under an incandescent sky,
daubed with the sweet ache
of a winter sun,
crisp and golden on my stone dry lips.
Catching ribbons of cloud
in a glory of polished brass,
it fills my mouth with the taste
of marmalade wine.
Crisp beneath my feet
the sugar coated earth
is hushed,
holding its breath to hear
my muttered song,
a lament to the dying of the day.
