business owners insurance doesn't cover their ass then a big screen teevee, a pair of sneakers, and a can of beans sure isn't going to cover their ass. people are in shock down there. if some poor dude feels comforted by some new fucking nikes leave him alone. lordy me.

to the folks who got on my ass about what i said about the looters...you are right i am not there. and i think it sucks to steal from local businesses and from peoples homes and cars. but i think that this is a really tough situation and the way it is being covered is really fucked up. i hate the way a bunch of people doing whatever they are doing for whatever ther personal reasons are being called "looters", and how on the news they are really pretty much only showing black people. and the comments on these pictures make me crazy.

the whole situation is sad and confusing and frustrating and i just think there needs to be a certain degree of understanding and compassion given to the people who are just totally out of their heads.
i don't condone violence. so no, i don't think it is okay for people to be violent, but i have seen police on t.v. slamming people against walls who are walking out of stores with food.
everything i write in this journal is my opinion based on the information i have. i am not all knowing. i will never claim to be. and i almost always am writing from an emotional place.
i wish none of this was happening.
i just can't believe that everyone who is taking stuff is evil.
