Hayseed Dixie = AWESOME!!! *bouncebouncebounce*

Really fun. Banter was mostly excellent apart from the odd throwaway comment which I had a knee jerk reaction to* . Lots of bouncing around to country/bluegrass style rock covers, my favourite of which was probably Ace of Spades. I would have done more dancing if I wasn't trying to wear in my new boots (new boots!) whilst wearing "religious" socks. That is, socks worn to nothing in exactly the places where boots cause large blisters. I am limping slightly today.

Today I went to Barry's leaving party which was also Tom & Callum's house warming (all graduate engineers at work). It was pretty fun, although I did suffer a bit from my usual talent at being a misfit in almost every social situation. Unfortunately when I got home to get changed into none work clothes, I discovered my key was already in the house ahead of me and that no-ne else was home. So that wasn't so good. I left the party early and just got back in time to catch my house mates as they were going to bed. And now I should be really, damn this sleep cycle thingy.

Update at the Nerd Ranch [Jul. 24th, 2008|08:10 pm]

I stripped the dining room and one wall of the livingroom free of wallpaper only to find MORE WALLPAPER! I stripped all evening yesterday and have been stripping all day and I don't have a pole ;D THEN I had to get the GLUE off of the wall because in the 60's if you remember they used flour and water - no kidding. Or something. It stunk to high heaven and just to get the glue off I had to wet the walls, scrape with the scraper then wash with TSP - WALLPAPER IS EV0L!!

THEN I patched all the nail holes in the walls and the big hole the electrician left because when he came to wire my outlet in the master bath he had to do it from the outlet on the other side of the wall because THIS HOUSE IS CRAZY!

OH YEAH! Then there's the oven. There's no temperature knob on it. What you have to do is press the temperature button, twist the little knobby thing to the temperature you want and then remember to actually turn it ON by selecting whether you want upper or lower element but don't make a mistake and hit the CLEAN button or it'll go nuts and start beeping at you frantically. I JUST WANT TO TURN ON THE DAMN OVEN AND COOK SOME CAKE AND SAUCE STUFF! GIMMEE SOME COFFEE FLAVOURED COFFEE, PULL UP YOUR PANTS. Sorry, I think I channeled Dennis Leary there for a sec.

The microwave is the same way - this lady loved turning knobs. You select time then turn the knob to how long you want then press start. Where is my number pad like God intended?

The washer and dryer - push buttons! *eyeroll*

One day my hardwood maple will arrive and they can finish my floor. For now I remain IN THE BASEMENT.

I'm struggling with who to send after a very upset Xander and still working on reading "The Plum, Plum Pickers." It's a good book with difficult dialect and enough depression to drive the Prozac market. So, what do I do? Make icons. Actually, I made a color bar and icons, so feel free to take, customize, do whatever. Just please give credit.

Oh, and obviously the theme is READING

[mood | annoyed]

I just put on the TV to watch the news - only to realize that Oh God, it's Obama day.
Let's see how long I'll manage to watch - so far I've had to put the TV on mute three times already because they were interviewing waiting "fans" and it was just too embarrassing to listen to. As fannish as I can be in every aspect of my life (and if there is something I'm interested in, no matter which area of life, I tend to get obsessive), but in politics it's something I just cannot bear, it completely creeps me out.

Sad orchid news: my beautiful Burr. Nelly Isler is infested by spider mites! :/ They can't stand high humidity, so I'm a bit baffled as I take care to spray my orchids with water every morning, but I've sprayed her several times now and put her into a plastic bag - 3-4 days in there and the mites should be gone, at least that's what the experts say. Of course the mites would go and settle on the one orchid that is currently in bloom. *sigh*

The event planning thing I got saddled with is still most annoying - never again am I going to do someone a favour like this. Unfortunately the chocolate is gone, but I think I'll reward myself with an evening of monster slaying. I installed Titan Quest two weeks ago and it's actually a lot of fun, more mindless than the RPGs I usually like, but great for relaxing. In any case, it's just one week left now until DSA: Drakensang will be out, a game I've waited for 15 years. I've preordered the collectors edition and cannot wait to make myself a Glorfindel and once more walk the world of Aventuria!

Fandom: LotRPS
Pairing: Viggo/Bean
Rating: G
Archive: Lothlorien, [info]sons_of_gondor, and Green Opals.
Feedback: Always appreciated.
Disclaimer: Absolutely did not happen. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Summary: May finds Sean satisfied with his solitary state.
Notes: This ficlet follows approximately a month after April: Personification (which in turn follows after January: Pathetic Fallacy, February: Meiosis and March: Dissonance), but can be read as a standalone if so desired. Much, much love to [info]savageseraph, who singlehandedly marched me through this part, ignoring the moans that it was too hard and too frustrating, doling out reward and punishment as needed to get me across the finish line. I honestly couldn't have done it without her. Additionally, this fic is for [info]shegollum and [info]brigantine1. Happy Belated Birthday, ladies!

