I was waffling at work about going, but then after noticing that I hadn't done anything in an hour I decided to take off early and catch a ride to the lightrail.
When I got there It was just Brian (the organizer and I just found out renowned sax player) and one other person. Others came trickling in. After running down the street to make sure that no one got waylaid by the Fred Phelps commotion by the school of art we got together and started. The choir was about a dozen of us and almost as many dedicated spectators. There was a family with some brightly colored my first tape players.
The piece is so amazing sounding. Every boombox has a different color of sound. Tape players hiss. The big speakers are strong sounding but the little single speaker tape recorders have so many tonal qualities ranging from clarity to percussive distortion. With so many sources playing at once with the delays and reflections and muffling when people turn or step in front of the speaker the music seems to be coming from in your head and radiating out to everyone. Some parts are drones and some parts are cacophony of bells (in a key of course) Parts of the song remind me of a Trinity Project song (named "The priest lied") during our cram/jam sessions getting a live set together a month before our first show. We decided to try our hand at something in C major, instead of or usual minor palette.
Baltimore's reaction to the caroling: Notice the sound, identify that they are swarmed by a group of people with boomboxes (and beatific idiot grins) and then smile and keep going.
My ears are refreshed. I happily listened to traffic and the sounds of of the lightrail on the way home. My dinner was extra tasty and the coffee and apple pie icecream was the best ever.
Tomorrow night: Opening for New Model Army! I hope to see some of you there.

There is no heat in my house.
Space heaters are good.
that is your haiku for the day. I am wearing 47 hoodies to the show tomorrow if it doesn't warm up. Currently I do not own 47 hoodies, but I will go get them if I have to. And 82 pairs of socks.
But no pants.
I'm going to have lay on the floor and think about 120Minutes for a while. Wow. Really? Gee.
