| Bio: | "Between the idea And the reality Between the motion And the act Falls the Shadow." -T.S. Eliot- ![]() Name: Gavin Jugson Age: 34 Date of Birth: September 15, 1963 Schooling: Graduate of Durmstrang Family: Married to Philomel Jugson. Father of Adrian Jugson. Familiar: Russian Blue cat named Mephistopheles. Appearance:Overall, rigid and imposing. Eerie in the eyes of many. Looks somewhat older than he is, though not horribly or unattractively so. Skin is somewhat more pallid after Azkaban, though it has generally been lighter by virtue of his aversion to the outdoors. He stands at six foot two, with a decently strong, trim build. Hair is black, around medium length. Eyes are greenish-brown. His posture is excellent, almost unnervingly straight. He walks somewhat stiffly, but without calling any attention to his gait. Fingers are long, and his hands are somewhat rough. Also, on a not-so-physical note, he speaks with a German accent, as he spent most of his time at Durmstrang speaking German. History: Gavin was born as the only child to purebloods Serenus and Eleanor Jugson. Parents of the societal type, Serenus always himself busy between working and dinner partiers, while Eleanor busied herself with setting up such parties and attending her husband‘s wishes, as well as keeping a fair eye on Gavin. The family had a fair amount of money, and Serenus didn’t mind doing a bit of work to keep revenue flowing. Gavin himself did not receive a whole lot of attention, but was certainly not neglected. He generally took more to his mother, though as he grew older tried to change this and managed to push any desires to do so aside. Born in England, he moved with his parents to Germany when he was eight, nearly nine. As they were still in Germany when he came of age to begin attending school, he was sent without second thoughts to Durmstrang. The family returned to England just before he began his fourth year in Durmstrang, Because his parents could afford to, they continued to ship Gavin off to Durmstrang, which certainly did not displease him. Through said life of shifting about, Gavin learned both English and German at an early age (as he progressed, he would study and more or less master Russian, Polish, Czech, and Latin). Gavin excelled in academia, pushing himself in all subjects, whether he knew them easily or not. Kept mostly to himself. After graduating, he returned to England for several years, living in the luxurious manor his parents had commissioned for the family. He moved out upon marrying Philomel Heidrich (of German pureblood descent), in 1984. Philomel generally appears to be a more or less typically spineless Death Eater-wife. She has proven to play her own role well enough, however, and tends to honestly support Gavin. She tends not to give things much thought of her own, and will readily do what Gavin asks. The marriage was an arranged one that went over very easily. In November of 1986, they produced a son, Adrian. He would be their only child. Gavin pays some mind to the child, though he shows little outward affection toward him. In 1988, Gavin was taken on at Durmstrang as professor of their history of magic classes. He performed well, expected much of his students, and kept himself apart from them, as well as (often) the majority of the staff. He was first drawn toward the circle of Death Eaters by way of stray words caught regarding Igor Karkaroff early in his teaching career; Gavin didn’t pose any questions, but filed the information for further use. During a summer in England, early-’95, Gavin was drawn into a chance meeting with a death eater of little stature. After Voldemort had begun to recall his numbers, Gavin was called upon to join, having shown interest in the cause. He did join with the death eaters in the fall of 1995, and has since proven himself a worthy follower. He turned down his teaching position for the year of ‘95/’96 in order to spend whatever time in England would be necessary. Gavin did fight in the battle at the Department of Mysteries and was sent to Azkaban with several others. Jail was a whole lot of not-fun for Gavin, who has edged toward a loss of control over himself; breaking out of jail should be helpful, indeed. Personality: Gavin is something of an intellectual, a philosopher with an anarchist’s desires and a pragmatist’s sense of reason. Thus, he does not aim pointedly at entire fulfillment of his goals, seeking instead what can be certainly obtained and building piece by piece to fulfill his wishes. More specifically, he sees that the world has fallen into chaos, that something isn’t right, and the best way to fix this seems to be to destroy everything and begin anew. That being rather an unrealistic goal, he has decided to settle for the next best thing; setting up a certain class of rulers that could bring a necessary and well-placed order. He is a cold man; what