This past week was mostly spent at the science library.
the routine went like this:
breakfast at college - cycle to science library - lunch at back at college or broadway - back to science library - dinner in college - back to science library till it closes at 11pm.

there was one night, wednesday i think, where i could not take it anymore, so i didn't head back after dinner. i must also add that i don't spend my entire time studying. i drift in and out of the world wide web, which i quite bad really. quite behind on my study schedule, but i'll pull through and catch up this weekend (ie now!) Also, because of this exam period, i missed home quite a bit. emailed my favourite girls and got very prompt replies (: i'm glad.

earlier tonight, rae and i got back from science library. we met debdris outside the bike shed and chatted for a bit. suddenly rae decide to lay on the grass. i did the same. the sky was partly cloudy but some stars peeked through, i liked that moment. i felt at peace with everything that was going on. i should do that more often.

okay, done with my thought process. goodnight world.

Surfing!

During Easter, I completed one of the things on my to-do list of 2010.
Learn to surf. It was fun and tiring at the same time, and now i'm a lot tanner than i had used to be!

So this is the surf crew. Gen, Jasmine, Rae, Marie, Ai, me and Doug.
We took our lessons together for all 5 days (except for doug who hasn't got his level 1 safe surf cert!)
Ai's from Japan and she's here for a short holiday/ doing a homestay/ baby sitting kids at the same time.

Surfing's definitely tiring! Our surf class was from 10am - 12pm and it was mad on the first day. I was gulping down large amounts of sea water due to my inability to anticipating waves. So while everyone was gracefully mounting themselves on their boards, I was probably dragged out by mine.

Second day was better, the waves were a lot calmer, a lot easier for learners like me. I didn't have to fight the waves to get a distance out and i managed to catch a couple of good waves and attempted to stand a few times.

Third day was when some of us changed to a smaller board. It was harder to balance and I was initially struggling with this new board. Nonetheless, we managed to catch some good waves and the weather was beautiful! Seeing the waves crashing with each other, was awesome really.

The weather and waves were perfect on the fourth day! there was a good amount of big and small waves, and it was consistent, we didn't have to wait ages for one.

Last day of surfing was where i tried a smaller board, where Rae lost her contacts and where i got a cut on my toe! Also, we had lunch afterwards at Scarborough and then headed home, tired but happy.

with our instructors. Harry, on the left is only 15 and that's Simon right in front.
"lets lay in front like mermaids!"

so yes, now i think i can kinda surf :D
this experience was lovely and i'm glad i gave it a shot!

So anyway, yesterday, we had possibly the greatest storm in Perth, ever. It was raining hailstones the size of golf balls and i was in the comfort of my room when all of that happened.

My initial reaction was like OHMYWORD, this is majorly awesome. it was quite a sight.
gathered with my dear blockmates along the stairwell, in awe of the (eerily) beautiful sight.
then Doug reminded me about my car, being pounded by these hail but i was all like, nah it should be fine. He even suggested going out to disaster zone to get it covered, but i didn't have a cover so i SUPPOSED it'll be fine?

when it finally stopped 10 minutes later, Marie and I ventured out to the back quad, all happy and excited about the massive amounts of ice-balls. playing in the hail was fun but cold at the same time. but only when i started seeing sad and angry faces of people coming from the car park that i figured, maybe i should go check out my car.

and this is what i saw!

well, i figured, the damage is not THAT bad right, a cracked windscreen and a smashed window. Nothing my insurance wouldn't cover?
Was pretty chill about it, and the hailstone pock marks on the body of my car, it adds character!
But just to be safe, Primero and I drove our cars to Gary's to park under their sheltered car porch.

So this morning, I got slightly more anxious about my car. Got Fabius to accompany me to my uncle's and well, everything gone downhill from there.

People were laughing at the sorry state of my car when i stopped along the streets. The feeling of sadness started sinking in.
and when my cousin saw my car, he laughed, was amazed but how badly it was damaged and honestly told me that it's a write off.

Well, what exactly is a Write off.
From what i gathered, i think it means to claim the full amount (less excess) from the insurance company, scrape the car and use the money to possibly buy a new car.
Yes, scrape my Honda ):

I just washed my dear car last week. My car can mount kerbs. My car keeps me safe. It makes me feel safe on the roads. My car has so much life left in it, and i'm gonna scrape it?
Sad but true.

I called the insurance company earlier today and they'll get an accessor to check out my car. It's in a bad shape now, hopefully in the insides of my uncle's workshop.

It struck me when my cousin told me that this was (possibly) gonna be the last i'll see my car and asked me to cleared it out.

And this is the first photo i took with my car. Meet Pocky.

something to look forward to!

So Daddy said yes to taking Surf Class!
He also said that (if possible) I have to get insurance just in case. I could totally hear the apprehension in his voice.

So this means, instead of heading to Melbourne for Easter (can't afford that in terms of time for i've heaps of assignments due the following week) Rachel, Marie, Doug and I will head to Scarborough beach for introductory surfing class! I just want to try surfing, it'll be an added bonus if I get a good hang of it. This would mean one thing off my to-do list for 2010.

:D am thankful to be in J block this year.

On another note, replies for RMHC so far have been dismal. 5 out of 17. That's less than a third.

so this was how i spent my summer!

