| | bored | ] | The holidays are finally here, and even though I've got 11 pieces of homework, among which 4 are projects, I'm really glad I finally have this one week to catch up on my sleep and enjoy the Nice Soft Bed in the comfort of home.
IR has been going quite well, I suppose? But I think what is most important in the project is the process of doing the "experiments" and all, basically the time spent in the lab. Personally, no matter what the result will be, I'm glad I'm enjoying myself doing the project. Though of course, a good result would be nice, so we'll be able to go for SSEF! Mr Murali's set a nice target for us, so I hope we can do it. =)
Teachers' Day yesterday was quite nice, seeing the reactions of teachers like Dr Yong and Mr Murali, when they got the presents from Nes and Cheryl. And Mr Ang sent a nice email which made my day. =)
The week ahead seems quite nice. I've got some stuff planned such that it's not too filled yet not too empty such that I'll get so bored I'll finish all the seasons of House and Suite Life I've got. xD
OH and, happy belated birthday, kor! |

Teachers' day was fun after I decided to leave the speech day rehearsal(: I was so glad to meet the henryparkers, and really thank God for letting me meet them right while they were walking back to PS because they told me they'd be at Cathay and I was without a phone so I wouldn't know!!! D: Must be insane to have survived without cash, NETS, ezlink card nor handphone for the whole day, haha, thanks to michael chee who saved the day for me, surprising eh!!! :D haha.
Life has been strange after the exams. It seems so surreal, I am still not used to not having to study and allowing myself to talk on msn, blog, read blogs...I took really long trying to clear the 100+ unread posts from google reader, and still have not finished.

I HATE SCHOOL. (going to school actually. i love my school just fine)
i hate it.
my motivation energy has run dry. completely dry. i really really really really love studying. but i have late work. late work seems to be my mantra now. it's disgusting. i'm disgusted at myself.
but discipline and what not has all disappeared into thin air. i need to lower my activation energy. i need enzymes. i need catalysts. oh boy. gosh.
GOSH!
._. can people stop trusting me so much._. i can't. but when i seek help, all people tell me is they don't believe i'll slack, that i'll come back and what not. fine, maybe i will. but IN TIME OR NOT that's the key. and it's difficult. it's very difficult to push yourself. i know, people will say but you used to push yourself and push people too. that's why. i'm like a battery you know. when the resistance is higher the power has to go up as well. urgh. shut up hern hern. stop it stop it stop it. but i seriously. hate. school. hate. myself. for. being. so. lazyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy i can't believe i'm going through this phase i can't believe i'm blogging like this. HORRID. |

| 328: that is is that that that that is not is not ...that |
[Aug. 30th, 2008|09:12 pm] |
From Wikipedia:
"That" can be used five times in a row, in a grammatically correct sentence:
He said that that 'that' that that man used was wrong.
Or six times:
He said that that 'that' that that 'that' modified was wrong.
Or seven times:
Did the editor know that, that that 'that' that that 'that' followed was redundant?
The pattern can be repeated indefinitely and retain its grammatical correctness:
Did you know that that 'that' that that 'that' that that 'that' that that 'that'...
Other patterns of grammatically correct multiple consecutive occurrences are also possible. For example:
That that is is that that that that is not is not. |

So apparently, Richard Dawkins was the brain that launched a thousand Internet memes. I'm reading The Selfish Gene right now and it's really cool!
I was just thinking that someone should put together an anthology called The Non-intimidating Anthology of Non-fiction or something. It would include bits of popular writing on science, history, geography, economics, art and philosophy, for readers who want refresher/introductory readings into things they never actually studied.
The anthology I'd compile would include excerpts from:
1. The Selfish Gene, by Richard Dawkins 2. A Short History of Nearly Everything, by Bill Bryson. 3. The Genius of Shakespeare, by Jonathan Bate 4. Zeno and the Tortoise, by Nicolas Fearn 5. Freakonomics, by Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner
Other things? (Including books on history and geography because I don't really know of any good popular writings on them.) I think there really does need to be more popular writing on subjects people don't read about much, even though in recent years there's been a lot more to bridge the gap between 'popular writing on popular subjects' and 'academic writing on academic subjects' in non-fiction (especially popular science). Bill Bryson in particular is very awesome (he writes books on literature! science! linguistics! travel!) but MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE, TO SAVE THE WORLD.
ETA Not popular history, but interesting all the same. |

