I don't know why I haven't posted about this yet, but Homesick was accepted to another film festival, this time Indie Fest USA 2009. It's held in downtown Disney in CA. I am way, way excited.

We got a random call over the weekend on our business line from this guy Michael. He sounded sketchy, but I called him back against my better judgment. Apparently he's been searching the internet for "fresh" and "interesting" ideas and short films that his employer can stream on their new episodic-content based website. He told me that based on the trailer, they were interested in "Homesick". I told him that I wasn't too hot on the idea of streaming "Homesick", but that I might be willing to produce some original content for them, and they seem very interested. I spoke to the "big boss" today, and he's calling me back any minute so that I can pitch him a few ideas. Fingers crossed.

11:54 pm - More whoring...
|
We posted to donate button to our company website, so if you're looking for an easy way of passing the idea of getting someone's name in the credits along, just directing them to this site will do it.
In other news, we're 1 1/2 weeks away from filming, and have about 1/10 of our equipment, and 1-4 of our props. This should be fun...
*EDIT* This time I actually added the link...

I'm not a huge Green Lantern fan, but this is probably the best "fan made" trailer I've seen in a long time. I would TOTALLY see this movie.

10:33 am - Want to be in our credits???
|
Have you always wanted to be thanked in the credits of a film? Is your dream to one day see your name up on the big screen? Do you want to have your own page on IMDB? Then we have good news! You are officially one step closer to that dream. Now, for a minimum donation of $5, you will be thanked in the credits of "The Neighbors." It's our little way of saying "thanks!" for helping us produce our film.
Thanks to anyone who donates, we really appreciate it! I'm just so damn excited to make this movie. If the taped rehearsal footage is any indication, I have a great feeling about it.

5:10 pm - Help With The Neighbors
|
As stated in an earlier post, we are now one person short on our movie, and because of it Tara and I are doing extra work so that we can hopefully finish this damn movie on time. There are a few behind-the-scenes roles we're looking to fill at the moment, and I'm turning to you guys for help. I'd rather work with someone either a) I know or b) someone I know recommends. If you know anyone who could help in any of the departments, please let me know (e-mail edpcasting@gmail.com, comment, or call 908-578-6135)
Artist - We are looking for an artist to the the storyboards. We were supposed to have someone already but, well, the person who left the project was in charge of that. Since he's gone, so is the artist we had. We are offering food, most/all transportation costs, and a film credit. We need this job filled asap, as we are 2 weeks behind in the department.
Costume/Wardrobe - I know very little about clothes, even less about what looks good, and even less about what certain people would/should wear. This is also a very critical job that need to be filled. Same offering of food, most/all transportation costs, and a film credit.
Audio - While Tara and I are doing a lot of homework on audio, anyone with experience in recording audio would be a HUGE help. Less critical is someone to help with post sound (mixing, etc.). Same offering of food, most/all transportation costs, and a film credit.
Script Supervisor - If you are always noticing when a glass is half full in one shot and then in the very next shot it's only 1/4 full, this is the job for you! You'd pretty much be in charge of making sure the continuity stays throughout every shot, so when it comes to editing we're not missing anything. It's fun, I swear! Same offering of food, most/all transportation costs, and a film credit.
P.A.'s, grips etc. - Anyone who doesn't feel like they meet any of these exact descriptions but would still like to help out around set, let us know! We ALWAYS need an extra pair of hands on set. Same offering of food, transportation costs, and a film credit.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. If you could either pass this on to anyone you know who could help, or repost this for me that would be WONDERFUL.

11:08 am - Input Wanted!!!!!!
|
In an effort to raise some extra money for The Neighbors, we were thinking of setting up a paypal account, and if you gave us something like... $5, it would go directly into the funding of the film, and you would get a credit on the movie. We're thinking a $5 minimum for now, but there's still time. What are your thoughts? Is a $5 minimum fair for your name at the end of our credits? Homesick has already gone to a couple festivals, and if The Neighbors is as good as I think it will be it'll go to even more, so TONS of strangers will see your name.
Input is appreciated, because we're gonna start this within the next week or so.

Oh man, less than 24 hours before our first read-through and an actor e-mails us with a scheduling problem. Why did I think we'd avoid that, at least for one meeting? Thankfully one of their main request was us paying for a cab ride from NYC to Ringwood NJ, so it was a pretty easy no there. I'm quite curious to see how she's going to get there...
On the plus side, I am currently looking at the final version of our script. Small dialogue changes that'll be made during read-throughs aside, we have a final shooting script. Homesick's script was changing weekly, so this is a pretty big step up for us.
Here's hoping things keep going this... slightly bumpy.

Anybody have a laptop they're looking to get rid of for not-so-much money (or possibly as a donation)? We're gonna use a laptop during the sound recording of The Neighbors, and can't really spend too much. My laptop doesn't hold a charge for more than a few minutes, so now we're looking for something and thought we'd turn to friends before ebay.
It doesn't have to be anything great, we're just using it for audio purposes. We're gonna kinda custom make it to work as flawlessly as it can, which'll mean deleting most everything on it, so borrowing is pretty much outta the question too. So, yeah, just leave a comment or e-mail me (cwerner88@gmail.com) if you have a laptop you're looking to get rid of/sell.

Well, "heavy" pre-production on The Neighbors starts today. We're going to finalize the casting later tonight, and alert the actors. Now we have to work on hiring the crew, doing storyboards, renting equipment, rehearsing, hopefully getting some financing and so on and so forth. We're also looking for a winery to hopefully donate some wine bottles, as well as let us use their wine in the film. If you know anyone who works at a winery, please let us know. They're pretty tough to get an answer from.
2 of the MANY things I'm glad we're doing differently this time is having a finished script before rehearsals start, and storyboarding. Also making a shot list wil help. These will make things much smoother. What isn't helping is the fact that the house we're shooting at is going on the market later this month, so working around her "showing" schedule is proving to be a bitch.
Oh well. We're still lightyears ahead of where we were with Homesick.

