| | crickets -well, it is summer, after all | ] | Tom, who has frequently graced us with his presence for beer and video games, and who always appreciates my cooking, came over and helped us move the bulk of our stuff to the basement of the new place today. The behemoth desk is gone, alas and also hooray. Furthermore, he's going to lend us the truck tomorrow evening so we can do even more pre-emptive moving. It's very odd to move stuff into a basement, for me, but I guess that's not too unusual around here. Sept 1 is a common move-in date for all the college kids and everyone's in the same boat. It was very, very nice not to have to hire a UHAUL. Those things come with a lot of horror stories about the difficulty of booking one and having it actually exist when you go to pick it up. |

If Sig gets the job he wants, I have a feeling our next move is going to be about 50 minutes or so south of here. We're going to have to get a U-Haul. I'm hoping our paring down (decluttering) mission we're undertaking right now will let us get the next-to-largest one and move it all in one quick trip (if the military doesn't move us, which I doubt seriously that they will).
I hate packing and unpacking, but the less stuff we have, the easier it will be.
Good luck with the big move! :D
Oh, and I use "U-Haul" like everyone uses "Kleenex". We usually go with Budget or Ryder, because they're cheapest, and pretty dependable. I think we've only had one little snafu with a deposit refund, but that was quickly cleared up.
Yeah, I have heard good things about Ryder. Decluttering in advance is good though :) Get you set up to be able to load a truck and go. The best thing we have had so far this move was a box that was basically a bubble-wrap dispenser with a roll of bubble-wrap in it. So much tidier than old newspapers. | |