[Aug. 30th, 2008|07:15 pm] |
My title, indeed.
This be (one of) the best barbecue I've been to. Not cos the food was fantastic (we didn't even have crabsticks! D: ) but cos of the company. It's been so long since the Spark Dota gang (you can say that) hung out together. It's times like these that you can sorta let down your inhibitions and um let loose the testosterone-charged male within you. :o
Speaking about lowered inhibitions, I think the two Caucasian girls we saw by the pool at Linus's condo had even lower ones. Hm, we were filing past in a horde when like one of us started hurrying us forward. I was wondering whats going on so I turned around and I SAW THIS CAUCASIAN GIRL WHO WAS MAKING OUT WITH THE SHOWERHEAD BY THE POOL. I was like WTF and No, I did not remain on the spot and continue staring. I looked away! (Was that a wise choice? :o The jury is still out.) Then the girls were like shouting "Hey! Look here!" blah but we just continued traipsing past.
I later learned that she flashed her um boobs while some of us were looking. :O Depraved horny drunk girls. >:( (A pity I wasn't looking then, eh?) Therefore, my eyes remain pure and I've seen no evil cept for that of softcore showerhead porn.
That aside, we photowhored muchly. But I'm too lazy to post it up. I always look damn unglam anyway. We also played LAN and I fucking love poolday now cos I managed to kick ass in some rounds by dashing in like a madman and shooting anyone in sight. Whoo! Oh yes, Wall.E was not bad la. But could have been better, the storyline was just abit absurd, if you ask me. How could humans just suddenly grow some balls by themselves after 700 years of overreliance on robots?
I wanna go watch Electrico at Baybeats but Xina the banana and Jet pangsehed me ): |

Teacher's Day celebrations yesterday, which was quite interesting - haha at the AEP people's crazy new Art teacher. Went back to NY after that, missed Mrs. Ho but caught Mr. Tan when he was about to leave for the emcee-ing job at the teachers' lunch. (Also, I don't really understand why they have to make the lunch compulsory for teachers since it's their day and they should be able to choose whether they want to go or not. Anyway.) Saw Mrs. Teo and Mr Lim too, and rarrr they got shiny new Macs (ashahsaglf!) which Mr. Lim couldn't stop flaunting to us. And they're going to frame and hang up the final piece of my coursework at some conference room. Oh my god. I can only get it back after six months, and when I do get it back I'll either try to repaint it or you know, burn it. So ugly. D:
After that, Rachel T, Kewei and I went for lunch at Cineleisure's Pastamania, and then Kyna told us she couldn't make it for the movie and Rachel left to get some much deserved sleep. So it was only Kewei and I again, and we went to watch Wall-E. Which was so disgustingly cute (in a good way) and ( spoilers! )
After the movie Kewei and I wandered around Kinokuniya again for lack of anywhere else to go, and hid in some Architecture corner to read the books we picked. Oh, and I finally bought a handphone pouch/wallet thing. Yay? Then we ate dinner at Mos Burger and went home, after which I slept for near to twelve hours and got up only just a few hours ago.
Now I must play some Pokemon in order to reward myself for all the shit I've been through the past two weeks and then start planning for my promos. (Yes, I know, it's been a long time coming and relatively very very late. >:)
...WHO WANTS MUGGING SESSIONS?

Star Wars Saga Repacked in Trilogy Sets on DVD.
You know what to get me for Christmas/my birthday.
...or not. These are, after all, the digitally remastered ones. As much as I think Hayden Christensen looks far better than Sebastian Shaw does, my fangirl loyalty cringes every time I recall blueghostAni!Hayden. ):
I do love the box cover designs. Very appropriate and fitting. Star Wars new and old united in a similar conceptual design.
...Yeah, I suppose this is my token 'Gwen still has other fandoms?! EGADS! :D' post. |