Our trip to Oklahoma ended up being a great experience. We were scheduled to play Thursday night at 9 PM but didn't end up showing until 10:45. Needless to say, not too many people in Muskogee, Oklahoma were up at 10:45 on a Thursday night. But after a fairly inspirational speech made by the festival director on Friday, we spoke to her and convinced her to give us a second showing. After hours and hours of printing out promo material and littering Muskogee with ads for Homesick, we played in front of a huge audience on Saturday. The reaction from the audience was... silence. They were not expecting what happened to happen and it took them quite a long time to react, which is great. I love the idea that our movie can get to people, even if they hate it (and many of them did, I'm sure). We did receive some incredible compliments from various filmmakers which was a nice little ego boost. Overall, awesome trip and well worth the time and money.
Best movie of the festival (besides ours, of course) had to be The Stevie Wondershow. It was funny and sweet, if a little uneven. If they sell it to a distributor (which I'm sure they will, it was that good), I hope they have a chance to make some edits because it was far too long. Still, it was an excellent movie that I'm sure you will all know of and love in about a year or 2. The guys who made it are gonna be huge one day, and I'm just glad I was able to meet them before they realize how talented they are.
Calbacks for "The Neighbors" are tonight, and I'm pretty excited. We also rewrote the entire ending over the weekend, and I'm glad we did because it's much better now. If the 4 actors we like agree to do the movie, I think the flick's gonna be fantastic. Especially with the new ending.

We're leaving tonight for the Bare Bones Film Festival. I'm both excited and nervous. I've never shown the movie to a crowd of people who are complete strangers. There were quite a few strangers at the Wicked Faire screening, but I knew at least 1/3 of the people. Plus I'm pretty sure I have to stay in the theater wile Homesick plays, which is just horrible. I can't stand watching while other people are watching it. Ugh.
We're gonna try to post some videos of our shenanigans on LJ and facebook. This should be a fun trip.
I purchased my first $1.29 song from iTunes (We Made You). I also purchased a few of the cheaper ones, so it balances out.

First auditions were yesterday, and they were ok. We have over 100 resumes that have been sent in to us, so I think Wednesday is gonna be a much bigger turnout. Tara and I absolutely loved one guy, at least. He was pretty much perfect, and if I had to cast today he'd win out the lead role of Patrick in an instant. We'll see how tomorrow goes, though.
Some of these actors are really annoying though. We make mention that we're filming and auditioning IN New jersey, yet they aren't willing to travel outside of NY for auditions. Well, then... why send in your resume? This other guy acted like a TOTAL d-bag about everything because he thought we were student filmmakers since we were auditioning at SHU. Then when I told him we weren't he wanted to interview and do all this shit. It's like, dude, you treat me like an asshole when you think I'm a student and now you think I'm gonna give you the part? Yeah right.

If you love me/Tara/Mike or all 3 of us, any sort of reposting or spreading the word would be REALLY appreciated. We're hoping for a good sized turnout because we're gonna be pretty picky and want a good amount of folks to choose from. We already have quite a few applicants through Mandy, and the listings only been up a few hours.

12:46 pm - Movies N' Stuff
|
I just watched JCVD last week, and it was awesome. It's a movie where Jean-Claude Van Damme plays himself in a post office/bank hostage situation. And it was really, really good. Not like shitty action movie good, but well written, shot, and plotted good. And it would not have worked if he didn't play himself. My Name Is Bruce sucked (how the hell does it have a 6.8 on IMDb? It was awful) because they put Bruce Campbell in a shitty Bruce Campbell movie situation, which then churned out a shitty movie. JCVD put Jean-Claude Van Damme in a realistic and sad situation, which made him reexamine his life and act accordingly, which was really interesting. I mean, I never knew the dude can act, but there's this one very "film school" moment where he raises above the movie set and talks about his life, and it worked surprisingly well because of his performance. This whole time he's been making shitty action movies, and he can act? Who knew? I can't say enough good things about it.
I'm also really excited about The Expendables. Stallone, Rourke, (hopefully) Schwarzenegger, and Dolph Lundgren. You get Chuck Norris, Van Damme and Bruce Willis and you have the "Rat Pack" of action stars. It'll probably suck, but I don't care. 11 year old me is creaming his pants at the thought of all these folks in a movie together.
It got me thinking about how much I loved Hot Fuzz, because it totally nailed action movies. Most of my friends prefer Shaun of the Dead (some flat out hate Hot Fuzz), but I'm the opposite. Shaun of the Dead was awesome of course, and got zombie movies perfectly, but I think Hot Fuzz got action movies (especially the late 80's, early-mid 90's ones) just as well, if not better. I've watched just as many action movies as horror movies, and theyr eally did nail them both. Hot Fuzz wasn't as funny as Shaun of the Dead, per se, but I think it was just a better movie. I'm in the minority on this one, I know that.
And I stand corrected: Dream Cruise is the worst Masters of Horror I've seen. Oof.

So, I'm conducting my first ever interview for Homesick, or anything for that matter. Internet Celebrity magazine is doing an issue for the Bare Bones Film Fest, and I'm one of the people they're interviewing. What's weird to me is that it's a magazine "for the aspiring Christian Entertainer & Performer". Uh... what? Now, I'm still excited to give my first interview, but... really? Have they seen my movie? Is what I do to that family wholesome Christian entertainment? If it is, my religious upbringing was much too sheltered because I missed out on all of the home invasion get-togethers.
