I feel : mellow

Gossip Girl )

HIMYM )

In random news, necessary crossover, Gossip Girl/HIMYM, Barney and Chuck battle over who can pick up more chicks in a night and both end the night sipping their scotches with melancholy airs, and talking about the strong, brunette women they can't admit they love.

HSM )

So, I watched all that, and Jon and Kate Plus 8 (OMFG THE 6 ARE IN PRE-SCHOOL, I FEEL SO OLD!!) and The Duggars because I heard that in last week's episode the oldest son got engaged to a girl, and that after she accepted, they hugged, because you shouldn't kiss someone before you're married. Which, wow. I seriously can't believe I missed it. Also, they have a secular cousin who appeared on tonight's episode, and I just did not get how she doesn't want to grab her relatives and try to destroy everything their parents are teaching them. I guess maybe she's a good person?

I never know what to write in the subject box, much like I never know what to title stories. I wish I still had my America: The Calendar. It had entry titles built right in!

Anyway.

HI INTERNET. Sorry I've been gone so long. You know how it is.

***

Friday night I went with my parents to see a "distinguished lecture" at William Paterson University. It was about humor and the election and the panelists were Christopher Buckley, Peter Sagal, and Carol Leifer. It was hilARious. Oh my god. Peter Sagal is as funny in real life as he is on Wait, Wait and Christopher Buckley is hella smart. The others were too, of course, but... man, just hella smart. Carol Leifer didn't talk much and didn't leave much of an impression, other than that she REALLY hates Sarah Palin. It was, like I said, Friday night, so it was just hours after Buckley posted his support of Obama, so they talked about that for awhile and it was great. The whole thing was, really. I wish I had recorded it or written down my favorite bits because... oh god, guys, I laughed so hard at some of it. Sagal did this thing where he talked about how we have a "Tinkerbell Economy" and if we just clap our hands and chant really hard that we believe in it, it will stabilize. It was a fun evening, though, even though we got ridiculously lost on the way there.

Saturday I went to work and then came home. Boring.

***

SUNDAY. I don't know why I seperated this with a little asterisk thing. Anyway, SUNDAY I got up early for breakfast with [info]quatredeathlady and our moms. We had a ridiculously long wait for breakfast (not really, it was like thirty minutes, but we were tired and hungry) but eventually got a table and ate food. Then our moms went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond and we went home to get ready to go pumpkin picking.

We had a sort of ridiculously long and convoluted experience getting there and the place was INSANE, but it's going to get its own post because I took a lot of dumb pictures to illustrate it and I don't have time to upload them now.

When we got back, we took a nap and then had dinner before heading out to briefly visit Nicole's mom and sister before seeing Quarantine. Let me tell you, we were both pleasantly surprised with how much we enjoyed ourselves. I mean, it's a zombie movie, so it's not like its forging new territory, but it was very creepy. We even screamed out loud in the theatre at one (or two...) point(s). I really liked it, although I'm sure it will have its detractors, as most horror movies do.

At home there was no internet and we decided we were never sleeping ever, so we watched teevee and I half-heartedly worked on the story we're writing together until we were too tired to stay up any longer. We passed out and slept until noon, at which point we still had no internet. After watching two hours of What Not to Wear we went to The Bookstore and Panera to buy books, eat food, and use teh internets. Afterwards, it was time for Nicole to go, which was TRAGIC, but I saw her off on the bus.

Hopefully she will be back next weekend to see Richard Schiff in Talley's Folly. Hopefully we will get to carve our pumpkins!

***

This evening I went out to dinner with my parents and an aunt and uncle from out of town. It was very entertaining, but I'm exhausted and have to go to The Bookstore in the morning, so I will end this severely boring LJ entry now.

Hey, internet. What's up? The Bookstore wasn't that bad tonight, especially since [info]quatredeathlady and her mom came to visit. Woo hoo! The rest of the people working at The Bookstore went out for drinks to say goodbye to the café manager. I opted out because I was tired and had Things To Do.

Anyway, those things are done now, so here are some songs.

Alison Brown and the Indigo Girls - Homeward Bound
This randomly came up on Milo on the way home. I didn't even know that I had it! But it's pretty awesome. I love this song, and also the Indigo Girls.

And three off of Dar's new album:
It's Alright
The first track, which I think is pretty kick ass. It's all about being resistant to change and then realizing that it's part of life and moving on is healthy. And the music is awesome.

