• Intangibility: Her true state is corporeal (unlike Kitty Pride’s whose true state is her intangible one) making it so in order to achieve invisibility or intangibility she must concentrate. Since her powers are severely untrained she finds it difficult to hold her intangible or invisible state for long and finds it even harder to hold both at one time. She can only hold form for as long as she can hold her breath.
• Invisibility: Like her intangible form, Selene must concentrate to achieve invisibility and can not hold her invisible form for long due to inexperience. She can only hold form for as long as she can hold her breath.
• Minor telepathy: Very weak telepathy, can only receive thoughts and images. Telepathy is always “turned on.” If she concentrates, Selene can focus on receiving the thoughts and images from a certain person.
Personality: Whether it is because of the years spent in no ones company but her own or for another reason, Selene is quiet and no more than politely friendly around those she does not know. The more comfortable Selene gets around someone, the more she opens up and lets her true self be revealed. Selene’s past has made it hard for her to trust other people but once her trust is gained a person has they will find that it is a trust that is not easily broken. Because of her quiet nature and because she fears being forced to return to the institution, Selene often does not speak up when she disagrees with someone’s actions and is often tight-lipped and secretive about things she should not be.
History: Mrs. Kavanagh died giving birth to Selene, leaving Selene and her two siblings in the care of their father who immediately withdrew into himself with the passing of his wife. Though her father was hardly ever present, Selene did not grow up not lacking in any of life’s refinements. Born into a family of old money, she had instructors in both dance and music and went to the finest schools money could buy. However, as sophisticated as this life was, Selene often found it to be lonely and was seen by those who cared for her as a “precocious child yet so fragile and distant, she always seems so sad.”
When Selene was thirteen, Nicholas (her brother, self-appointed protector, and only friend) left home leaving Selene with nothing but her coldly distant sister, Moira, for company. She withdrew farther into herself, spending most of her times by herself either wandering the ground of her family’s estate or tucked away in the library or her bedroom.
Selene was fifteen when her mutation first arose. The intangibility and invisibility occurred only rarely, usually in the middle of the night when the voices seemed to be at their worse, but the telepathy was a constant. Finally, unable to take, what he believed to be, Selene’s unstable mental health, Selene’s father had her admitted to a mental institution. When it was discovered, through gene and blood testing, that Selene was a mutant, Mr. Kavanagh, who is a strong supporter of anti-mutant acts, decided that she would remain in the institution until a better accommodation (one that could deal with an affliction such as being a mutant) could be found. Sometime during the beginning of her stay at the institution, Selene received visits from a certain orderly who forced himself upon her. The orderly’s unfriendly visits stopped suddenly when her telepathy picked up on some of his thoughts and she, frightened, she babbled what she heard aloud.
Additional information: Loves to dance and sing, often sings to quietly to herself which people usually mistake as her talking to herself. Selene also loves to read and is vastly interested in anything about mythology, and the supernatural. Her brother, Nicholas, is currently 22 and her sister, Moira, is currently 19.
