BioScimit has been with T.H.E.Y. for several years, and is part of a division that she doesn't know no longer exists. The reason for this is that ever since T.H.E.Y. had its system hacked into by pirates, she's been stranded on various worlds, and her handheld was damaged when she was set upon by several pirates intent on eliminating the last of her division. They're all dead, but Scimit has no way of contacting T.H.E.Y. again, and has therefore been presumed dead.
