I was looking at some Death Note cosplay and came across this: www.flickr.com/photos/chrome34/2737850097/in/pool-perfect_cosplay

The person playing Light looks intriguing and I want to see other shots or cosplays, but I can't find out who it is. I was just wondering whether any of you might know who they are?

Thaaanks ^_^

Yay for weekends off!

  • Sep. 6th, 2008 at 9:58 AM
I'm enjoying my weekend off. I wish I could have every weekend off, it's so nice to be able to just stay in bed with Ryan and not have to worry about getting up for work. I have next weekend off too! Woo!

Yesterday was Ryan's birthday. He came and picked me up and I gave him his gifts. I got him a PSP and some games as well as Rise Against/Alkaline Trio/Thrice tickets. Those fuckers were expensive. We went out to eat at Red Robin with Matt, Ryan had some coupon for a free burger for his birthday. We decided to go to Pepper Bottom's which was pretty lame and our waitress was totally manly. So we all (Ryan, Matt, Steve, Cory and I) decided to go back to the house and play beer pong/hang out. Cory's girlfriend, Andrea, came over and they all played beer pong while Ryan played his PSP and I watched How It's Made and Dirty Jobs on Discovery lol. I ended up passing out and went to bed shortly after.

I just cleaned Ryan's room cause I was bored. He's still playing his PSP. I'm really glad he likes it =D

I have to make a trip to the post office today and get my key for our mailbox. We will be needing that pretty soon when all the bills start to come in...
I think the rest of the day is going to be pretty laid back. I don't really feel like doing much. Ryan's going to do his laundry at my place cause his washer is broken. I want to mess around on my laptop a little today cause Jimmy put Photoshop on it for me yesterday. I'm pretty excited about that.

Well, that's about all. I'm kind of getting hungry.........

Sisters (circa 1925)

  • Sep. 6th, 2008 at 7:20 PM

My paternal grandmother (in the middle) and her two sisters. They were known, in English, as Mildred (Milly, on the left), Julia (Julie), and Pearl (on the right), but it's my understanding that those are Anglicised versions of their Hungarian names. I don't know what Milly's name was in Hungarian, and I'm pretty sure Julia was still Julia, but Pearl's name was the actual Hungarian word for pearl, which is Gyöngy. When they came through Ellis Island, they all changed their names to be suitable "American", or such is my understanding (my grandmother was never very forthcoming about their immigration; I think she either thought it wasn't very interesting or she figured it was all in the past, so why talk about it).

They also left Europe in a rather big hurry, and had few or no papers or documentation as to their birth places, ages, etc. For some reason I've never undestood, the three sisters always argued over who was the youngest, each insisting she was the youngest sister. It's entirely obvious by this photograph, however, who was the eldest and who was the youngest, and another photo of them similarly posed (when they were a bit older) shows the same sort of "stair step" age grouping. I've always found it quite strange and funny that they all wanted to be the youngest, like it was some sort of prize. :)

This photo was taken in the middle 1920s if the ages I've been given for the sisters was correct, and it was probably taken at a photography studio in Prague. Technically, their citizenship was Czechoslovakian, but the family was Hungarian.

How to Use

A recent post about Misa and her extended lifespan has me confused.   I had an understanding of how it all worked but am not sure anymore.  I would love to hear everybody's thoughts, opinions, clarifications.

Kaloma

Photobucket

Kaloma = Mrs. Wyatt Earp?
She may be Josie Earp; she may not be. Nobody seems to have undeniable proof in either case. For now, she's a lovely mystery.

This photo was taken in 1914; Josie Earp would have been in her 50s. An argument made by those who believe the scantily-clad woman is Josephine is that the 1914 image is a reprint of an earlier photograph from the 1880s. Others say that the image is clearly that of a young woman of the 1910s, judging by the style and technique of the photograph.

Kaloma was a popular pinup during World War I; and was again a popular image in the 1960s.

As far as I'm concerned, I think she's not Josie Earp, but striking young woman from 1914.

Whomever she is, the photo is certainly memorable.
