It's a new year, and with a new year comes... well, not much different from the old one. I spent a good chunk of the last 3 weeks helping get the new features of our product out the door. We pushed it out at 6:30 yesterday morning, and it's really been about as much trouble as expected since then. Still pretty busy, but nothing too scary. My boss noticed how much work I put into it, which is good. I gave one of our other developers a piece of my mind (he was being a complete ass...), which is not so good.
Coming in at 6:30 in the morning is something that should not be done. Getting to bed at 2 the night before doesn't go very well with that, but I always go to bed around 2 (or occasionally several hours later...), so going to bed significantly earlier won't provide any real rest anyway. The day before that I couldn't sleep, so I got about 4 hours then too. Less than 8 hours of sleep in 3 days kindof hurts for me. Like, literally, face feels kindof bruised, lower back is stiff, hurts.
When I wasn't doing that, I spent some more time looking at TurboSPARC. At this point, I think I actually have an idea of how to fix it. Also, the documentation for the CPU is full of lies, I think.
We got bonuses (for last quarter, I think?), which is nice, but not all that nice. After taxes they looked kind of small.
Speaking of last quarter, or actually the first month of this one, which was December, I got a lot of really cool gifts for Christmas for which I'm sure I haven't come even remotely close to properly thanking people. To those that read this, you're really great people, and I do appreciate the gifts tremendously. One other notable thing that happened in December is that I saw some people in the medical profession0 about things that have been bothering me for quite some time, and then on their recommendation, started taking medication for ADHD1. I've been medicated for 3 weeks now; it takes some getting used to, but it's working out well so far.
Tonight is our 3rd soccer match of the season. The first was a complete mess. There were only 6 of us playing, so there were no substitutes, and nobody had gotten any real exercise over the Christmas holiday. We got our asses kicked, but we had fun. Last week, we got our asses kicked again. I played a really good game (or so I'm told), but unfortunately that doesn't directly translate to actually winning, or even coming close. In each of those two games, our team scored once. The first was a penalty kick, which was a pass to me, then me passing to another person who was by the goal. The second was rough, but after several rebounds me and a teammate both had our foot on the ball, and were about 3 feet from being in the goal by that point, with the keeper still adjusting from the last shot. Dunno if that's an assist or a point for me, but still, it was good. Tonight, I expect, will be much like those games. It's fun though, even if we are getting our butts handed to us.
0: One FNP, one psychologist. No doctors.
1: They call it "Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder" these days, no matter which combinations of the symptoms you show. If you don't show enough enough of the symptoms of hyperactivity, they add "Predominantly Inattentive Type"; not enough for the inattentive and they add "Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type". But it's just one disorder now. They didn't giver me any modifiers for the name.