I can't do that, I'm on a break [Jul. 23rd, 2008|11:40 am]

So, I got a call from Hydro saying "we are coming to turn off your power in 10 minutes so we can run the live cables to your power box AND ENSURE YOU ARE NOT A GROW-OP OMG YOU'D BETTER NOT BE A FUCKING GROW OP OR LIKE WE'LL GET THE RCMP ON YOU". Okay so the flooring people went and did some other stuff because they need power to install stuff. No problem. Then the electrician shows up and does stuff and we wait. And wait. And wait. And then we call Hydro and they say "WE MEANT TOMORROW, GOD ARE YOU STUPID!" and so now my floors are half a day behind and seriously - how do people renovate for like a YEAR? It's been 3 days and I'm going mental. My furniture is out on the deck, my bed is in my laundry room, I'm watching a 14" TV ion the basement and the cats keep barfing - CALGON TAKE ME AWAAAAYYY!

In other news, I had this big rant in my head about people using movies as their basis toward comics annoys me. Especially people who think Smallville really reflects Superman and how Clark acts or they take what MCR says about Spider-Man and uses that as the basis for how they feel about it. Why don't you I don't know, read a comic? Go buy some and make your own mind up. Note that Spider-Man in the comics is not Tobey Maguire and never takes his mask off. Find out that X-Men III was based on of the Astonishing X-Men Universe and maybe discover that yes, Bruce is that fucked up but Clark is helping him, dammit!!! Ha, I guess I did rant about it.

OH, flooring people are back. I hope we can get this all done by the end of next week - then I can actually start to unpack - woo hoo!

It's been years since I had a cold sore outbreak, but half my lower lip is swollen and sore and gross-looking at the moment. Just the cap for my depressing week.

Anyway, a thought upon finishing season 1 last night:

Jack Carter is to Eureka as Sam Carter to the Asgard, y/n?

Easy listening [Jul. 22nd, 2008|11:19 pm]

Today I got into work, drank a cup of tea and put on "Peace Sells...". By the end of Wake Up Dead I realised my left leg was jiggling about uncontrollably in time and I was fighting the urge to sing out loud and run about the office. I don't think tea + thrash + trying to read government regulatory body reports really mix that well. Eluveitie was more of a success later on, although that could've been because the caffeine had worn off. I do find that listening to stuff with lyrics I can't understand is better if I'm reading. It's less distracting - like if you're writing notes whilst half listening to a conversation, then look down to find you've written a transcript of that instead of what you meant to write.

And yes, that is the most exciting thing that happened today apart from buying tickets to see Hayseed Dixie at the Assembly Rooms this Thursday. Good stuff.

Hello. Day 2 in The Basement Chronicles - when you're a teenager being shut away with all your stuff is cool - at this age, notsomuch. Today we have awesome!chick ripping out the hundreds of staples some moron used to hold down the underlay of the now previous carpet. You're not supposed to staple the underlay to the subfloor but the people that used to live here thought "hey, we won't have to remove this for 30 years!" Oy. Awesome!chick has got so many muscles I can't stop staring at her. So this is what happens when you get off your ass and "work" for a living. Go figure.

Today in the paper there was a notice that Eureka was shooting again in town and they invited everyone downtown tomorrow and Thursday to check them out )
That's it. Not much else going on except that today the recycle/garbage guys were not driving like maniacs and racing each other through the neighbourhood. This is my life - noticing trends in rubbish removal.

CARRY ON!

DONE! [Jul. 22nd, 2008|02:48 pm]

Whooo - it is DONE! 3 days before the deadline, and here I thought I would wind up finishing a minute before the deadline as usual. About 9500 word and all my recipient's requests met, I hope. It was a hellish week - my father and E. went on a 2-week trip to a tiny internet-less village in Crete, only they are right now organizing a couple of rather big events, so they asked me whether I could just daily log into their email accounts and deal with any important stuff that comes up, as well as see to the printing/posting of flyers and some other stuff. *headdesks* Only half an hour of explaining things to me just isn't enough to enable me to answer urgent mails, and the printer suddenly decided that they'll ship to the whole EU but not to Austria, so they'll have to send 25000 flyers to me and I will have to send them to Austria myself, which is going to take an additional 4 days, and then the printer pretends he didn't get the data from the designer even though he got a confirmation mail from the printer, and as the designer went on a 4-day holiday it's taken another additional 4 days now...

Yep, yesterday I gave in and bought myself chocolate, which I haven't done in months, but I really deserved it. Right now I am just so relieved that I finished the AinA challenge story in time! And not only that, but I'm really happy with it as well - when I first got the request I didn't know what to write at all, but the story I have come up with hopefully makes sense. It does to me, at least. :)

I'm also really looking forward to the story I'll get, after this really hectic week I deserve some nice slash. And now I have a couple of other things to get back to, like the [info]livelongnmarry fundraiser ($43 617.43, isn't it just awesome?), which means writing another story (though I have two months for that, phew, and already a few good ideas) as well as finally getting to make some soap again.

And yes, I know, there is Cuil Eden... I haven't forgotten that. Due to AinA I haven't even started on chapter 62 yet, but maybe I'll do so later today - first I need a nice cup of relaxing herbal tea.