Buzzer
This is a pop song about the Milgram experiments. I'm not even kidding. It's awesome. Dar does this thing where she writes really catchy songs with great music about things that make you feel guilty for enjoying singing along as much as you do. If that makes any sense. ANYWAY THIS IS ONE OF THEM.

Midnight Radio
Dar covering the song from Hedwig. Really, really beautiful.

Anyway, if you like this stuff, seriously consider buying the new album. It's really great and totally worth the price and you should really support awesome independent artists.

Other things:
I uploaded the TWW's cast appearance on Ellen from 2006 for [info]unspooling and figured I'd share it with you guys as well. It's in six parts:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6

It was a great appearance. The entire cast and it was tons of fun to watch. AW. MY SHOW. ♥

Okay. Now I am going to post a prompt to [info]itsproductivity and go to bed! Tomorrow I am going to breakfast with [info]quatredeathlady and our moms and then we are going pumpkin picking and either tomorrow or Monday we are going to the movies.

So I like horror movies. Here are some recs for anyone looking for horror movies to watch.

I had to really restrain myself on the number of flicks AND the number of categories. So honestly, if there's a type of horror flick you want to see, but need a rec, just ask! I hate rec'ing things normally, but this... eh. What can it hurt?

I feel : accomplished

I spent all of my day today working on my Multimedia assignment. For which I was supposed to start on my draft of a website that explains why I want to be a librarian. This was hard for two reasons. I don't really know if I want to be a librarian. Dreamweaver kind of hates me. But, with much muddling through, I was able to finish the project. The most awesome/sad part is that all of the photos on the site were discovered purely from memory. Like I knew off the top of my head what episode they were from without even thinking about it. However, finding the pictures of myself took forever.

Oh, and new Office promo:

Fall Out Boy have sent us an exclusive announcement that Elvis Costello will be making a special appearance on their upcoming album.

Message from the Band:

At some point everyone is gonna find out. So, I guess its time to let the cat is out of the bag. We didn't want to talk about this before we actually heard it because its a once in a lifetime experience. We've announced a couple of guests on the record but "I wish you luck with a capital F" is just one of the thousands of genius ideas thought up by Elvis Costello and he's gonna be singing on Folie a Deux. this isn't a typical appearance as he's alongside the guys in a couple of the decaydance bands on the song. Either way this has been an amazing experience for fall out boy as he is one of our heroes, especially so for patrick. We can't wait for you to have the chance to hear it.

- I am doing NOTHING but reading DC Comics slash. Seriously. I eat. I sleep. I read. And I am ludicrously happy about it, lol. The pairings I'll read (as I'm not into gen, yet, though I may get there) are becoming numerous. Though, they usually has to be a Bat Family or a Speedster somewhere around in it. But that's just because I'm not that familiar with the Arrow clan yet, except I'm becoming familiar with Roy (as he is paired with everyone ever) and really only Clark and Kon of the Supes. And Kon only through fic, as with Roy, and Bart (omg, I love Bart Allen So. Much.).

- I think THIS is an interesting and nice idea. You must comment on FIVE (5) fics that have less than five unique reader comments before you post your own fic list. So if you feel inclined to make it more multi-fandom, head on over there. Feedback is groovy.

- Life right now, besides the sleeping, eating, and comics related'ness, kind of... is eh. The car thing, the work situation (it's okay, but I really do need to seriously find another part time job, where I don't have to stand for 5 hours), and I think I'm fighting off depression again (going to talk to the doctor about it, as I'm having extreme emotions more lately, blah).

- Nightwing is hottt. And Dick/Tim is totally a happy place. Yum.

- EEEEEEEEEEEEEeee. LOCKE AND KEY HARDCOVER JUST ARRIVED!!! ABOUT TIME!!!!!! Oh Joe Hill. You make me so happy. *reads AT LAST*

So, something reminded me of a particular Daily Show quote (I think it was something said at the even tonight, which I will blog about tomorrow) that I knew happened right after the election in 2004. I went back into my old LJ entries to find it and... yikes.

Guys, I am like, 500% happier than I was in 2004. At least.