So, my summer started when my parents came to Perth after my exams. I wasn't exactly very excited that they were coming cause
a. i've spent a good 4 months in Perth by then and all i wanted to do was go home asap!
b. we took another roadtrip to Kalbarri when i have just done so during my September break. (and the ride to Kalbarri is a long long 6 hours drive!)

but the trip was not as bad as i thought it would have been! it was during that trip that I started watching Boys over Flowers (GuJunPyo<3) and had loads of fun with my dear brother and sister. It was fun taking them shopping at Target and Jayjays.

Then when i came back, I surprised Sam (well, kinda) with a day spa/ massage thing and we had dinner with his parents.

After which I headed to Macau for my daddy's company trip. It was okay. i just went to Macau last year, so we covered most of the tourist attractions. Did the usual walking around, eating good food and breathing in bad air! Highlight of my trip was to be at the egg tart stall that shot a bit of Boys over Flowers.

That night itself, i headed to Japan with Sam and my sister with my cousins, auntys and uncles. So glad Sam came along on this trip! I could tell he really enjoyed himself snowboarding etc! Also, while driving, our car swerved into this huge snow ditch and we had to call the tow trucks and all. Also because of that, the kind Japanese policemen came to direct traffic and help us out a bit.

Christmas was spent at Rene's and Kuops. Headed to pokie's for a short christmas meetup/teabreak thingy (actually, next time we should have gift exchange! that would be fun!) Skyped with Mel in her entirely sleepy self. Haha. Christmas dinner was a Kuops, and the turkey was so so good!

New Years Eve was spent at Rene's, counting down, playing Balderdash (sp?), sparklers, Pistol and lightsticks. <3 the girlies.

13 days after New Years, I headed to Beijing. Prior to my departure, there were newspaper reports of the bad weather conditions in China, really heavy snowfall etc. I was scared on my flight there, mostly afraid of turbulence. I managed to safely arrive at Beijing, and was picked up by Celeste and Charlotte. I really enjoyed this trip to China. Beijing is really a wonderful city, though China is perceived to be very dirty, but Beijing is clean. Sure you'll have those people who spit and all, but the generally cleanliness is there. We ate cheap food & shopped cheap goods. And Celeste's housemates were so nice to have us!

I climbed the Great Wall. Trying to get there was a mission in its own terms as the bad weather had terminated the buses that head out there, and we were haggling with all this ba wang che at the bus terminal. In the end, we gave up, and went shopping (!!!) and decided to book Celeste's company driver the next day to take us there. We went to the MuTianYu Section. When we headed there the next day (wearing an insane amt of layers! super kiasu & scared of cold), the weather was wonderful for the climb. We chose to walk the steps up, as opposed to taking the cable cars, which allowed us to work up enough of a sweat to realise that we have too much clothes on. A short break to remove our thicker layers (other than Cel who wore her super warm Har Er Bing Thermal) and continued our hike. The view was so beautiful. Of snowcapped mountains and more sections of the great wall! We walked along the wall, and took plenty of photos "Eh, i must touch the Great Wall in my photo"- yes, it's this kinda of silly randomness. The section we went was also, rather empty, which allowed us to take in the beauty of the Great Wall rather than hustle with other tourists on more popular sections. And instead of walking down, we took a luge ride down!

Dinner at Da Dong was also another highlight of the trip. the duck was so good! So were the scallops. and all the few stuff that came with the meal. It was reasonably priced by Singapore standards, but a luxury to the Chinese living there. Da Dong was definitely better than QuanJuDe. The latter is overhyped, duck was so fat ("the huang tai hou loved to eat this with sugar") and there was no free stuff (like fruit platters and desserts) and it cost the same as DaDong.

So now, i'm left with another 17 days in Singapore before heading back to Perth. Will be slightly sad to return (especially without PeiHanKo!) but as usual ( I always say this), i will work hard next sem and look forward to my Winter Break back in Sg.

because today was wonderful.

i managed to pack most of my wardrobe and room today! so now, i can see most of my table!

met amelia for a bit while waiting to pick sam up earlier today, which resulted in meeting natalie, my classmates from primary 5. she still looks the same! and live in the same area! a bit of heart to heart with ame before heading to rifle range to get sam!

we then decide to have casaurina prata on a whim and i managed to get my durian biscuit from biscuit king. headed back to sam's where he showered and changed and we went to amk for our movie. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus! I loved the cinematography, the colours, lily cole and how everything was so dreamy and unreal! would have preferred a different ending though! like a reunion of some sorts.

i really enjoyed (most of) today! the meeting ups > cleaning ups!

The frenzied part of my papers are over now!
Well, they weren't easy for sure. And i really need to stop being so slack-ish.
If i had followed through my units, as i had PROMISED myself last sem, i probably wouldn't have such a tough time AGAIN this sem.

Financial Planning is last, and no surprise here, i'm slacking off a bit alr! 50 mcqs in two hours!
but i had better get a good grade for FP to compensate the rest of my grades.

11 days back to Singapore!

Saturday mornings breakfast

I woke up early today (at 7am!) to have breakfast at Sayers.
It's this quaint little cafe at Leederville which fall right straight into the casual, laidback atmosphere at Perth.

Had the potato rosti with poached eggs, which is listed as one of the Top 30 WA dishes to try!

The serving was not atypical aussie-sized huge- just a small serving of rosti, several slices of bacon, two poached eggs on a heap of withered spinach, topped with more rocket leaves. But it was just enough, at least it was for me!

I liked how the rosti was layered with carmelised onions. A hint of sweetness amidst the savoury potato rosti!
Very satisfying!
