Possibly Friends

This journal is pretty much all "friends only", due to my extreme paranoia. I enjoy making new LJ friends, so feel free to ask to be added. Take a gander at my userinfo to see if we have something in common; if we don't it will probably be a boring LJ friendship. I like to ~*get to know*~ people on my f-list and try to be pretty active in reading and commenting. Pretty please leave me a comment before adding me. :)

P.S. I have a tendency to think I've added people when I really haven't. So don't hesitate to remind me to actually add you after I respond.

Robert Gari dies at 87

RIP Guy Blank. I think viewings of The Goodbye Guy are in order :'(

Actor and Artist Roberto Gari Dies at 87

By Robert Simonson
04 Feb 2008

Roberto Gari, an actor with several Broadway credits who also had a career as an artist, died Jan. 22 in Manhattan of a heart attack. He was 87.

Mr. Gari, born in Brooklyn, was on the stage by the age of four, appearing in vaudeville under the name of Jackie Hayes. He danced with Vera-Ellen in the 1944 Broadway production of A Connecticut Yankee and later landed the lead role in the same production. His other Broadway credits included Sadie Thompson and Nellie Bly. The latter was produced by Eddie Cantor, his father-in-law.

In between his stage debut and Broadway debut, Mr. Gari attended the Art Students League, studying under Will Barnett and Ethel Schwabacher. His work was vaguely impressionistic and often took popular figures and subjects as its subject. His most famous work was the well-known painting of Judy Garland that was on display in the lobby of New York's Palace Theatre for decades. It now rests in the permanent collection of the Museum of the City of New York.

In recent years, Mr. Gari, possessed of a long, angular face, prominent nose and droopy white moustache, received much work in prominent print ads, and played Amy Sedaris' dead, rigor mortis-stricken father Guy Blank on Comedy Central's "Strangers With Candy." Mr. Gari's marriage to Janet Cantor ended in divorce. In addition to his son Brian, of Manhattan, Mr. Gari is survived by his daughter Amanda Abel of Sherman Oaks, CA, and granddaughter Allison Abel of Sherman Oaks. link

These are a few of my favorite things

I find it immensely satisfying and entertaining to look at this. It's kind of like lining up all my favorite stuff on a shelf and staring at it (which I enjoy doing). It's always funny to see what comes up for things and trying to figure out some of my weirder interests are represented as, some of them I have no clue and was just amused by the random series of pictures I had to choose from. I think my favorite side-by-side interests are Geoffrey Jellineck, Gloria Steinam :D

Geoffrey Jellineck lives

Everyone, I'd like you to meet my future husband, Amel (given name, naturally). We shall live together in our art-directed shabby tenement building and make trite artwork together with busty aliens and butterflies that any 14 year old girl would be proud to turn into her 4th period art class.

Read his tale of vicious censoring here.

Thanks to the lovely [info]forgottenbutton for sharing this treasure with me.

Amy: Cupcake Pokes

Amy at the Quill Awards

Check out Amy's completely ridonk get-up from the Quill Awards. I think she wins top prize for more literal translation of the evening. :D Also, I totally didn't realize it at first, but that's Stephen with her in the 3rd pic, I'm so disappointed he got cut off :( I tried to look up when the show was supposedly repeating but haven't had any luck so far. I'm sure Stephen and Amy were great fun to see together.

Some of my DVD collection

I always enjoy looking through people's DVD collections to see the sorts of things they enjoy watching and how they store them, so I am totally turning this into a meme and think everyone should post pictures of their collection (pictures are so much more interesting than just looking through a list). I'm too lazy to go downstairs and photograph my whole collections (which isn't really stored in an easy-to-photograph sort of way) so here is my pile of my most recent TV on DVD collection. As a bonus, you can see all the completely random crap on the book shelf behind them.

Edit: Here are some "directions" about the meme if you want to copy and paste so others will know what to do.
Take photo(s) of your DVD collection and discuss your favorites, explain why you bought certain DVDs, what you watched most recently, etc. so your friends can learn more about you and your tastes.

Recent DVD aquisitions
Recent DVD aquisitions

These are the DVD sets that I've accumulated over the past severals months. Starting with my super sweet Kids In The Hall DVDS that I found for cheap (second season is turned backwards as that's the one I'm currently on) on the bottom.

The 3rd season of The Office in the "paper box" special edition from Best Buy which came with a Dundie and a mini Dwight bobblehead.

Ugly Betty, which I had a mega marathon over the past couple days and I finished it up.

The 2nd season of Upright Citizens Brigade which I completed (but not the bonuses or commentary)

The 1st season of 30 Rock (which I completed)

The complete Mr. Show series which I got for $20 off ebay (I love hunting stuff down for cheap). I'm on the third season now.

And a 2 DVD set of Ernie Kovacs' show. I've been so curious to see this and finally saw that it was on reduced price on deepdiscount for $11 when it had been going for $40 on amazon. I figured it was about time to buy it. I haven't watched this yet.
