Dingo - Sun and Fluid

11:41 am - Sun and Fluid
Friday was the Black Sun fest in New Haven. We leave Baltimore at 9 and get there close to 5. For the third time in a row I slept all the way through the NJ turnpike. It really makes the trip more pleasant.
Sound check went pretty well, being the opening band we are squeezed onto the stage around all the other bands gear. It looks like we are playing in the basement of a second hand music store. I notice the battery light for the keytar was blinking. Usually I can go a long time before changing the batteries and I made sure that I changed them before we left for Germany. I forgot that for those two weeks I was playing most every day. I could measure our tour in amperage and calories but I won't.
Murphy and his Law had us reboot the laptop with the backing tracks just as we get on stage. To kill time I try and play Toccata and Fugue, I miss a chord in the Toccata and I screwed up in the first part of the Fugue so I give up. I taught it to my self by ear (in the wrong key) back on my casio keyboard. I don't know all of the Fugue but I know enough of it that I should be able to apply it to the rest of the song. I promise that next time we have technical difficulties I will rock the Fugue for you all.
The rest of the set was one of the best ever. The club was split so that 75% of the stage was on the side of the 21+ barrier so the non drinkers were really off to the side. I have a really long cable so I could get over there to play occasionally but there were no monitors over there so it was hard to hear when I did that.
Between sets I got to hang out with
dj_rabid_angel, the circus act for the next day and of course all the bands. What a great party! The bands are all ones that I wanted to see live and all of them could not be nicer.
After a short rest in the hotel I hop on a train back home. If it wasn't so expensive the train is the best way for regional travel. The seats are comfy and roomy, it's fast and the scenery is nice.
You may ask what brings me home early from the premier US Goth Industrial fest? Fluid Movement of course! Fluid Movement is a group that do productions where the only limitations are that they are less than an hour and under $10 to get in. The cast is who ever wants to shopw up to all the practices and work their butt off. So within those boundaries they produce the most fantastical shows. Frankenstine on rollerskates, GoGo pirate show (on the Constellation), 1001 Freudian Nights (Freud and bellydancing). Last year the production was the telling of the Great 1904 fire of Baltimore as told through Flamenco and some fire spinning. The Saturday show I put out my wicks, broke down my staff, hopped in a car to DC and ran in to hop up on stage at chiarOscuro to play our CD release party. good times! Anyway I came back because Kazoogrrl is guest directing part of this years performance of Postcards from the Edge, a water ballet.
The show is wonderful! It's Dazzling and I laughed my self silly at both performances last night. I am taking my mom to see it tonight if the rain stops. Not that I'm biased but I think the National Parks segment is the best for all of it's manic energy, the expressiveness of the players and that the individual of each character shines through and provides a balance in the scene.
no worries. I got a direct line to God.
two shows, 5 and 7
Thanks a lot for coming up. I can't wait to see you again in September...unless you and the missus happen to be travelling through earlier than that, of course. ;-]
What you need for the Toccata and Fugue are some wax-dripping candalabras.
