Tonight we watched:
Conspiracy. An average movie with Val Kilmer. Maybe that's why it was direct to video. Some decent close combat.
Then, No country for old men. This is one f-up story, a novel put into picture by the Coen brothers.

Went to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, the latest Tim Burton movie. It is a crazy musical with graphic violence. Very good.

On the 25, watched The Bourne Ultimatum cut in half in the width (ya know, full-screen b.s. - I was just a guest) I have to get all 3 straight, but this will require to juggle with videostores in my area as they don't seem to be consistent: no way I'll rent the full-screen. In the top 250.
Yesterday, we watched 3 movies:
Laberinto del fauno, El (Pan's Labyrinth). A nice fairy tale in Franco's Spain. In both the top 250 and my Oscars 2007 list.
Superbad. Hilarious movie, if you don't fear the high-school jokes, R-rated. I think it goes toward a new generation of teen comedy, more crude than the "brat-packers" comedies from John Hughes.
Balls of fury. Kung-fu with balls, aka Ping-Pong. I'd classify this film into the spoof category of espionnage - thriller - action - kung-fu. Christoper Walken raise the level of the movie a bit.

Just finished watching The Godfather Part II. Another "must see" movie off my list. I guess I'll have to watch the third one, known to not be as good. I'll see.

I finally went through and watched The Godfather. It is #1 on IMDB top 250.
I guess I'll have to watch the two others.

Saturday we went to watch Eastern Promises, the latest David Cronenberg movie, in theaters. It is apparently the first Cronenberg movie filmed out of Canada. A good movie about the Russian mob in London.
Saturday we watched three movies:
Apocalypto. A not common theme for a fiction movie: Mayan civilization on the 16th century (or end 15th). Well done and original. Interestingly the movie is in Mayan, not English, which is likely to be very "creative license", but add IMHO more credibiltiy. 8/10
Zodiac. A long investigation on a serial killer case from the end of the 60's, based on real facts from a book. Long and good. 9/10
Hannibal. The sequel of The Silence of the Lambs, 10 years after, with an almost different cast. I'm not sure it fits well, Jody Foster being replaced by Julianne Moore, etc. 6/10

Thursday we watched The Number 23. A good thriller where Jim Carey is unrecognizable. He is not typecast this time, and serve the movie well. 8/10
Friday we watched Running with scissors. People can be messed up, and apparently this is insipred by the life the of the main character. 6/10
Then we watched Ghost rider. An adaptation of the Marvel comic from the same name. Cool CGI, but I didn't find it awesome or thrilling. The plot is very flat IMHO. 5/10
Saturday was The silence of the lambs. Believe it or not I had never seen it, despite seeing parts here, parts there. I don't think one needs to be introduced to that movie. Good story, good suspense. 8/10

Hostel. Produced by Tarentino. It is like Luc Besson: they start to produce instead of directing and the movie quality goes down. On overall some scenes are really predictible, and there are some very gory scenes. Filmed in Czech Republic. 6/10
Forrest Gump. Believe it or not I had never seen that movie in the last 13 years. Now I did. It is a good movie IMHO even if it is not rely classifiable in any specific genre, or maybe epic story. 8/10

Friday night we watched Hot Fuzz, a british police comedy by the makers of Shaun of the dead. Exquisitingly funny and entertaining. 9/10
Then Elizabethtown, romantic comedy and drama by Cameron Crowe, with Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst. There is more than just the usual chick-flick plot. It is also filmed on location in Kentucky. 8/10
Saturday we watched Thank you for smoking, a satirical comedy about lobbies in the US, in that case the tobacco lobby. I had already watched this movie coming from Dublin last year (in the plane). 8/10

Saturday, we watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, another Tim Burton movie. Actually a kid movie, but intelligent. I think the fact that it was made by Tim Burton made me choose to watch it.
Sunday, we watched Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It is part of the top 250 and the prequel of a movie I have on my Oscar 2007 list. A good pirate movie.

Saturday we watched Signs followed by Unbreakable. Both are interesting way to deal with alien invasion and comics super hero (respectively). I hadn't seen them.
Casino Royale, not the spoof but the 2006 James Bond. Way overrated, even if they really blow up 3 300,000$ cars in a stunt. Sill a decent action movie.

I forgot, but last week-end we watched Crash, not the David Cronenberg movie, but the american one. It is a good movie.
Then, on Sunday, watched The Green Mile based on a book by Stephen King.
Both are on IMDB top 250.

Today, I watched:
- Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan: sometime this movie has TMI. No kidding that Sacha Baron Cohen has so many pending lawsuits. I'm not a big fan of this kind of movies, but I had a good laugh.
- Little Miss Sunshine: part of the top-250 and Oscars 2007 list. Funny portrait of a very strange family: A son that made a vow of silence, a grand pa that inhale white powder, an uncle that attempted suicide, etc. They all go for a road trip from Albuquerque, NY to Los Angeles, CA, in the family rusty VW van.
Saturday evening, watched Stranger than fiction A story inside a story were Will Ferrel is not the usual clown as he usually is. Interesting.
Sunday was Sixth Sense. Believe it or not, I had never seen that movie. Now I have. My feeling is that it has its length, but the end really conclude the story and I didn't have guessed previously.

The Prestige could have been on my Oscars 2007 watching list, but it wasn't, despite being on the Top-250 from IMDB. Nonetheless we watched it and there was no disappointement. I enjoyed it.
Friday, watched Original Sin. A thriller taking place in Cuba. Nothing special about it beside the FFN of Angelina Jolie (for you pervs).
Then Pitch Black. Good quality Sci-Fi flick. I has a sequel: Chronicles of Riddick (that I had already seen).
Saturday, Marie-Antoinette. Historic drama by Sofia Coppola in Versailles, with Kirsten Dunst playing Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France. I just wish it was filmed in French with French actors...
And the Departed. According IMDB, this movie is a remake of a Hong Kong movie also in top #250 of IMDB. All I can say is that Martin Scorcese did a very good job and that Jack Nicholson is even more evil.
