11:04a - sunny perchass
so i drove to suny purchase in the rain to play last night and it's weird because that school is where toby goodshank, jack dishel, steven mertens, jeffrey lewis, and anders griffen went. those are just my bandmates who went there i know countless others who went there too. including dufus. but the population of a school changes fast and there was really just one dan that i used to know from there who was still there. and some folks i remembered from playing there in september. but the last band that played, suplex, reminded me of dufus. and the kids reminded me of kids at dufus shows five years ago. and i am just getting older. so i called jack and said "i feel different being here, even though things seem really the same". and then we went through this round of saying dufus-suplex-suflex-duflex-duplex-bowflex-souffle-douffle....etc. and the sound was great and everyone was so so nice. i just felt a little old and all. i think though because when tina was going out with ted and he went to purchase it was...oh...15 years ago. i like being old and not being old at the same time. i wanted to see if anyone would play pool with me but i was too shy to ask. if any purchase kids ever want to invite me over for free pool and video games in the student center let me know. you can bring a friend and i will bring my brother and we'll play doubles. it'll be good. and then when i was walking far in the pouring rain to my car, alone in the dark, trying to carry my box of shirts and my guitar i was about to drop everything and fall to my knees in a puddle and scream "this fucking box is heavy and slippery and i am not gonna make it!" and then i thought, "wait a sec. this is my fucking job. this is the first time in years my "job" has had a hard part". and the hardness was just cold rain and a heavy box. and all i had to do was get across a parking lot. and there wasn't even anyone telling me how long it had to take me or how to do it. and i just started laughing. and then the rain felt good. and the cold felt good. and the heaviness of the box felt good. and i finally got to the car and cranked the heat and put that ghost mice song on on repeat and drove home.