little affection he shows is indeed of value, but it doesn’t come up often. His facial expressions are not frozen, though in speaking officially he tends to present a smooth face. However, he remains as stoic as he can. Such has become his habit. Any gross indecency in others irritates or may even vaguely embarrass him, and he has no time for “childish games.” Very much interested in the way that things were, Gavin has almost always held history as a subject of grave importance. Certainly, there have been very silly events in the past. There was order, however (order owing, he points out, to the purebloods), and order of a desirable sort. The intricacies of events and the like interest him greatly. He is pretty much void of impulse, so long as he is more or less in his accustomed frame of mind. He acts rationally, thinking through potential circumstances to whatever extent he may. He reasons well, at least according to the standards he has lived under. This led him to a marked inability to turn off his brain, as it were, and a fairly high level of paranoia. While the constant thought activity is fine in some ways--he prefers thinking (and listening) to speaking, anyway--it can be something of a distraction. He has managed to muffle the line of thoughts, though he cannot mute it entirely. Gavin is obsessively neat; anything that looks unclean in the least worries him, puts him on his guard. He tries to act natural when dealing with seemingly dirty objects or individuals, but becomes obviously more awkward, stiffening and trying to avoid contact with the dirt. Thankfully for him, his wife has learned of this, and makes certain that the house is cleaned well for him; if a maid misses something, his wife cleans it herself. Life runs more smoothly when all is clean. While this stands oddly in contrast to his hopes of utter destruction and chaos, he justifies it; if he cannot turn the current, ridiculous chaos into anarchy, he may best try to order his own piece of it. In fact, Gavin is rather obsessive in general. He plans meticulously, retains marker memories as long as he needs to, looks into every last bit of a matter, and makes certain that he has gone over and over any set plan. He prefers to have all things set; plans are a definite source of good, and the outdoors are generally bad; dirt lurks everywhere, and all. His obsessive nature shows itself in many other quirks of his. Compulsive cleanliness can be seen in his desire to purify bloodlines. And if we can’t have total erasure, why not? This may be a step in the right direction. The purebloods are, for Gavin, the rightly-chosen ruling class. They have the natural power and thus the natural birthrights. All others have no claim to life. Also going along with the cleanliness, Gavin avoids actual bloodshed if possible. In wounding another, he uses simple but powerful spells, doing the dirty work as quickly and cleanly as he can. He fights with dedication, but without relish (unless by some extreme occasion he is aggravated beyond all reason) and wishes only to end the engagement. Gavin is fairly secure with himself. He knows that he can accomplish quite a lot, is well aware of his own abilities. He doesn’t speak of them unless he needs to, however. In keeping quite, he is neither truly modest or egotistical. However, he is not certain or trusting of most others. Philomel receives some trust, as she holds a well-developed ability to listen and keep quiet; in fact, she speaks very little unless necessity or a social function dictates that she must. Loyalty level is high. Gavin is dedicated both to the cause and to the Death Eaters themselves, as he sees Voldemort, his followers, and their cause as the only way to reach a certain end of the current mess. He feels disgust for any who work against the cause, and wishes only to see the war through and reach a time of balance. He is also highly dependable, accomplishing tasks as well as is possible once he sets himself to do so. He displays strong dedication to causes and the ideas behind them; indeed, he makes certain that he has formed an understanding of a cause before he supports it fully. Because of this, he more or less cannot be shaken from an idea. He maintains order well, and will thus remember details well. He acts efficiently, choosing the most effective and least troublesome path. His mind works logically to find such solutions quickly, and he therefore reacts well in most situations. Having such a strict sense of order brings its troubles; Gavin can become stuck on the details at times. Also, he becomes uneasy when plans are shifted in small ways; intricate details gone awry seem much larger to him. His focus on details may cause him to miss a chance at jumping on a new and better turn of events. He may well overlook something of the drive found from emotions, as he fixates on the logical side of a matter. ![]() | |||||
