Going underground
Friends only for the time being. Tired of my ummm "mystery readers" and all. Get an LJ, add me and all if you're that interested. My life's not THAT cool though :) | | Sunday, March 4th, 2012 | | 2:47 am |
The Billy ethnic food tally
Because I'm not ready to sleep, and because I want to keep track of it, a list of nationalities' whose food I've tried in restaurants. Hopefully posting this will motivate me to expand the list too. Me and a few hundred of my closest beer-drenched friends
If you go one row above the top of the flag, to the left side, you'll see a guy with a big goofy red, white, and blue hat. Directly to the right, face partially obscured by said goofy hat, with a fist in the air by his face....well, that would be me. As you can see by the green (Mexico) jerseys behind and to the right, we didn't even fill up a section. | | Monday, April 2nd, 2007 | | 11:48 pm |

Maybe I'll never be a judge on Iron Chef
This weekend's moral from Seattle: squid ink might be a cool ingredient on the old version of Iron Chef, and ordering squid ink risotto might just be cool, but squid ink does not really agree with my stomach. And makes everything pitch black. As in...everything. Not a major issue, and I'm liking it here. Fun vacation. More details when I get back. | | Tuesday, December 12th, 2006 | | 8:44 pm |
SF
I love San Francisco. That is all. (More when I get back; 2 days until Seattle...time flying). | | Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 | | 12:17 am |
Hmmm...it's been about a year, eh? What a year...
It's been around a year since I finally decided to end what had become an increasingly negative relationship (was sometime in Sept. or Oct.). And now I'm looking back on the year since. In that time I've: * Completed a half marathon, along with about a dozen shorter races. * Gone skydiving. * Gone luging. * Seen NIN, Korn, BB King, Live, Collective Soul, and They Might Be Giants in concert. * Seen Wicked, along with various smaller productions and a show at Second City. * Visited Louisville, Minneapolis/St. Paul, NYC, Baltimore, and the Amish Country, along with making plans to go to San Francisco and Seattle before the New Year. * Started taking classes at Northwestern to advance my career. * Advanced my career. * Tried Ecuadorean, Peruvian, Filipino, Hungarian, Czech/Bohemian, Nigerian, Ethiopian, Guatemalan, and Afghan restaurants, among others. * Been to 5 baseball games and the MLS (soccer) All-Star Game. * Become somewhat skilled at Whirlyball. * Ditto for poker. * Moved to a nicer, quieter, bigger apartment. * Gotten in better shape, due to running. * Joined Mensa * And much more. It's certainly been a wonderful and eventful year or so. And it's an understatement to say that I'm in a much better place in life than I was a year ago. Hopefully the next year will be even better. | | Sunday, September 24th, 2006 | | 2:25 am |
Corn and cheese ice cream?
It's been too long since I've made a public post. I think I'll make a more "how's my life" post in a day or two, but anyway. Went to my beloved Asian grocery today and got my usual array of odd foods. BBQ pork buns and mochi ice cream (strawberry and red bean), and Pocky, and some other stuff. My odd purchase of the day was "cooked salted duck eggs". The counter guy said it's salty and is good with rice or porridge. I tried one plain, just to try it. It's a hardboiled egg and the yolk's orange. And yeah, VERY salty. Kinda good though. Maybe will make some rice and slice up salted egg on it. I love trying new foods. They had "corn and cheese ice cream", which is apparently Filipino. They only had half-gallons, and I didn't wish to spend $10 for something I just wanted to taste. But I might anyway. Didn't get it this time. Napped some and will sleep shortly. Getting up early to run a 5k (hopefully), then watch a little football while playing poker, and then take the walking tour with Second City comedians. A very nice mix of things, just how I like it. Also need to start researching airfares for the likely trip to San Francisco. The more I think about it, the more that's where I'd like to go. My life's really good right now, overall. Always thinks to improve, but the variety of things I have going on and things to look forward to is so nice. Class starting up on Monday will be nice too, although not sure how I'l deal with 3 hours of class coming straight from work. But I welcome it. As I welcome most mornings nowadays. It's a nice way to be. |