so it seems I'm slowly leaving people behind, or pushing them away, maybe one day I won't have anymore connections to the past; maybe soon, I never had many anchors in the first place (you don't matter anymore, she doesn't either, such an odd turn of events. does it make sense that if you two can't get along with each other, I can't get along with either of you, as well?)
not sad, not really, more worried about someone else, which is odd, isn't it. I don't remember much of either of you, I don't know if I want to, because you scare me in different ways and I'm sure in some twisted way there's an "and vice versa".
not saying that I don't know what I could have- or should have? done to "make it all better", make it so that we're all living lies and pretense and smiles that don't mean anything, even if they did before. not tired, either, strangely, not tired of life, even if there's a slight reluctance to move on to a tomorrow.
but scared of what I'll become, of being so unsure that I'll destroy my own dreams, that I'll never be who or what I wanted to be (whatever that is), scared that somewhere along the way I'll crumble into something, scared of pain and getting hurt (this is the paranoia that comes in after you watch too many murder shows), scared of things I can't run away from.
omg, emo D:
Now that bit's done, yesterday was sensei's teacher's day mini-celebration! <3 We had a cake for her, and a box (bought from Art Friend, then painted purple and had the letters O N O glued on it, then filled with shredded paper, tiny paper stars and messages), hope she liked it! Mel and Shion and I didn't stay, *cough*, we went to watch Inugami instead and it was pretty good story-wise, except errrr, it seemed like such a low-budget filme. The camera was really shaky, and the blood looked really fake! Anyway, it was a pretty gruesome movie (NC-16!) and quite tragic as well. Kindaichi is cool though 8D He's such a hobo, as Melo says. I remember watching this Kindaichi thing a really long time ago, when I was a kid, about butterflies and this little girl, and I remember liking it a lot. Wonder if I can find it online somewhere. And I want to watch Studio Ghibli stuff too! Neko no Ongaeshi, Majou no Takyuubin, Tonari no Totoro, Hotaru no Haka, Howl no Ugoku Shirou, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi 8D |

there's going to be tchoukball for GEMS later! yeah baby!
i got woken up by the rain i think. my feet feel like they wanna drop off at the ankles brrr cold sia ACHE ACHE. but i'm super happy i finally went running after slacking resting for so long! except that running in slight-drizzle feels really horrible because sweat does not evaporate at all. :S i negated the running though by going to island creamery with JOCELYN ARIEL AND BETHANY :DDDD awesomexz and chionged down quite a bit of icecream. oh well i had loads of fun seeing you GUYS again heehee! ((:
didn't get to go back to ny though. mr tan(s)!!! where is mr khong i still miss him like anything hahaha. and i didn't get to kiss shirlene and cao ): at least there's always another school day to walk back to see them hahaha. sure hope y'all had a nice 410 gathering of sorts.
other than that teacher's day was rather O: mainly because of the half naked guy and his sexy blue undies ?! shucks i shouldn't have sat in front -> good view. i hope he gets to go for therapy one day. and only 2 people in a10 danced during mass dance awww. haha i think i enjoyed giving the presents more than the teachers did receiving them cos we thought up of all sorts of crap heehee.
today is the last day of the seventh month i think. thank God lah, no more walking through blizzards of ash and choking smoke and whatnot. not to mock other's religions but if i were a ghost from some layer of hell and get to go back up to Earth for a holiday, i wouldn't wanna fly through dirty polluted air man. heehee. then again i wouldn't know what ghosts think huh.
who's going to study/be in in hc next week? comment please! |

| teachers' day. |
[Aug. 29th, 2008|10:42 pm] |
| [ | Current Mood |
| | weird | ] | i think this was the first teachers' day in vj i felt sincere in celebrating and that says a lot about how much my school life has changed. kinda weird that in jc, where (almost) everybody thinks their teachers are a lot more distant, i'm moving in the opposite direction.
basically i went around, studying how the student-teacher dynamics in every class are vastly different, and snapping photos with significant people.
ms goh didn't turn up...but i learnt later from some teachers that she's in the staff welfare committee and was thus heavily involved in the planning for the food trail and dinner, so perhaps she was worked too hard. ah wells.
the concert segment was rather funny. a different kind of funny from the past years, but funny enough. :)
wall-e with regina, sheena and raina later. was great! <3 wall-e.
okay a couple of pictures. the rest can be found on Facebook.

looks like a classmate of mine? heh, that's ms teo looking funky in uniform.

who else did you think i'd celebrate teachers' day for? haha.
happy teachers' day, teachers! if anyone of you is reading this. and if you are, please tell me. |