Election issues aside, I was friends* with people who put... not good pressure on me. And said some not-nice things about me. On my own journal. I sort of let myself get bullied around. It wasn't pretty. There weren't very many positive places in my life, and unlike now, when my LJ is my happy place, I was kind of bombarded by the negative here (and wrote about it a LOT.). I think my only happy places were HP, TDS and adventures/phone calls with [info]_morning_glow (who was never one of the not-nice people in the entire tenure of our friendship, bee tee dubs). Other than that... I just spent a lot of time being sad and feeling worthless.

But really, man, things are like... a million times MORE AWESOME comparatively. And not just because I am friends with people who aren't loons. I mean, they are loons, but the good kind of loons who watch big gay space shows and actually care about politics. But I also like my job (mostly) and do cool stuff in my spare time and hang out with NONFANDOM PEOPLE (or at least do non-fandom things with fandom people) and bake things and drive around and like myself. I didn't like myself much back then.

Anyway. This entry really has no consequence, other than to say, WOW I WAS A SAD LOSER WHOSE FRIENDS** DUMPED HER IN 2004 AND NOW I AM NOT.

* Not all my friends were this way! I was friends with many of you back then, and if I am still friends with you, then you didn't fall into that camp for me. It was one particular group who I hung out with a lot IRL.

** Again, not all of them, just some. I LOVE YOU GUYS YOU ARE PRETTY COOL.

Writing Chat Time [Oct. 10th, 2008|09:56 pm]

Hello, all. It is time for WRITING CHAT THINGY. As I have taken to calling it. For those who are new around these parts, it's a group chat where we share prompts to write fifteen minute ficlets. If you haven't come before but want to try it out, don't be afraid to stop by!

The name of the AIM chatroom is writingchatthingy. If you don't know how to get into a chat, drop me a line at magical is art and I'll invite you in.

This post is going to be used to post responses to the prompts. Please post [prompt] Title (if applicable) - Fandom - Pairing as the subject of your comment, just so I can keep things straight.

It will work like this: I will post a prompt and set a timer and you will have fifteen minutes to write a ficlet in response. It can be fannish or original, I don't particularly care. At the end of the fifteen minutes, we will pause to talk about how awesome we all are and then start again from the beginning.

So. I'm going to post this and I hope to see some of you soon!

I feel : satisfied

Since I saw the thing had been posted on Perez's site, I was waiting for this. Nutty Madam, complete with the return of the green t-shirt. She watches the Twilight trailer and we are all thankful:

Seriously, my newest greatest wish is to go the UK when Emma goes to the theater and just sit in absolute awe. I almost want to bet that she gets thrown out of the theater before the opening sequence has even finished, but think that maybe she might be able to contain herself out of the need to see the whole thing, or that her brain will just explode and make my point totally moot.

Why did I insist on staying up last night on this amazing website, trying to find a video of Will Forte dancing to go along with it? And why is NBC such a douche about having content up? Like, I understand you taking material down off of Youtube. It doesn't belong to them. But, then you should put that stuff up yourself, either on Hulu or your own site. BECAUSE SOMETIMES PEOPLE JUST NEED TO SEE WILL FORTE DANCE!!!

[music |teevee - tim gunn's guide to style]

Hey, internet.

Today was a pretty shitastic day, but now I am eating a bowl of pomegranate seeds (and thanks for the help on that, guys. [info]saidlian_nataly concurred with the bowl of water method that so many of you pointed out to me. I'll have to try that next time.) and watching Tim Gunn's Guide to Style. I think I will have to re-write John Sheppard's Guide to Style (or, you know, start it) with Greta. Also, I think they nominate themselves this season? But I bet they'd make an exception if Teyla asked them to. No one can resist a new mom, especially a new mom who could kick your ass.

Anyway. As I was saying. Shitastic. My dad invaded my "me time" this morning to yell at me and I was early to work because I thought I was going to be late (long story) and I wasn't wearing socks and it was crazy and I was cranky. But I came home and took a nap and I have tomorrow off, so things are pretty cool.

Since I am feeling pretty mellow, here is that meme where you take a picture of yourself. THIS IS HOW MELLOW I AM.

Actually, I look kind of cranky, don't I? I swear I'm mellow. Anyway, this is me in pajamas. That shirt is just about ten years old, I think. Yes, it says "Rent" on it.

And here is my desktop:

ANYWAY. That's today. I am putting everything pre-nap behind me. Now I am going to write a little, post an [info]itsproductivity prompt, and drink like, a gallon of water.
